coonhounds Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Mine is it is a hope and prayer hire. What gives me the most hope is respected posters giving their endorsement! What's your opinion! Sent from my SM-S926U using Tapatalk Home Jersey 1 Quote

hoopsta007 Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 I would like nothing more than to eat crow but I’m afraid we will be hearing about Brad Stevens again in four years. Eagle’s Rug and OliviaPope40 2 Quote
WayneFleekHoosier Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Surprised and generally unimpressed. Jury is out with a Lot to prove. Like the youth and intensity and will always have hope but it lacks swagger. Gonna be a prove it year for him. Let’s see what he’s got. HoosierHoopster Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Consistent 20 and 25 win seasons, built Drake, dude can coach. 49 years old (young). Respected by other coaches. Has shown ability to recruit. A passionate bball guy, energy. Whether he works out in the fishbowl of attention, impatience and expectations that is IU remains to be seen. But this is a pure basketball hire. No IU connection required, it’s a swing but based on proven coaching ability. I like it. Hope it works well and early. Popular Post RaceToTheTop Posted March 19, 2025 Popular Post Posted March 19, 2025 Happy. He's an honest to God college coach who has both tons of experience as an assistant and head coach. Fact that he turned Drake around from being a horrid program to one consistently winning 25 games screams that a guy is a culture changer. Our player culture has sucked the last eight years with players more interested in things off of the court than on. HoosierAloha, Juwan Moye, DougWil and 9 others 12 Quote
NewAlbanyHoosier Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 The hiring feels better than the Woodson hiring. It feels similar to the Archie hiring and a little less exciting than the Crean hiring. Hoping for the best, but prepared to stay in CBB purgatory. BA47591, WayneFleekHoosier and OliviaPope40 2 1 Quote
Trish Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 First off, I have more hope than I did with Woodson. Whether or not Woodson was forced here by QB, I think we can all agree that Indiana doesn’t pull the big names. But we can also say that about Louisville, Ohio State, Kentucky, and Michigan given their last coaching cycles. We’re in a new era of coaching hires. Regarding DD, it’s always a risk when you’re basically hiring a mid-major experienced coach. B12 was down this year, they did alright given injuries. A team that was expected to make the dance but was hosed. DD will need to surround himself with an excellent staff. Hire assistants that know the CURRENT B1G, hit some good names in the portal over the next month, and should hopefully bring in some former Indiana guys to help build the program back up from the ground. Guys such as Jordan Hulls should be retained, Calbert, bring in Cody Zeller. Kory Barnett should be joining the move as well. My expectation next year — make the dance, finish in the top 6 in the Big Ten. If first year head coaches at Michigan, BYU, Kentucky, and Louisville can do it, DD should ideally do it. Disappointing overall, but I can see the potential. This will define Dolson’s career. hoosierfan6157, TadQueasy, Artie86 and 1 other 4 Quote
AH1971 Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 I honestly think Tucker’s health will play a huge role in his dad’s trajectory. He stays healthy, IU is going to be fun as hell to watch next year and that should really energize those with reservations. Alford Bailey 1 Quote
cthomas Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 I'm liking it better all the time. I assumed he was headed for Iowa and we would hire McCollum, who I really liked. This might be a safer hire. Regardless, we will be in a better place than we have been for several years. He is young enough that he can build a consistent winner for a long time. In spite of what some think, there is no s,ure thing out there. I think we are going to be happy. Napleshoosier, Alford Bailey, Home Jersey and 1 other 4 Quote
cbp4iu Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 I think IU wins 23 games next year. I think this hire is a solid B. I hated the Woody Hire. Build around this lineup PG SG Goode (please get another year) Tucker C Napleshoosier 1 Quote
Josh Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 There's a ceiling here. It doesn't feel very high. "Better than Woodson!" Woo hoo. So am I. Very uninspiring hire. Hopefully the pumpers learned from their behavior over the last couple hires. We're not being "negative". You dont need 4 years to tell. Let's see and make our minds up intelligently. And quickly. And without name calling. Here we go. WayneFleekHoosier, BA47591 and MikeRoberts 2 1 Quote

AZ Hoosier Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Pretty happy with this hire. The white whales were not coming. We got a younger guy who knows Xs and Os, who has turned programs around at both Drake and WVa. Indiana needs a turn around, and I think DeVries will be able to get it done. He has a work ethic that far surpasses what we got from Woodson, who has a personality beyond what we got from Archie, and is not manic like Crean. Better days are ahead, and they start today... and will be manifested starting next November. soindianahoosierfan, Dave from Dayton, HoosierAloha and 1 other 3 1 Quote
tkbbn Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 Slightly optimistic at this point. Waiting to see the team he assembles, the coaching staff. Glad to have an X and O guy. Preferred McCollum myself. Will pull for him until it's obvious he can't do the job but hope that he can. Make the tournament almost every year with some deeper runs. BannerVille 1 Quote
akumanina Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 I wanted McCollum more than DeVries, but well DeVries is definitely a winner. I think he's going to build culture here and produce consistent teams year in and year out. In all honesty, I didn't see any of WV games, so I really can't say anything at this point, but I like to trust Dolson's decision. Media guys say DeVries' offensive style is 4 out and 1 in, and his team shoots a lot of threes, so it's more of a modern style that we haven't seen in the last 8 seasons. Should be interesting to see! Quote
hoosierfan6157 Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 He sounds like a Cignetti hire but for basketball. Got much more excited for the hire after reading more about him and the interview by Doug McDermott! Let’s see what DRock can do with all the resources at his disposal at IU!! Hoosier_Hatchet Posted March 19, 2025 Posted March 19, 2025 First hire in this new era of portal AND NIL. DD seems to be organized and have a vision for how he wants his teams to play on both ends of the court. The next month will be interesting to see how he builds a roster. This isn't going to be like Woody was in the portal and just go grab the highest ranked players. There will be a strategic plan with specific skills and traits targeted. Indiana High School coaches will be drawn to DD and look for in state recruiting over the coming years to improve. Trent Sisley fits perfectly in DD's system which helps in that area too. I do think DD is a similar hire to what Kentucky and Louisville pulled in last year and do expect that DD can have a first year at IU like what Pope and Kelsey had this year. Napleshoosier 1 Quote
