Not even close to it. I will give you credit for the story/theory you had on this from the beginning. It did not seem to come off as sourced (someone close told you) but it did seem you spent some time gathering information and your interpretation of that information, so far, has not proven incorrect. I would call your approach calculated and i think it also is a reasonable and an approach i appreciate. Some on here who might have street cred generally have a source who gave them legit intel at one point along the journey. At that point, the intel could have been correct but still could change at the point a decision is made. So sourced information is not always better than calculated information but if we know someone has a source we tend to give more credibility. But getting things right builds credibility quickly too. With Ledlum for example, your theory of IG following was intriguing and could have been spot on at one point but in the end he chose TN. So even if right for 80% of the recruiting journey, being "wrong" in the end unfortunately is more valued. It is kind of like the NCAA tourney. I can often find some higher seeds that will do well in their games but even if the give the higher ranked team a major scare but lose I do not get credit for identifying a team to watch. Having had a couple of college athletes i know there are points along the recruiting journey where things lean a certain way. But at the next stop things could change another way. I appreciate your calculated research and theory and think it certainly has a lot of validity. But in the end it is hard to know what is going on in kids heads until they make an announcement. If MM chooses IU, I know I will remember your theory and the next time you have one will pay attention. But if he goes to Kansas, well we unfortunately do not get much credit for picking the almost winner. thebigweave, tkbbn, Ngw7183 and 7 others 9 1 Quote
Popular Post TheWatShot Posted May 10, 2023 Popular Post Posted May 10, 2023 Friday? That's weird, the Kansas insiders, who are never wrong about anything, said it would be by Thursday. hper50, Feathery, taco corp and 9 others 4 8 Quote

I mean every time Kopp was on the floor, I thought to myself, self, his game really reminds me of Jimmy Butler's. It has nothing to do with style of play. None of those 4 players are the same. Butler, Vincent, Martin, Robinson. All different but still made it through hard work. Quote

That's just where we are as a program right now. We don't have the "homecourt advantage" on this one like we had with Romeo and JBJ. Even those two it was questionable. I was shocked we got Romeo but incredibly excited. JBJ decommitted and then came back on board. I don't remember the Bryant or Vonleh recruitments much. Zeller I thought was going to Carolina or Butler considering where IU was as a program. FortWayneHoosier 1 Quote

ib4iu Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 To me this commitment would mean so much more than just getting MM. -Winning a head to head vs Kansas, getting the type of player who seemingly has avoided the big ten over the last decade, and the boost it would give again to IU/Woody overall in recruiting. The boosters would be ready with NIL in the future knowing Woody and staff can compete with the top programs and win recruits. I think this has the potential to have the type of impact that the Zeller commitment had in terms of overall program booster and that’s not even taking into account MM’s play on the court. cybergates, Artie86, J34 and 4 others 7 Quote

Scotty R Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 What is bad about getting so enthralled with recruiting is that we forget that we already have 11 players who said yes to IU. There are 11 guys who have represented IU in a fine manner and should be proud of them. We get to caught up in who.says no to IU over who says yes. JSHoosier Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 A part of me wants to say it's good he cancelled other visits and is announcing less than a week after his IU visit. Gut says they saw what they needed to confirm Kansas though. Quote

rcbowla Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 I'd 100% agree with this except the 2 major rumors (visits to 4 schools & cancelling UL visit) were reported first by others (Zagoria & Louisville radio host). So someone is leaking info and my best guess would be UL staff. Since they are out of the picture, I think it's safer to say only believe Slater now. This theory may be spot on. Could explain canceled visit if MM camp found UL leaked info. If that is the case then us getting last visit holds less water. Sent from my SM-G996U using Tapatalk Hoosier2014 and Ngw7183 1 1 Quote

I know many posters long for the days when a kid plays for the pride of the school (and it's still true in some cases), but there are many variables in each recruitment. Money is a HUGE one. Within the last year, I changed jobs from a job I loved into a position I was very uncertain about, and one of the key factors was a substantial pay increase. Now I imagine an 18 year old mind, and if the difference in money is 5-10x what I left for, it would play a major influence. I think IU has the money to keep them in conversation, but we have to accept kids will be looking for pay. They add a lot of value for the university. We got this. He is announcing on May 12, or 5/12. 5+12=17. How many letters are in Indiana University? You're welcome... jonz44, Chris007, thebigweave and 12 others 6 3 6 Quote

woodenshoemanHoosierfan Posted May 10, 2023 Posted May 10, 2023 I don't believe NIL was intended to be what it has turned into. To me, there wasn't supposed to be any guarantees play for teams, bu the players could endorse products, receive compensation for their likeness being used, etc. At least that was my understanding. I don't like the way it is now, but I am perfectly fine with how I understood it to be. Having said that, it is legal to do what is happening now, so the game should be played that way.
