You can say he doesn’t deserve it, cool. But now that he has it, I think people will be surprised.  

Man…I’ve had a little of the elbow sauce myself today, but this is a positive take I’m not sure I could square right now. 
 

Believe in a 67 year old coach stuck on a system that is counter to what is successful in college hoops today who has completely fumbled the recruiting bag in part due to lack of effort b/c after 3 years he finally gets it and his competitive fire from over 40 years ago will finally start showing is…..something.

When I think about the amount of money that is about to be spent to hire a GM, and prop up the NIL only to prove that this Sisyphean effort is all in vain, astounds me.

If he doesn’t have an agent I assume he cannot or should not take calls for openings during the season.  But I have noticed FAU is an Adidas school. Would that be a route to ask if he has interest?

Using the portal to its maximum benefit is akin to Moneyball… modern day team management.

Why would that be a bad thing if it brought the results everyone wants?

When we discuss modern day basketball we are talking about playing style such as 4 out and shooting the three.  That's where you are confused.

Is it possible to build a willing team entirely through the portal? Yes, anything is possible.

Is it likely? No. For every team you can point to that was highly reliant on the portal and won, you can point to a number that failed. 

Can Woodson do it? Let's set aside the fact he's failed to land more than one or two decent pieces out of the portal his first 3 tries, and assume that somehow he finds a way to sign 4-5 high level portal transfers.

The problem is still that Woodson has shown no ability to build a roster of complementary pieces. His strategy has always seemingly been to just grab talent and worry about the fit later. So there is no reason to think that he is capable of orchestrating a recruiting campaign that will land 4-5 quality players, while also ensuring that the pieces fit together into a high level club.

At best, he'll put together a mishmash of pieces that can beat the bad to average teams, but gets exploited by quality teams -- like this year -- and they finish 22-10 or so with an early NCAA exit.

Worst case is Michigan 2023-24.

That is a point that continues to be quite interesting.  Dolson hasn't acknowledged it in any way to either say it's accurate or some malarky that it was from an unauthorized source although if he says the latter, Osterman looks like a complete a$$.  At the very least, one would have expected some kind of follow-up authored by Dolson.  Also a little odd that Osterman, Rabby, etc,, haven't seem to pressure Dolson for statements they can quote.

And to add to your point, is whatever happened to the Bob Knight philosophy when he used to go and (recruit) talk to the parents and tell them that his number one job was to make sure the kids get an education and to help them be successful in life. This new fangled approach seems to be only about $$$$, winning and nothing to do with college or academics for the young Highschool players.
Strange that an older Bob Knight protégé would be in this mindset.
