Transfer Portal w IU Interest
Jeff Flabjohns replied to Class of '66 Old Fart's topic in Indiana Men's Basketball
I’m guilty of it too, but it’s easy to forget sometimes that we’re getting Tucker Devries. He’s a top 20 transfer for a reason…but being the coach’s kid it doesn’t carry some of the same cache. The roster is gonna be loaded -

Looks like we actually offered him too, though he didn’t visit. https://247sports.com/college/indiana/article/indiana-basketball-recruiting-7-foot-1-2025-center-fridrik-leo-curtis-of-iceland-and-cats-academy-ma-lands-indiana-scholarship-offer-238594751/amp/ -

I guess Bryson’s audition last year for SEC schools didn’t go too well. His tape was 80% seated next to the walk-ons -

Goodman is such a dweeb. Making mention a couple times about how much IU is paying LW. Could tell Wilkerson was a just a tad uncomfortable with those comments -

I think it’s commendable you’re able to shove the length of your fandom into just about any point you’re making. But…you’re missing the main tenets of this discussion. Most big schools are making massive amounts of money on TV deals, revenue sharing as well as ticket sales, merchandise, etc. They make MORE money when their teams do well. There is more fan interest and donations when the teams perform better. The value of the brand grows. Their teams do well when they attract better coaching/talent. That requires paying those individuals more. -

Well yes, it’s a team sport? Flagg’s NIL was largely financed by private entities who have a massive stake in the success of Duke basketball. Just like Steve Cohen going out and spending 750 million on Juan Soto. I don’t understand the point you’re making. You can’t say that the brand is the reason for all the viewers and then crap on them paying talent to bring home a championship to their large fanbase. -

Exactly. Comparing this to minor league baseball is ridiculous. We just saw a Final Four that drew over 15 million viewers per game. -

You’re supporting my point. The interest in the name on the front is so strong, and so lucrative, that the NIL numbers we’ve been seeing these last few years don’t surprise me. -

These players are worth whatever the market dictates…whatever teams are willing to pay. If you asked Duke admin, Flagg specifically is worth probably 10million+ based upon all he brings to the team on/off the court. The NCAA and schools have profited for decades on high interest in college sports that’s fueled by strong regional tribalism and partly by the kids being less-talented than professionals. That difference in quality of play and its unpredictability makes the sport great for a lot of people. I’d never cite the lower quality as a reason they shouldn’t be making this kind of money. -

Yeah, you’d think that sizable of an NIL discrepancy would make this an easy decision if he viewed both options relatively similarly. -

Huge decision for LW and his family, but this wait is painful.
