Let’s talk Roster! 2026/2027
WayneFleekHoosier replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I agree with this. Sisley is gonna play a lot. And I think that’s a good thing. His complete and utter loss of confidence shooting the ball from all 3 levels plus the FT line made him hard to play last year. If he gets slotted as a change of pace 4 that can run the floor and finish in transition that can become his niche. Whereas, at the 3, if the shooting isn’t fixed he shrinks the floor enormously. So, for me, until he proves he can shoot it with average numbers he’s a 4. If he magically fixes the shooting then he’s a Swiss Army knife that can play 2-5, and be a DeVries-like 5 in times of utter need. Sisley, Mustaf, Harris, Pam. The level of our success will rest on the health of Burton/Sherrill and the level of readiness of the abovementioned 4. -

My issue is the total punting on spots 11-13. Always has been my issue. I’d much rather get guys that might pop that are older with possible high upside than Monden who is basically a walk on and Sokolov is along the right idea but get the 21-22 YO version of Sokolov. Those Euro guys aren’t very expensive. I think we should have kept Dorn/Miles and Harris then grab an Elder Sokolov. Roster would be vastly improved. -
Well said!

Odds/Thoughts on building top 25 preseason
WayneFleekHoosier replied to WayneFleekHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Glad we spent the big bucks (didn’t think we’d be able to spend enough to build what we built). Odds are pretty good we end up 18-25 before the season starts. Which is awesome. That’s a nice starting off point, if it holds. Rosters 20-35 don’t feel too different to me. Ive been vocal about my concerns on this roster build, but I can see the reasoning as a top 25 team. Won’t ever not feel we blew our ultimate potential with our last 3 spots. So here’s to hoping the freshman can elevate quickly. And our top 7 stay healthy. -

Lamar Wilkerson is a HOOSIER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WayneFleekHoosier replied to FortWayneHoosier's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
Wish we had Lamar on this roster. Lamar and Sam Alexis we are a top 8-10 team. (Or a like pairing) Anyway, Lamar is a great dude. I always enjoy his attitude and takes on basketball and life. Hope he eventually gets a real chance to play NBA ball. -
Milan To Kentucky. No longer the laughing stocks. Their 4 and 5 spots are strong. Guard spots have potential. Not a Duke or Illinois level roster but they likely surpassed us in preseason rankings with this addition. We get a semi home game to prove it on the court this year.

Transfer Portal w/IU Interest
WayneFleekHoosier replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I think we are shopping in the $0.00 basket for our last few additions. I’d find it hard to believe they will all of the sudden pony up cash unless this week during practices they have their minds changed. It’s fun though to hold onto to hope the roster might be improved with a final piece. So here’s to hoping. -
No doubt. The talent is college hoops is as good as it’s ever been. Duke is crazy. Florida is crazy. The next 10-12 are loaded too.

Transfer Portal w/IU Interest

They told us a while ago the roster was set more or less. They have since added 2 completely underwhelming depth pieces that cost next to nothing. I think we spent huge to acquire our 6 from the TP. I think Sherrill was around 4-5. Burton 2.5-3. Mustaf 1.5-2. Harris 1.5. Yigi 2.5-3. Lindsay 2-2.5. (Just guesses with some a little more informed). Sisley 1 to 1.5. 1.5-2 for the 3 freshman. I think we are really close to 20 million as it stands. We will add something at 13 but I expect something along the lines of Our last 2 additions. I’m on record saying we’ve hurt ourselves immensely with 8-12. I hope Karvala or Manhertz surprise and we stay Healthy in our top 7. I pray we find something more of use at 13 but I don’t expect it or think the money is there or else we would have acted differently with spots 11-12. -
Really excited for him and his family. Hope he grabs that spot and holds onto it. But there are a lot of young guys there that can play so no guarantees. (As it should be) I was personally shocked we didn’t get an experienced guy too, which, I guess says a lot. He’s a smart kid, he’s a big kid, he’s a very athletic kid. No reason he can’t be successful. He was pretty dominant in the HS landscape. Was a good baseball player, basketball player too. Needs to stay healthy. Would personally love to see him and Nowakowski race in the 60. Riley was sneaky fast. He was so good. And apparently Brock is watching and learning all that film.

I think so. Duke’s roster is crazy. Illinois is loaded. Michigans top 5 is unreal. Bench comes into question. I have more questions about UConn than most. Very curious if Mullins jumps or gets a little exposed. Happy we are in the top 25 conversation. We were one more star and 1 good depth piece away from being top 10 projection. Which for me is always the hope. But getting near the top 25 is a start. Hoping we can build. Then retain and add to make the next jump.

It sure does. Perfect proof of a winning culture. The buy-in and trust from players is such a big factor in the process too.

Is this pessimistic? I think we are messaging to agents and players we want to build through freshman and actually being honest about it. Strategy wise, I don’t know if that’s good or bad in today’s era. That’s a discussion in itself. But getting talent and keeping talent is the winning formula in the long run. -

No, just an assumption as we are signing transfers. You’d imagine, if changes were being made something would be stated and roster moves incoming wouldn’t be happening. -

We might be one of the rare teams that are actually trying to build through the traditional method. That narrative might resonate and seems true. I suppose there is a staff connection on top of it. -

So we are running it back with Mercer it appears. I don’t see this ending with Winning. -

The adage it’s not who you miss it’s who you get fully fits Football recruting. Some of these may even be blessings if the mindset, priorities, and work ethic aren’t there. I feel like it applies to basketball too, but the supreme talents in basketball are usually still biggest difference makers. And the player pool is less. -

Monden is a top 50 worst D1 player. Hes getting 250k. I know the bar has changed significantly but I’ll admit I don’t know the true new levels. What’s funny is, just few years ago Galloway got a raise to 400-500 to run it back. I feel like prices have almost tripled. But I don’t think Harris Is getting over 250. I’d be shocked if dorn is getting over 500- 750. Jasai Miles 100-200 Idk. Many think our freshmen are getting 300-500? I don’t know what they are getting, but if so, I can see why we are trying to build with 75-100 ranked freshman.
