  1. I constantly find myself reading @WayneFleekHoosier's posts and getting mad. I want to reply and go at him for the negativity and expectations that at the moment are too high. It frustrates me. Then I usually take a beat and don't reply. Then I take another beat and wonder why I don't reply and get into a back and forth with him. During that time I realize it's because I know he's probably right. I get it, we haven't even signed a player yet, we have to let things play out before we judge things, and I'm usually way more on the patient side. But, my worry all season was whether DeVries had the cache to swing big on this landscape, as well as the funds, especially after essentially wasting a year and creating no momentum. How come Louisville can get Flory and Shelstad to take a joint visit and IU can't even get in with one of them? How come Michigan can bounce back from the Juwan Howard experience like it never happened, but we're still discussing Mike Davis, Crean, Archie and Woodson? This program has no juice and has been lifeless for so long. Just frustrating. Feels like we're watching the same movie over and over. Ok, rant over. I'll go back to managing my expectations and being more measured now.

  5. They are represented by the same agent. Taking that visit together but not expected to go to same place but who knows. If an IU coach did this and they didn’t end up going to IU people would kill the coach for wasting resources on kids that were never coming. Michigan has been the far better basketball program than IU over that stretch of time you stated. Even Howard made an elite 8. Beilein had Michigan rolling. Part of me was kind of glad May didn’t have to make a choice between IU or Michigan because he might of picked Michigan over IU anyway or at least the best basketball decision for him would of been Michigan over IU. Who knows where he would of picked but Michigan had been to the championship game twice and more importantly had 10 winning conference records since 2011-12 with 3 separate times have back to back to back winning seasons. Is what it is at this point. IU basketball program isn’t relevant in the college basketball landscape today regardless of the money spent. Until on court results change that’s the reality

  6. For the record, I'm fine with dumping on DDV if next year's roster shows he hasn't learned his lesson and/or been able to successfully adjust his approach. I just refuse to preemptively engage in teeth gnashing and woe-is-us-ism when credible reports from national writers list IU as one of a small handful of teams to watch for, basically, half of the top 10 transfers currently on the market. Especially when all of them would represent a big leap forward from last year's strategy. If we swing and miss at all of them, then have at it. But patience is a virtue, especially in a case like this when we'll all know a heck of a lot more in 7-10 days.

  12. All the excuses in the world go out the window for Devries when the guy next door takes over the worst P4 football program in the country and wins a national championship two years later. Winners win, particularly in the NIL/portal era. I don’t expect a NC out of Devries, but there’s no reason he can’t build a team that’s solidly in the tournament next year.

  14. Some team is gonna get the highest profile portalizers. I guess that adding Oumar Ballo to IU’s lineup was sweet because of how much he cost, but…………. I’m FAR more interested in seeing if IU wins a lot of games next year.

  17. Nothing we’ve seen from Devries suggests he’s a good enough coach to win with middling talent. We tried the mid major scrappy underdogs approach last year. It was a disaster. It will be very disappointing if we do the same or similar this year.

  23. Yep. IU is going to need one to commit because they want to be the ones to turn it around. If this is a basketball decision then it’s Houston by a long shot

  24. Some fans are working themselves up with worry and negative scenarios. Main-stream media and social media get more attention and make lots more noise with shock and anger news and rumors. I follow it for entertainment, but the smoke and mirrors do not trip my trigger until a signed agreement. I, for one, am hopeful and looking forward to an interesting month and a seriously better basketball season. I want a great point guard.

  25. Poster on X: The following schools have been in contact with (fill in the blank). 1. We did initiate a contact and were told the asking $$ and we immediately hung up, 2. We did initiate a contact and were told the player had zero interest in IU or the B1G and we hung up. 3. An agent, parent or other initiated a contact with us and we hung up for whatever reason. 4. Agent, parent or other hinted/implied an IU contact when none really existed. It's to the agent, parent or other's benefit to say, imply, hint that there's been mutual communication to keep interest/demand in the player at a higher level. Not all reported IU/player contacts are necessarily equal.

