  1. The idea that the hottest rock star HC in the country is a slightly cranky 63yo 1st time power conference guy at the losingest program in history takes the term “counterintuitive” to whole new heights. Beyond awesome.

  2. The staff basically wanted him on campus this weekend or they were planning on moving on. He’s not coming this weekend and the staff feels like they can’t waste anymore time. Plus the entire staff wasn’t on board with paying his number so it sounds like they’re cutting bait. Could something crazy still happen? Sure, like it has with Baldwin but I highly doubt that happens.

  3. I’m fine with Tayven, Cherry, or another old dude they get in the portal. Lewis was always a clout play for me and I never really expected an instant on-field impact from him. I do think he’ll be a good player though and it may not hurt to have that relationship in our back pocket in a couple years.

  4. One name I've heard that will be in the portal who might get an IU look is the quarterback from Western Kentucky Caden Veltkamp. He has little better numbers than what Rourke had last season.

  5. He posts as @ap2345 here, and is a very credible poster. One could see this writing on the wall.

  6. A highly successful redshirt sophomore 6’6” business major? That sounds pretty promising.

  7. I think the staff made quite a statement as it is. They told a 5-star QB that we’re tired of messing around and we’ll win without him. People will take note of that.

  8. Everyone assumes Cherry will be the next guy but I don’t know that I’d count out Mendoza either. If he develops at all like his older brother he could be a really good QB. Just throwing out another possibility that sometimes gets overlooked.

  9. I was at the game up close-4th row. I cannot for the life of me figure out what Shay Czeski is good at. Striplin looked slow and glued to the floor-Meister was really really good but Striplin was practically unplayable against quickness. Parrish and Garzon looked like themselves-just a bad shooting night which happens. Chloe? Yikes she looked like a confused freshman. Is she sick or something? We got literally nothing in transition. We have no back to basket scorer and no one that can break down defenses off of the bounce. It was not encouraging.

  10. Going with a freshman, albeit, a talented freshman would be a big risk imo. Trust in Cig and the QB staff tbh. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners

  12. The Cig radio show with Fisch: Fisch: “Coach, this Michigan ballclub comes in 5-4 on the season. Everybody says ‘well, Michigan’s really down.’ But you’ve talked about; they’ve got tools and they’ve got guys that can play. And they’re definitely gonna be ready for Indiana, are they not? Cig: “I can only speak for my team.” The mindset is…Sublime.

  13. I touched on something like this in a thread a year or two ago. CTM was getting (deservedly) a lot of love for turning our program around and into a top B1G program. I said then, that we needed to start competing with and landing bigger recruits to capitalize on the success. A lot of the response was “I trust CTM to find her type of players” and “we don’t need five stars, we need girls who will commit to playing the way CTM wants.” That was all easy to say when we had Grace Berger’s, McKenzie Holmes, Sara Scalia, etc. We’re talking first team all Americans and best 3pt shooters in the country types. My concern then was that we weren’t recruiting like a Maryland, Ohio State, South Carolina, etc. So at some point the success we were having on the court wasn’t going to translate into sustainable success as a program. I still think CTM is a fantastic coach for IU. This team will certainly grow and be competitive this year. But next year losing CMM and Syd, it doesn’t feel like we used our best years as a program with generational talent to set ourselves up to stay there and become a great program and not just a couple great teams.

  19. And that’s where trusting the staff decision-making and leadership is paramount. Prevents us from running into a situation like the basketball team guard rotation last year.

  20. I don’t. Sometimes QB commits at other schools will keep things quiet if possible until they are ready to decommit and flip. That’s what the Clemson commit that flipped to ND did. It came out of nowhere for most people. I can say that the staff is working on it.

  21. I really think my biggest thing is just selfish reasons, honestly. lol Getting a player of his talent and star power ability to IU can make a huge statement a couple of ways. One, it says to IU, "I see you and want be a part of that". Second, ... when other top recruits see a player like him committing to IU, they are also intrigued and would be more apt to come and play with him. JMO....

  22. I blame @rayl456 for the bad news. Let's get 'im guys! If this is true, I'm not too surprised. He's always "too busy" to make a visit which comes off as wishy-washy. I don't think CCC takes that. There are some good QB's on the roster and after the year Rourke is having, I don't think there would be much trouble landing a good QB from the portal if needed.

  23. Eastern Illinois 1-1 on the season losing 112-67 to Illinois and defeating Earlham 97-61. Last year's record was 14-18. Trey Kaufman Renn's high school teammate KooperJacobi is on the EIU roster and averages over 30 min./game on the court. He averaged 10.5 p and 7.7 r last season and 11.5 and 9.0 through 2 games this season. Radio Live Stats

  26. Most teams fail to consider the most important factor when deciding whether or not to foul up 3. That being, will resulting foul lead to a made free throw, thus pushing the point total above the 146.5 O/U line, and cost johnsoniu the tail end of a 5 leg parlay. These things matter:)

  27. Yea I was in Alabama two weeks ago and had 4-5 conversations about Cig and the football team when folks found out I was from Indiana. Our coach is a household name.

  28. Well, I don't think his parents would've needed access to a private jet if he played in Bloomington. Anywho, there are two players in college basketball: players who play at IU and players who don't. Focus on the ones at IU and wish the others well unless they are playing IU. I would say that parents asking that their 18 year highly talented kid gets a ton of compensation (maybe more than they are worth) is the norm and not the exception. Ke'lel Wares are always going to be out there -- kids who asked and got the world (at Oregon) and it didn't pan out and they move on.

  30. This narrative that Woody is some kind of “bad guy” kinda pisses me off. Criticize his coaching? Sure, I get it completely. But anything other than a personable guy that cares deeply about IU, its fans, and its history? That’s a bunch of crap to me.

  31. Nothing I saw last night made me rethink anything about Woodson. Dude isn’t the guy. Doesn’t matter how much talent he has. He doesn’t know what to do with it. We need the AD to knock another hire out in about 6 months is my guess

  36. Outside of both being crazy talented, I’m not sure about the Raiola comp. Lewis is an undersized (I could be wrong, but I don’t buy 6’0.5” or 6’1” for a second) re-class while Raiola is every bit of 6’2-6’3 with plenty of meat on the bone. I don’t see Lewis having the instant impact that Raiola has had. And I don’t want that to be misconstrued as sour grapes from when we don’t get a recruit. Lewis is verrry good, but I’m just not seeing him being a surefire day-one starter. Otherwise I generally agree on your 3 options. I’ll be comfortable with whoever we go into next year with as long as they’re on campus in January to go through the whole offseason as the guy, or competing to be the guy.

  37. Won 19 games without a PG last year. This team is too talented to not figure it out. We’ll be fine. It is also okay to critique the things you didn’t like.

  38. I know that player comps generally suck eggs (a sure intro for me about to be doing one). It seems as though Lewis is a whole lot like Dylan Raiola on Nebraska, who has been pretty damn good as a freshman, and is a five star without optimal NFL size. That gives me a window into how a top ten QB that's immediately thrown into the fire performs. So, the operative questions are (in order of easiest answer): Would we rather have a top tier freshman than Rourke? Clearly no. Would we rather have a top tier freshman than a 3/4 year guy hand selected by Cig/Shanahan/Tino? Probably not. Would we rather have a top tier freshman than a junior Tayven or sophomore Cherry? Yes for Cherry (even though he may be good) and maybe to Tayven. For me that's about a 50/50.
