One thing I’ll say about why Stevens should be considering the job is “lifetime earnings,” and it’s kind of interesting because you rarely hear anyone talk about it.

By turning down IU, he’s not walking away from $7M per year over 7 years or whatever we think the offer might have been. He’s actually walking away from $7M a year for 20 to 25 years. $140M to $170M!!!!!

He’s not going to be the coach of the Celtics for 20 more years. And his next NBA stop isn’t going to pay him $7M a year (I don’t think).

It’s just like Fitzgerald at Northwestern. Dude can stay there forever. Stevens isn’t being offered a lifetime contract by IU (we don’t think) but at the same time he kind of is.

Do I think he’s coming? No. But for what could ultimately be $140M to $170M I think he’d be crazy NOT to.

I mean legally speaking BS can’t publicly say he’s negotiating his contract or looking at another Job. His contract is also being negotiated by his wife, which is his agent and so there would be two people in the know. BS’s wife and Dolson...so leaks wouldn’t be ongoing. Doubt he comes but it’s also not a 0% chance. Fwiw I do have a “source” and I use that term loosely, he still believes it’s stevens. But who knows.

Brad told IU he owed it to the team to make it through the trade deadline, both to see what moves were made and to position the Celtics well (they're not going to get good value for any trades if other teams sense desperation from a struggling team whose coach quit).

Meanwhile, IU has to have some evidence of a coaching search, so they've interviewed people connected to the program (e.g., Woodson and Cheaney) who they do not plan to hire. But it's a show of good faith for former players that they are listening to them.

Thus, a situation in which IU has not hired a coach, and the only interview rumors are for people they easily could have hired. There's no indication that they've even spoken with anyone else - meaning not only would Dolson be keeping things quiet, but the coaches he is talking to and their agents would be keeping quiet. That's a tough ask.

Or, Dolson is just going through the motions and appeasing the fanbase while waiting for the appropriate time.

I think the interviewing is two things, possible assistant and checking boxes
