General Coach Candidate News

Dusty signed a 10 year deal at FAU in 2023.

Need to see the details to determine in this is anything but damn - it sucks being an IU fan. We put Woody's feelings over winning. Dusty should be our head coach RIGHT NOW.

Even so, at the very least, a new contract means that the buyout goes up... probably a ton.

Don't sign anything, Dusty!

May spoke exclusively to CBS Sports' Matt Norlander on Friday, shortly before his Wolverines hosted their rivalry matchup against No. 14 Michigan State.

The reason for the timing?

"We've picked up positive momentum as a team, and on the recruiting front, and we didn't want it to be a distraction internally or externally," May told CBS Sports.

"I think it makes it obvious: I'm staying at Michigan," May told CBS Sports, adding, "I really wasn't interested in leveraging in negotiating" with Michigan as the team works toward a high NCAA Tournament seed.

I admire the optimists amongst us.

You guys should figure out a way to bottle that up and sell it :)

I have an extremely hard time finding any sort of positives in this Dusty extension...

Indeed... this is gonna sting for quite a while.

I don't hate anybody... it's not how I'm wired... but this situation almost makes me want to start... Buckner is public enemy number one.

I already knew this was happening I tried to tell everyone earlier. Good thing Dolson had a plan.

….it was posted a while back that Dolson had his man. Dusty quite possibly was never seriously vetted by Dolson because he didn’t need to. All he energy has been on someone Else, obviously.

And if Woodson really did go and ask about his job, and if it caused this whole thing of announcing his retirement a few before the season ended instead of at the end, he could've caused a lot of problems of coaches we could get getting paid like May to stay before we could possibly talk to them. Am I over thinking that? Did that screw Dolson on his search?

Not sure Woody did it on purpose, but in the end, he may have screwed us again!

Or maybe the Dolson has his man talk is just more speculation. The search firm was hired for a reason

For those wondering if it really takes him off the board since the buyout went to only $7.5M, after reading this article I'd say yes.

"I think it makes it obvious: I'm staying at Michigan," May told CBS Sports, adding, "I really wasn't interested in leveraging in negotiating"

Other info from the article:

CBS Sports can exclusively report on the details of May's new contract terms:

  • A one-year extension on the deal, which now runs through the spring of 2030
  • An increase of $1 million annually in salary
  • A pay bump across the board for the Michigan men's basketball staff
  • A big increase investment for program resources, including Michigan's NIL war chest
  • A buyout that will rise to $7.5 million

Mick Cronin is inevitable. Lol.

Maybe Buzz Williams.

Hopefully McDermott or McCasland, if that's possible.

I don't think Oats, Drew, Beard, Otz, etc. are on the table.

During the football search, don't think many of us were talking about Cig other than Lebowski.

Wonder if the basketball hire comes out of left field too. Hopefully in a similarly good way if so.

I was with Lebowski on that one, Thank you!

Pretty sure he’d be walking the sideline in Lexington or Louisville if he wasn’t radioactive.  Getting “vetted” by Ole Miss is laughable.

Getting our ***** kicked by Ole Miss is more than laughable, it’s reality. That’s Indiana basketball 2025.

I will continue to scream McCollum’s name from the mountaintop.

He’s elite!

When’s the last time Indiana has had the best tactician on the sideline? Prime Knight? McCollum would be the very best X’s & O’s coach 9.9 times out of 10.

He’s got a chance to tie Drake’s single season wins record, in year 1 of Division 1, with FOUR D2 transfers starting.

He’s not a flash in the pan. He dominates everywhere he goes. Why would that change at all place where he will have no problems getting talent?

We missed on Stevens and May? Don’t miss on this no brainer. And he is a no brainer. We are all going to find out in short order.

What would everyone’s position have been in TJ Otz prior to his immediate succes at ISU?

Not the flashiest of names but if he gets chosen , I’ll give him a fair shake.

There is only 1 like to your post and I am not going to get into a debate with you on this because that is not who I am, but please make your comments to the thread that’s dedicated to him.  IU is not going to hire the next Archie Miller and Scott Dolson and company are the only ones who will make that decision and they don’t read this message board.  Thanks!
