I like all of our guys and am not the least bit concerned over who stays and who goes. They signed up to play for a different coach and if they want to move on, I wish them the best. I want the guys here who Coach Woodson wants here. He has been around and coached and played against the best players in the game. To even suggest that he doesn't know what he's doing is foolish. I'm sure he already knows what kind of player he wants. The portal will give him a chance to get those guys right away. He's an IU guy through and through. After giving this some thought, I'm all in. I like what's happening in Bloomington.

But I was WAY more excited about both Crean and Archie than this one. And I wasn’t that excited for either. So maybe this will be the key. Unite the fanbase by getting someone barely anyone thought was possible to even seriously consider. Now we all rally around him.

I’ve appreciated arguments for why you believe he’ll be a good hire folks. I’m grasping for ANYTHING at this point.

I’m not trying to tell you how to feel about this, but I honestly don’t get the “devastated” position. Questioning it? Sure. But devastated? Do you think Woodson can’t develop and coach college players? Do you think he can’t create relationships with recruits and get them to buy into his vision?

I get that he’s never coached college before. But to think that he’s going into this like a deer in headlights assumes the worse of all options.

ive seen people say that no other P5 college would hire him. OK. But it’s not likely he would want to coach for another power 5 college. And how many college coaches would an NBA team hire as their head coach? A few. And while people like to say Woodson failed as an NBA head coach, taking two different teams to the playoffs isn’t child’s play.

I think Woodson will develop a fundamentally sound team, I think he knows his Xs and Os, and will be able to connect with recruits. And while some don’t put a premium on this, he is an Indiana Guy who wants this job. Not just for the salary. But as a passion.

I'll probably get ripped for this but Dakich said it best on his show on Friday. If they don't want to be here, goodbye. I get listening to other schools while Indiana was searching for a new coach. But they have one now. They either fit in with what Mike wants to do or they don't. I don't see how someone wouldn't want to stick around for a former NBA coach when they came here to play for Archie. But that's just me.

The guys that think we are still a blue blood are the guys that are disappointed. Not blaming you for thinking that way, but I do not think we are a blue blood. 

Blue blood implies nobility and infallibility. We haven't made the tournament in 5 years and have made one Elite 8 in the last 20. We have been incompetent and embarrassed by our rivals...Hardly infallible--how the hell could we look in the mirror and say we are a blue blood? I cringe when I hear it.

Luckily we have a road back to blue blood status, which other schools do not. Huge advantage. But we are not a blue blood at the moment.

Recruiting was something we all thought might be a strike against Woody but give me an incredibly competitive guy getting blasted by guys who are often wrong like Goodman. A guy who has wanted this job, not a college job but THIS job. Give me this guy as my coach vs Stevens. I can’t wait to watch him go out and prove the world wrong.

Only one guy would have made 99.99% of the fan base happy. It sounds like Dolson did all he could but it did not happen.  

Instead we are treading into the unknown with Woodson. Let’s see how it plays out. I do know, 110%, that I’m thrilled we are not going into next season with the known...Archie.

For those hesitant about a change we knew what we were getting with Archie as  he had many of the same issues in year four that he had in year one, we came in 10th (again), lost the last six games of the year and did not make a basket in the last 10 minutes of his last game. There was ZERO momentum in the program.  The coaching change has me exponentially more excited/interested for next year than a 5th with Archie.

With a loaded roster left by his buddy Dean. (I mean...Davis took Knights players to a FF.) Then what? He never recruited and bolted on the job leaving nothing for Doherty. Who ironically recruited the national championship team for ol’ Roy. 
 

Those were still two bad hires that nobody else would’ve made. To unc’s credit they corrected them quickly... unlike IU.

180* wrong.   Blue blood means historic.  Foundational.  All time championships both national and conference.  Programs that built and shaped what we have now in every sport (the Knicks, for example are a blue blood NBA team).    There is no "momentary" blue blood status; nor is a team "still" a blue blood.   You either are or you aren't.   In college basketball, it's Indiana, North Carolina, Kansas, Kentucky, probably Duke and probably UCLA.   For example, what will it mean for college basketball as a whole if Purdue becomes a national powerhouse?    Not a whole hell of a lot.   What will it mean when Indiana does so again?    You know the answer as well as I do.  Reason?  College basketball's better when Indiana's good.  Same as college football's better when Notre Dame's good.  Why?  Blue bloods have that kind of clout.  And they always will.  It's not a temporary condition.   There's a reason IU is RIGHT NOW the #3 revenue generating college basketball program even as bad as they've been.  You're making up your own definition and then arguing against it.

Watching Southern Cal dismantle Oregon got me to thinking ...

Pete Carroll only had college coaching stints as an assistant -- never was a head coach. But USC took a flyer on him after a few meh NFL seasons as a head coach. And after the hire, fans were saying, "What the f--k!" But it worked out pretty damn well (except, of course, for the part where a booster buys Reggie Bush's family a house). 

Maybe this will have a similar outcome. We're kinda like USC -- a blueblood that's fallen on some hard times. 

C'mon, MIke -- be our Pete Carroll. But keep an eye on those boosters!
