Really excited for him and his family. Hope he grabs that spot and holds onto it. But there are a lot of young guys there that can play so no guarantees. (As it should be) I was personally shocked we didn’t get an experienced guy too, which, I guess says a lot. He’s a smart kid, he’s a big kid, he’s a very athletic kid. No reason he can’t be successful. He was pretty dominant in the HS landscape. Was a good baseball player, basketball player too. Needs to stay healthy. Would personally love to see him and Nowakowski race in the 60. Riley was sneaky fast. He was so good. And apparently Brock is watching and learning all that film.

I think so. Duke’s roster is crazy. Illinois is loaded. Michigans top 5 is unreal. Bench comes into question. I have more questions about UConn than most. Very curious if Mullins jumps or gets a little exposed. Happy we are in the top 25 conversation. We were one more star and 1 good depth piece away from being top 10 projection. Which for me is always the hope. But getting near the top 25 is a start. Hoping we can build. Then retain and add to make the next jump.

It sure does. Perfect proof of a winning culture. The buy-in and trust from players is such a big factor in the process too.

Is this pessimistic? I think we are messaging to agents and players we want to build through freshman and actually being honest about it. Strategy wise, I don’t know if that’s good or bad in today’s era. That’s a discussion in itself. But getting talent and keeping talent is the winning formula in the long run. -

No, just an assumption as we are signing transfers. You’d imagine, if changes were being made something would be stated and roster moves incoming wouldn’t be happening. -

We might be one of the rare teams that are actually trying to build through the traditional method. That narrative might resonate and seems true. I suppose there is a staff connection on top of it. -

So we are running it back with Mercer it appears. I don’t see this ending with Winning. -

The adage it’s not who you miss it’s who you get fully fits Football recruting. Some of these may even be blessings if the mindset, priorities, and work ethic aren’t there. I feel like it applies to basketball too, but the supreme talents in basketball are usually still biggest difference makers. And the player pool is less. -

Let’s talk Roster! 2026/2027

Monden is a top 50 worst D1 player. Hes getting 250k. I know the bar has changed significantly but I’ll admit I don’t know the true new levels. What’s funny is, just few years ago Galloway got a raise to 400-500 to run it back. I feel like prices have almost tripled. But I don’t think Harris Is getting over 250. I’d be shocked if dorn is getting over 500- 750. Jasai Miles 100-200 Idk. Many think our freshmen are getting 300-500? I don’t know what they are getting, but if so, I can see why we are trying to build with 75-100 ranked freshman. -

I’m happy at the top (for the most part). Freshman or inexpensive younger guys that will push the freshman compared to literal non playable guys. Even mid major seniors that can push. Maybe slot a 500k for 2 guys like that. 500k is nothing compared to the situation we could be in with injuries. What would Josh Harris, Jasai Miles, or Dorn had cost us to keep? -

The difference to me is the freshman not having any actual competition for playing time. That lowers the ceiling significantly because the spots are given. If we had pieces at 8-12 that were competing for time that would mean the better ones win out. The ones that aren’t as good, they have to choose to leave or stay and develop. Either choice benefits us. -

Exactly how I’ve seen it. Needed a playable 4/5 and another combo guard that can play. Move Karvala, Manhertz, Sokolov to 11,12,13. -

Until I see a California kid to Indiana I’ll never believe it. Especially Compton Magic -

Yep. Yigi is also particularly foul prone. Something to watchout for. Knowing DeVries he’ll run some 4 guard sets and have Mustaf at the 4. Could be some solutions. -
It’s gross, but it’s more and more what winning basketball is gonna look like in the states.

If true, it’s roster building malpractice. Hell, we have posters here that would watch 15 of his games to get a scout for fun. Based on last season, he seems like a coach that takes on the challenge of coaching what he has. He doesn’t strike me as an analytical, ultra high IQ type guy that obsesses over the roster and the roster build. Not a type A personality. many of his/staffs choices left so much to be desired and added a level of doubt to every choice they make for me. This season is better by a landslide but leaves several significant question marks. Genuinely curious if this is 1 year rental/back up situation like Acinomivic was. Maybe practice against guys like Yigi and AS is better than playing low level German ball. Not sure this is a serious 4 year commitment or not. -

Additionally I wouldn’t have signed Manhertz or at least had him reclass back to his original class. I’d have encouraged him to get a Montverde type year of development and stay a ‘27. Tried to add a freshman I like better or thought would be more ready to contribute. -

Right? It’s a career of stepping stones and I’m neck deep into a dental career. Far too old to start that totem pole. Honestly, if I wasn’t supporting a family of 5 on a single income I could see myself in an alternate universe ‘wishing’ I had tried the Dusty May career path. lol. -

Under these restrictions I would be have kept Dorn, the better prospect of Jason Drake/Jasai Miles, the better prospect of Josh Harris/Clemens. I also would have liked to know the market for what we spent on Lindsay/Darren Harris and see if I could have found players I like better in the spending space. -

Our roster build is insane. so our best lineup is probably starting Yigi and AS together. But if we do or want to, we have Sisley that can come in as an undersized 4 and no 5 that will be ready to play at this level. Again, our best lineup likely starts Burton, and Lindsay but we don’t have a 1 to come in with any proven worth if those 2 start. This is why I need a job on the staff. And this is why don’t build a roster with 3 unproven freshman and 3 practice guys who can’t contribute. Wild. -
IU 2026-7 freshman comps
WayneFleekHoosier replied to RaceToTheTop's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Not sure I agree. It’s a huge jump for freshman in general. Relying on players ranked outside the top 25-50 is a wildcard. Getting them on campus and slowly adjusted the game is what id expect as Normal at a program trying to compete and win at the top. Where I do agree, is there are Fragers, and Waglers out there that can be good as a freshman and not highly ranked. Indiana has historically been awful at identifying these types of players. Really, really hoping for this to change.
