Many good points here and I would say that I too give DD a pass for last season just because of all the things we know that hampered things once he got here and I think he did a good job with the roster that he had. Now with the added GM and all the assistants in place and the money and everything else that is the reason why this is a top 10 coaching job is proof in that he was able to land the players that he did, which I’ve said he’s done a really good job which shows what a good coach can do here at Indiana and I do believe that we are just a few solid backups away from being right on par with those top tier teams. I don’t believe many other teams could get that close in one off-season.

It starts with prioritizing the right players and adding the right amount of depth behind them to be on the Duke/Michigan level and it seems we are comparable in funds. We have started out on the right foot this off season and then just fell off a cliff it seems. Like has been stated… this particular year needs to be the cornerstone of what we build off of for the future and it has to be done all the way imo. If no quality depth is added at least in the post then we will be dragging a$$ yet again down the stretch. I just see no reason to spend 20 mil on this roster and not pull in the finishing touches, which will pay big dividends down the road in so many ways. Hope there is a surprise or two waiting in the wings.

Why can’t we be Duke/Michigan? Self imposed limitations? Just settle for 20 wins and eek into the tournament? I doubt Dusty has any more funds than we do, maybe less for bball, but he knows how to construct a deep tournament roster. We need a good 10 player rotation imo., and proceed like we want to contend for a NC like our other team right next to AH.

I guess I assumed that most deals are 1 yr. That would make sense though.

I think retention is a great thing, but I don't understand how you save money? If players on roster progress, they will want a raise and a big one if they did so good that other schools are willing to enter a biding war. You will always have your 2nd and 3rd tier players that you plan x amount $$ for regardless. Maybe I'm not looking at it right though.

I would think that adding a GM from the NBA to the roster at IU would be shooting for challenging for a NC? This seems like…? i could be happy though with true dogs that leave blood sweat and tears out on every floor.

True, but Dusty seems to know how to get those players like Wolfe that have Big10 size/high IQ type players and have enough depth to keep them fresh enough throughout the season and it looks like he will continue that model going forward. I think it is short sighted to play one Big in this era of college basketball, especially in the B10. It's all about identifying the right players that can work for this system and be competitive in the upper tier of the league. I really do hope that all those years of experience we now have on staff will be able to navigate this and lock down a roster that we can be confident in. It's not over yet so maybe we have some hot irons in the fire for quality depth, but that comment Wayne was talking about that Rabby said we were only looking for practice players to round out the roster doesn't inspire confidence.

Michigan dominated last year because they figured out how to use Lenderborg, Mara and Johnson. Thats a better plan than using one Big in todays game as we just experienced IMO.

I concur…we just can’t wear out our bigs thru the grind of big10 season. Have to have fresh legs with not a lot of drop off.

This sounds like we we’re paying an awful lot of money for minds that should know better. Again, I hope this is not the case, but this is not serious roster construction. Manhurtz is nowhere ready physically to see anytime this year other than mop up.

Hard to believe there’s no rumblings of something..

My fear is that they are putting a feather in their cap for this portal haul and pretty much calling it good. Close to Non playable depth pieces will be the death of next season. Imo Dusty..Michigan figured it out pretty quickly and there is no reason we can’t do the same. It would be nice to go into one season with confidence instead of a bunch of ??? I would really like to see the staff pull in someone like Devin Williams at this late date and I would think we are starting to give ourselves a competitive edge.

These are all good points and things to hope for but if we’re going to be spending $20 million on a roster, we might as well go all the way so that we can make a deep run in the tournament and contend in the upper tier of the big. I know we’re not done yet and so this is just speculation but with what’s left, it’s not looking so great unless they pull a magic rabbit out of a hat, but one can only hope.

This is why I sure hope that we are adding some quality depth in those last three spots because if we aren’t, then our team is going to be dog tired at the end of the games like last season and I would bet that we finish middle of the pack or worse.
