  1. IU just had 2 commitments where nobody had any idea they were even a possibility for IU at the time. Doesn’t seem like this staffs style to leak news to anyone regarding their roster plans for next year. I wouldn’t worry about what others are writing about the staffs intentions.

  2. Seems to me people are getting a little anxious over some poor stylistic choices in Rabby's writing lol. IMO "The heart of the Indiana basketball roster is set" is not supposed to be insight. Reads more like a fluffy lede to me. The follow up tweet just reinforcing that the freshmen don't add post depth so the portal will "remain under consideration" as in we'll continue evaluating options, including possibly Euros. I don't see Ryan Carr adding dead weight like Ristic or Andrej to the roster. Doubt they're taking a break for milk and cookies.

  3. pretty logical stuff when you look at the rest of the roster. I don't think he/anyone would need inside info to throw poop at a wall here and get that right.

  4. Yeah, they aren't done looking. They moved swiftly and bagged the priority guys and can now step back, take in the whole roster without the "if" hanging on to their vision, and put finishing touches on the team as they see fit. Plus getting 6 P4 signings in a week where you're competing with other big market players had to be exhausting. Mental gymnastics morning to night; I'm sure they need a break. They do in fact deserve their milk and cookies.

  7. And it’s a no leak policy right? Rab doesn’t know, and “heart” of the team is not the same as the team.

  9. If just one frosh plays rotation mins and you add a backup big you’re at a 9 man rotation already. There isn’t really room for anyone else of note. I’m not sure what people are expecting.

  10. That's kind of why I specifically picked Zeisloft as the example. Remember, Crean took a lot of heat for that pickup. Zeisloft averaged like 6ppg at the mid-major level. He wasn't a guy you had to promise a ton of minutes too, but then he ended up earning them. With that said, I agree. One more serviceable big, and then you're looking to supplement any other additions IMO with a specific specialist (ie. Zeisloft type). Going back to that same year (2016). The Michigan big that transfered in and was huge in the Big Ten title run. Again, if I remember correctly, he had pretty much fallen out of the rotation for Beilein the year before, and was not a really sought after transfer, but then played a big role for IU.

  11. Would love to see a Nick Zeisloft type added with one of those spots.

  12. Of course the heart of the roster is set. What we don't know is how the staff views the FR.

  13. IU was always bringing in a GM regardless of how the coach did in the first year. That was reported before the season even started that was a position they were looking to fill down the road

    NCAA MBB Transfer Portal

Ok, then. We’ll see how it goes the 1st time McCasland benches the kid and then sees his Mom’s tweet that she hopes the coach dies.

  18. Playing Sherrell at the 4 will come with some defensive issues against teams with stretch bigs. Plenty of tape on him in drop coverage and slow to shooters. Think Race Thompson trying to cover the perimeter…May see Sisley more in those games and AS more in the 5 role Offensive arsenal and rim protection though are upper level and much needed in the front court.

  19. We’d probably be better off if everyone just realized Rabjohns isn’t very precise with his language and not spiral due to unintentional (or intentional at times I suppose) ambiguities

  20. A couple of notes: This is what Rabjohns initially tweeted: "The heart of the Indiana basketball roster is set. IU has added six from the transfer portal -- all with P4 experience -- and IU believes in Trent Sisley and its freshman -- Prince Alexander Moody, Vaughn Karvala, and Trevor Manhertz." But then a few minutes later, he tweeted (I put in bold the Big change): "IU sees high level guard play, athletic wings and high-level shot making from all three freshman. Post depth will remain under consideration from the transfer portal, but the heart of IU's 2026-27 basketball roster is set". I'm sure the change is either because he was told by IU to make that correction or because Rabjohns felt the original tweet made it sound like post depth wasn't going to be addressed when it was in reality going to be.

  21. After a disappointing season, he has redeemed himself some with this portal class. Now he needs to get them to gel and win 25 games this season with one of them being NW. But first he’s at the Office Lounge having a beer with his wife. My brother is bartending and he said they just walked in. I told him to buy them a round on me.

  24. Sean Wright @SeanWrightNBA BREAKING: Momentum inside the #Wisconsin Badgers program continues to trend in the wrong direction following multiple missed transfer portal opportunities. Sources say head coach Greg Gard has grown increasingly vocal behind the scenes regarding resource disparities, particularly as rival Big Ten Conference programs aggressively invest in NIL and roster-building infrastructure. My heart is aching (not) for the poor Badgers.

