The only way I see it happening would be if he told Michigan that if the IU job comes open and they call me, I’m going to take it. I doubt very seriously that happened. Michigan is a good job, I think when we kept Woody, May interpreted that as we were not that interested in him because last year he was ready to move!

Herotime Posted February 8, 2025 Posted February 8, 2025 If we have Stevens locked up, how long do you think that fact can be kept under wraps? What would be the little signs here and in Boston that something’s up? kottke and IUHAHN81 2

BleedCubbieBlue Posted February 8, 2025 Posted February 8, 2025 I am not trying to start a war here but I would like to know what it would take for everyone who doesn’t want Beard to change their mind (I am also in this camp)? Would a Ray Rice type of mea culpa do it or is he persona non grata no matter what? Mods can delete this if they think it is inappropriate. It is just something I have been thinking through and I wanted to solicit the RESPECTFUL opinions of others.

I know my wife would never watch IUBB if he were to take the reins…if we had a daughter I wouldn’t feel right cheering for him. I will always love and support IU, and he’s a proven winner..but in my eyes what he did is FAR worse than any recruiting violation, and that keeps us from hiring those coaches. I imagine this will be our last choice when we’ve exhausted all other(high level) options Edited February 8, 2025 by HoosierPapi4 Pudman, Hoosier Roots, OKHOOSIER and 2 others 5

Indiana continues to fight doing the obvious and that has led us down the wrong paths over and over again. You don’t always have to outthink the room. When Pitino, Calipari, Stevens etc wanted to come here ages ago we should have moved but we didn’t. When May, Pearl etc wanted to come here we should have jumped and we didn’t. When Beard and Few want to come here we should jump but we won’t. Stevens hasn’t coached in college since recruits were in pre-school. As soon as his core left butler his winning tapered off and he bolted. He won early in the nba and then winnning tapered off and he bolted. He has used us as a bargaining chip now each time his contract is in doubt. Maybe he comes and is wildly successful but I have my doubts on both coming and being wildly successful, meanwhile watching coaches like Pearl, Few Beard compete for national championships elsewhere. Lot of truth here, imo. Brad Stevens isn’t a grinder. I don’t think he loves being a coach. You don’t walk away in your mid-40s if you do. It’s just a job for him. There’s nothing wrong with that, but I don’t think it’s the personality we need. A guy like Chris Beard would crawl over glass from Mississippi to Bloomington to get the job. Brad Stevens has to be begged and pleaded with, and then he spurns us. If he really wanted the job he would’ve taken it the last time. cybergates, RoadRage, thebigweave and 3 others 5 1

I posed this question to the mods that follow the national scene more closely than I do: who is the most mid “press conference” hire that you feel comfortable saying would succeed at IU? It’s a pretty broad question that had a few answers, but was just a discussion piece. Nothing that came from intel. I’m in the pro (if the first few asks say no) Buzz camp. What trip down 4 years ago memory lane it’s been lately. I recall waking up in the wee hours one morning and like a degenerate I grabbed my phone to check BTB only to see a late night Yeag-bomb about BS. But after it all shook out I said I’m never falling for that again and won’t get wrapped up in a coaching search. Happy to report that after about 8-10 minutes of re-eval, I’ve tossed that whole theory in the bin. We’re all the way back up. I’m ready to hurt again.