  26. Two transfers with proven P5 production would be an improvement from last year. Brace yourselves for some money ball folks. We don't need to spend the most to field a competitive team.

  27. exactly how i feel. always told to reset expectations. we've been bad so long. etc. etc. there are plenty of examples of teams down bad that have rebounded. plenty of counters to all the excuses yet we make them to feel better or have hope. I don't care about feeling better. It is what it is to me. Its the reality of things to me. I am frustrated by it, of course. I vent, of course. I've said before and i'll say again, when our results and actions match my attainable top 20 program aspirations I won't be viewed as negative by the board. until then, i probably will. imo, zero reason not to be a top 20 type program. I actually kinda like DeVries but he's so blase as a personality. I think Indiana needs some swagger and some confidence. some recruiting juice. something postive to get the ball rolling. A great season would have done it. Now we are in the same boat we were a year ago. swung and missed on a lot of top 2026 recruits. Got a few middle ranked guys with longterm upside. Now, not able to swing for the fences in the portal. or opting not to. I'm convinced our roster this year will be better on paper than last year but I don't think it'll be the level the program needs to create a spark.

  28. Some of the expectations on here seem just unrealistic. We aren't getting a whole new starting lineup of big splash players. Let's hope Carr and Devries are on the same page and find a competent roster with no glaring holes. Devries has shown he can assemble a solid team and coach. He just has to do it here. With that being said, we have to find the diamond in the rough type guys. In Carr we trust.

  29. I’m not getting into any of “who knows inside info and who doesn’t “ around here. But I will only point out one thing: almost all verified national reporters will be pushing out “inside info” that comes from players agents. Most of that info is just agents trying to pump up their players price. It’s the oldest trick in the book and happens every FA season in the pros in every league. That type of reporting is pretty worthless, imo.

  30. You have no idea what the budget is, or whether there is room to expand it. Whenever a report fits your narrative you give it full weight. When a report cuts against your narrative, you trivialize it. Just chill, dude, and see how things play out.

Have been begging for this structure, though I’m sure it would be sued into oblivion. It would limit some of the Euro professional options. It would punt ridiculous outliers like Baker-Mazara. It would eliminate the JC years not counting nonsense. Would eliminate medical redshirts. Love it. At this point it has to be about age.

  41. Yes, Estrella is a big upgrade over Alexis. 3 inches taller and averaged more points and rebounds than Alexis as a sophomore on an elite 8 team. There's a reason he is a top 25 portal name.

  44. Yeah, this partially explains my crashout last night. But he isn’t the only one I was talking too. The thing is, Lettice and some of the others want to build a certain type of team. It’s not the DeVries type recruit. So, it’s not a total indictment of what we will build it’s just not the type or level of recruit these guys want. But yes, it made me grumpy last night. Lol. As always, I’m not giving up hope yet.

  45. Guys...I'm a planner. Always have been, always will be. I just need you all to come to a consensus whether I should go ahead and book championship parade tickets for next April, or proceed with burning all my IUBB gear in the courtyard of my apartment, stumbling naked screaming obscenities into the unforgiving Indiana wind about Luke Jimenez and Jeff Oliphant. Any help is appreciated thx

  46. 100% -Love ya back and the discussion is spicy and fun! I AGREE… we need to get size, talent, and skill. But $$ spent and high profile acquisitions don’t necessarily equate to those goals; great evaluations and money wisely spent accomplishes that. And if the current staff doesn’t have that skill no bankroll will save them.
    5 points
  47. You have to pay big and get one to bite first. There has to be a couple quality pieces early to set the tone for talent to want to come. If we're sitting here in a week with our 6 current players, Olsen and a low major guard, hang it up.

  48. I tend to agree with you, but this isn't just IU. Kansas and Tennessee rosters are in the same- or worse- position. Over half of D1 college bball players are in the portal. So, I think it's more a systemic issue, than purely IU, we just have 25yrs of mediocrity leading up to it that amplifies the suck.