  26. I like this approach. The back-up PG & C don't need to win games, just need to not lose games. Competent is fine. For center I envision someone like Langdon Hatton from a couple yrs ago. Big body, not flashy, but affordable! For that 3rd spot I would LOVE to get a dynamic Wing scorer. Probably tapped out the budget already, but adding an above average SF would make this line-up pop. But if they are comfortable with the committee approach I would be fine with the 4/5 option you described instead.

  27. 12th and 13th roster spots are basically always break-the-glass-in-case-of-emergency practice players IMO. If those guys play in real games it usually means you're in some kind of trouble.

  28. Hysterics with Rabby said the budget for the roster this year was about $20M. I don’t know how much of that was spent, but I would assume once all is said and done, it will be most of it, like high-teens. That’s insane. IU is funding FB and MBB at levels I didn’t think were possible.

  30. You just can’t help yourself. No, that isn’t the optics here. Having a full staff in place when the portal opened (along with an increased NIL budget) has certainly helped. No clue how much of a role the new GM has played, but several of our incoming players have ties to the staff.

  31. You mean people here overreacted to something? No way. BTW the staff deserves some milk and cookies after the past couple days. Maybe even throw in some ice cream.

  32. Not sure where you are seeing that. They are #38 on his list. But John Rothstein isnt any smarter than anybody else. I can respect that he actually likes the sport he covers, a lot of people just pretend to. But he's still an idiot most of the time.

  33. I’m not convinced they will be mid. Sometimes names get all the hype. But Cox, Harris, Mayer, Benter, Jacobsen. They can all play. They have a little guard that resshirted that Painter is really high on. Said he would lead scrimmages in scoring this season even. Antoine West, I believe. They will be well coached and guys will be better than their name implies. But man, I hope they fall down a few notches.

  34. Based off nothing but hoping for the best, I bet we sign the 12th and 13th roster spots before the 11th roster spot. Two cheap seniors. A big body Center that probably won't play much unless there's an injury. And a pure PG who does the same. And for the 11th spot... we go to Europe over the summer for a 4/5 that can play rotation minutes as the third big.

  35. Did some research on that rivalry one time. I think it was after visiting Lawrence and noticing that, while their eyes were on playing us, it was still pretty apparent that Mizzou was public enemy #1 there. That one goes a lotttt deeper than “our campuses aren’t too far apart, hate u lol!!!”

  36. I think it would feel like wearing worn out shoes with a new suit. Last year felt thrown together and random. This year feels calculated and serious. I appreciate those players, however....

  37. GMs are getting common in CBB. To name a few schools with one: Michigan, UConn, and Illinois. And there are many others. This trend will likely continue. Everything is of course contingent on results, but bringing in a GM is a smart move. I don't see the issue here.

  39. Man you and I have butted heads before but it boggles my mind how people talk about you being doom And gloom when you continually have been right about what this team is capable of. I drank the koolaid last year even and I’ve always been called negative

  43. I have a real hard time believing that DeVries, Carr, the coaching staff and the donors would bring us to this point and then not finish the job. That would be irresponsible and inexcusable, IMO.

  44. Unless this rule changed in the past couple years, teams can't start their first full team pre-season practices until 42 days before their first regular season game. That equates to late September. In the summer, there's 8 weeks of practice. Maximum of 8 hours of activities per week, skill instruction is limited to 4 hours per week, so half the time is spent on conditioning and the mental aspect of things. I highly doubt the staff that just signed 6 players in a week with numerous apparent back up options having scheduled visits are not on top of the ball. Carr seems to have a clear understanding of how to navigate the market... content to see what he does without an arbitrary time factor imposed on him. Especially if you're someone who wants to add a Euro guy... they will not, for the most part, be available until mid-summer. So it does make some sense to not fill everything asap IMO. The portal closes next Tuesday, meaning no new players will be able to enter after. Last year there was a late rush to the portal of talented players. You can still sign guys after the portal closes, so that's the time we could look for good value or "bargain bin" as some say... (a break the glass in case of emergency senior PG would make sense here IMO). For all we know right now, the staff could be trying to coax a 3rd big into the portal or working on a Euro connection or something else.
