  1. Wanted to take a second and thank you all for your prayers for my grandson last year. I saw him yesterday and learned that his doctor has released him to play football in his senior year of high school. Based on the x-rays. scans and initial diagnosis, this is nothing short of a miracle.
  2. Good thing Dolson passed on him. He would have been a disaster at IU. /s
  3. Well, it has happened before... these guys come to mind fairly quickly: Max Hoetzel Shaan Burke Richard Mandeville Rob Foster Mark Robinson Joe Hillman Dean Garrett
  4. Sampson didn't trash the program. IU self-reported what today is a non-issue and then fell on its sword to show the NCAA how contrite it was. IU was desperate to maintain a "squeaky clean" reputation, to the absolute detriment of the basketball program. My disdain for Woodson is 100% warranted. He was given the job that he didn't deserve. He was entitled, lazy, petty and protected. He (and Buckner) have earned every bit of my disdain, in spades.
  5. Not even close. (1) Woodson is the answer to that question. No one wanted him except his buddy Quinn. No one else was remotely interested in him. (2) Davis was given the job to appease the players, but that was a bad move, as well.
  6. IMO, this is exactly how we got to where we were. After Knight's glory years (73-90), we started settling for lesser goals. Consistently making the tournament replaced winning the tournament. Next. Sweet 16s replaced Final 4s. Then, Competing for the B1G championship replaced winning the league. As once we started missing on our goals, we continued to lower the goals and the expectations. Pretty soon, we ended up right where you said you (and most of us) are.
  7. Maybe everywhere but Indiana. Of course those who oversee the program have to be willing to pull the trigger when it's obvious that the trigger needs pulling. It's especially hard with the chairman of the BoT has a massive conflict of interest. Yeah, Cig made it look fairly easy, but Cig has something that your average, run-of-the-mill wannabe coach doesn't have. As The General said, everybody wants to win, but not everybody has the will to prepare to win. Things will never improve until those in charge stop giving a guy 4 years because the guy before him got 4 years. As long as we continue to do that, we are doomed to mediocrity. The good news here is that both Scott and Pam seem to understand that and want to see things improve.
  8. It also helps that Cig is not a d!ck about it. For all of RMK's ability and coaching chops, he had way more than his share of warts, personality-wise.

  10. They damn sure did at least once. They hired a mediocre NBA coach who deemed himself worthy of the title "King of Indiana" while preferring to smoke cigars, drink wine and play golf over working the recruiting trail. And they continued to prop him up with tons of cash for the transfer portal and NIL payouts, despite the fact that he could not coach his way out of a wet paper bag. No one else would even look at him... but IU hired him, extended him and gave him unwarranted raises.
  11. Yeah, was more wondering if the window had opened on them yet...
  12. Woodson didn't get a fair shake? What are you smoking? He was a legendary here as a player, and had good connections to the league. People had been clamoring for an "IU guy" for years... Woodson was his own worst enemy. He had no clue what he was getting into, and despite the help that Dolson set up for him, he cast that off. His HS recruiting was non-existent. He was lazy and preferred to play golf in the recruiting season rather than build relationships with potential recruits. What happened to Mike Woodson was 100% the fault of Mike Woodson. He had IU connections and saw himself as the conquering hero, connected to the money within the IU fanbase. He had a chance to do something significant here, but instead, chose to screw the pooch. But no one can say that he wasn't given a fair shake. Moving on, as this is not the thread for a MMW discussion.
  13. With Boynton "officially" named interim, what does that do to the transfer window for UM players? With a named interim coach, it looks like there won't be an immediate search for a permanent replacement for May... so can the players transfer "free of charge" now or not?
  14. From the coach’s perspective, there is very little down time to the college game. If you’re not practicing/playing, you’re in the recruiting cycle. The whole free agency of the transfer portal and NIL only intensifies the pressure and lengthens cycle. Whereas the professional side does have definite down time in the offseason. They have a full front office staff to handle the “recruiting” - dealing with the draft, free agency, etc. Of course the coach has some level of involvement, but that certainly varies from franchise to franchise. IMO, apart from hubris, the difference between the required work effort of a college coach and a pro coach was what tripped up one Michael Dean Woodson. HS recruiting was definitely his weak spot, and it showed over and over and over. It would have been much more evident in the era prior to the NIL/transfer portal. But Mr Woodson is gone, and that’s all water under the bridge. We’ve already seen a number of coaches walk away from the game due, at least in part, to the madness that NIL and the transfer portal have foisted upon us. Looks like Ol’ Dusty is just another victim (though largely speculation on my part, as I’ve not seen any specific comments attributed to Dusty May on the subject). If the current speculation holds, it looks like UM assistant Mike Boynton will get the interim tag. I’m sure that he can manage the talent currently at Michigan. But as a HC, he was atrocious at Oklahoma State (119–109 overall, 51–75 B-XII) so either Michigan looks for a long term replacement for Dusty after the current season, or Michigan will suffer under Boynton.
  15. Now he needs to learn the name of the school.
  16. Indeed. After all, the Mike Davis experiment was a ripping success.

  18. 1. You say that like it's a bad thing. 2. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of fellers.
  19. Son of a $)&*#… that’s gonna leave a mark!
  20. If, in fact the above is true, then Cincinnati absolutely had to know about Sorsby's issues. There's no way they would have "educated[d]" him if they didn't know. Bottom line, the horse is dead... it's probably time to stop beating it.
  21. SAIP... just read this... not sure how they could not know... but gotta CYA, Cincy. https://www.espn.com/nhl/story/_/id/49101081/cincinnati-denies-agent-claim-knew-sorsby-gambling
  22. Some schools have self-reported for less, didn't ya, Rick Greenspan?
  23. Yeah, good luck with any kind of ruling/decision other than "Sorsby plays"... as ridiculous as that is, clearly the fix is in.
  24. (Not Stu, but...) Reading his arguments on X as subsequent posts to the above, he makes a strong case for bypassing the court ruling, IMO. I do not think for a moment that this matter is settled, the latest court ruling notwithstanding.
