General Coach Candidate News

Maybe he thought that style would (and largely has) work in the Pac12 since it is unlike most west coast programs.. now it is just the same style as the rest of the B1G -

I was fortunate to have great seats today, right behind the CBS crew. I watched Woody and May a lot today. Nothing earth shattering here but it is crazy how little Woody does in a game, other than the gripes at the ref. The players dont listen when he does try. May was very active and engaged. Just polar opposites. He is stealing $. Make it end. -

Yes, normal spot at scorers table right near where Woody stands like he is frozen -

Iowa has some nice options between Devries and McCollum once Fran “retires” or is let go. -

Enjoy listening to him in various interviews. Loved his interview after their first loss this year. Night and Day to what we listen to, nothing about a hump. Take out his first 2 years as a HC and he has won almost 90% of his games. Still sits at 82%. Crazy. -

Based on your posting history, sounds like you may know McCollum’s agent? -

I get the size joke but, otherwise? His resume is miles better than Archie’s was at time of hire. It’s actually very similar, if not better, than Sampson’s was when IU hired him. if you don’t like Cronin, it’s because of his unfiltered personality or style of play (which is similar to Sampson, Beard, Barnes etc.). Not because of his resume at Murray, Cincy and UCLA. Not my first or second choice, but he would be a massive upgrade from Woodson. I’ll be paying attention to his public comments before and after the game on the 14th. -

He played at Evansville Harrison with Calbert. Plenty of ties. -

Brownell is an interesting case. His name has been mentioned in previous years given his Indiana ties, but the resume wasn’t there. Last year’s E8 run and a senior led team this year that has the look of another NCAA run. Overall he has done well at a school that is tough to recruit to in that league and is well respected among peers. If Dolson is speaking with Stevens, I could see BS advocating for BB, as they are both former DePauw players and seemingly have similar basketball philosophies. I could see IU “settling” on BB after another run at BS and maybe Pearl, as his agent leverages us for a new facility and/or Steven named as coach in waiting. Funny thing is I am not sure it is a given that BB would take it. Have a family friend that was a Sigma Chi with him at DePauw and is part of a group that visits him every year at Clemson. He has a pretty good set up there and maybe doesn’t want the fish bowl. I don’t know that to be a fact tho. Def wouldn’t win the presser but I do think he could be very good at IU, maybe not elite. And look for Marty Simmons to make his long awaited (haha) return to Bloomington, if BB were to be hired. -

Thank you and please do. I’ll share another story relevant to some of your expertise. My son, again, was waiting tables and had an older couple in Celtics gear, it was this summer a couple days after the Celtics won the title. He says to them you must be happy and the couple said yes, especially since their son is the GM (which is funny as he is actually the President). My son tells them he is a big IU fan and that we are always hoping Brad would coach IU. His Dad says, “us too! But he would never do that to Butler” It is a Dad talking, who knows, and things obviously can always change, but I always found it interesting that he said that. One can dream… -

Longtime lurker here. Kind of. I have some perspective here as my kid grew up with Braden and we were around the Westfield program. His mom was Miss Basketball in Arkansas and met his Dad at Arkansas Tech. His Dad grew up in Kokomo area (I think played at Western) and then Ark Tech. Braden lived most of his life in Indiana. I believe he liked the Crean Zeller teams as a kid but I never saw him in any IU gear. A lot of MSU gear tho. My son laughed when I told him people said he was a big IU fan. He was smaller and played for his Dad’s AAU team on a lower circuit instead of Indy Heat (which he could have), thus the lack of early HM offers. He also popped for Purdue before the summer of his senior year, where I think he would have garnered plenty of HM offers. Belmont was the first offer and he was telling people he was going to go there (until Purdue offered). He did an unofficial to IU for the PSU game before the world shut down. Lander was there too and then committed soon after. Plenty of people were telling Archie the kid was special- smartest player and one of the best passers I’ve seen in Indiana HS basketball. It wasn’t hard to figure out and Painter has admitted as much once he saw his tape. Anyway, enough about a Purdue player and back to firing this clown that is torpedoing our program into the ground.
