General Coach Candidate News

I'm hearing that Dolson has been having some serious behind-the-scenes talks with Chris Collins' representatives.

Scott and the IU administration like that Collins is from a fellow B1G school, runs a clean program and has taken them to their first three NCAA tourneys. They think he can really prosper at IU with better NIL and easier admissions. And Collins thinks he'd be able to more at IU than at NW.

Dolson, who knows his hoops, also thinks Collins' is a whiz when it comes to X's and O's. Plus, we just can't beat the guy, so we're looking to get him to join us. I wouldn't be surprised when Northwestern's season ends to hear an announcement of Collins to IU.

OK, I completely made that up. Just trying to create a diversion from all this sordid Chris Beard debate. (BTW, I actually do think Collins would be a very good hire for IU).

I will go on record saying he is on my top tier list. I love it

I don't think anyone is arguing that he isn't a good coach, just that his career numbers don't really warrant the weird obsession with him. Even if you include his one season at LR (17-3) and his D2 time he is a career .520 coach in conference games with one final four and two elite eights. He is an excellent non-conference coach. He has done well in his  NCAA experience. He is not (as of yet) remotely elite in conference games at the P5 level. One (tie with KU) conference title.

He is a good coach. He is not (as of yet) the second coming of RMK and has baggage many folks are uncomfortable with. Dolson will have to weigh those things. I also think winning at TT and OM is hard, but GM seems to have done well at TT so who knows. I think good coaches produce good results, sometimes location is really overstated as a marker of coaching chops (I am skeptical of Collins and Brownell for example-- I think Beard would win more than either of them have at NW or Clemson respectively).

Anyways, doubt he gets beyond interviews and vetting since he'd be at UK or UL if he could, but I will trust Dolson even if I disagree with his candidacy for HC at IU.

FWIW and without comment: just being charged with something like that would keep you from being hired in my industry. It does not matter if the charges are dropped, they are visible on an FBI 10-year and would preclude someone from getting called back, much less getting to the interviews required for attaining the clearance needed.

You're doubling counting the E8 on the way to the FF. The way you say it makes it seem like he's had 3 runs in the tournament instead of 2.

Opinions are generally judgement calls based upon information that is not comprehensive.  Have you met any of the candidates in this process?
Nope and that's why I don't judge people I've never met. I leave that up the the purity crowd online who are more than happy to judge people based stuff they read online.

Just a general FYI for everyone: Only positive posts regarding Bradley Kent Stevens are allowed on the General Coaching News Thread.

I read that and thought, “Wait, Bradley’s coach isn’t Kent Stevens.”
Yeah, time to head back to the coffee pot.

The biggest criticism you received for calling the board delusion was a single confused face. So sensitive.

Jimmy Sorgi, no special sensitivities here. I’m sarcastic and silly on most all my posts. Enjoying reading the back and forth banter on BTB!

We are all judging every candidate based off of stuff read online, watching games, etc.  You’re all twisted up over someone finding religiosity objectionable in a leader of their chosen team.  It’s just a personality trait criticism , but you swing to the word judgement to indicate persecution.

It’s okay if people disagree and reject faith based leadership.  It’s also okay to pay a full tithe and follow the Lord in all you do.

You do realize what you posted and what Chris posted can be true at the same time.

Let me tell you how the legal world works. If they fired her for hiring a employee. They would get sued for not only her current contract but for 2-3x damages. That is how the real world works. Iu is not paying her $15mil because she hired someone. Chris does not know what he is talking about.

What if said employee (with a strike against them already) had an incident that put a blight on the university, could she be held responsible then?

To me, they count if you win or lose, doesn’t have to be the last round made. Two elite eights that produced 1 FF probably would have made more sense the way I look at tournament success.
