And he's a good coach that can help Woodson with prep/gameplan/scouting, etc. RaceToTheTop 1 Quote

Actually a smart hire! If it goes well and Woody passes his duties to a Lewis or Fife, then we get our program back on OUR track. If it doesn't work out, then the University can say 'Hey we tried to appease a large number of our fan base but the Knight days are over. Time to move on. You guys were wrong.' hoosrnight, Hippopotamo, Red1 and 1 other 4 Quote

Popular Post iu eyedoc Posted March 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 28, 2021 Reposting this for some prospective on CMW's NBA success: Someone give me some context for the Woodson hate. He is a well respected, defensive minded coach that, by the player interviews posted on here seems to hold players( even NBA players) accountable. His record as the Hawks HC overall was mediocre, but the team improved every year to the point of 53-29 in his last season. As Knicks HC, he coached them to their only 1st place finish in the Atlantic division since 1993 and most , wins since 1994. HeII, his 37 wins in his 2nd season are more wins than any NYK team he didn't coach since 2003. He isn't my first choice, but it seems that a lot of dislike for him, much like like for others is just a lot of posters parroting others. I get he would need some strong recruiters, but I don't see the reason for all the angst towards him as HC If I am wrong, I don't watch NBA, so I might well be, please point to what I am missing. hoosrnight, Hippopotamo, ray and 12 others 12 2 1 Quote
Popular Post OKHOOSIER Posted March 28, 2021 Popular Post Posted March 28, 2021 People are hard to please here. Half wanted an IU guy. A bunch wanted Matta or Belein. 36 hours ago it was HIRE ANYBODY WE ARE DROWNING. And now we get an IU guy who can coach (he wouldnt have lasted that long in the NBA if he hadnt forgotten more about basketball than anyone here) paired with Matta being program overlord, and THREE available assistant spots. Those are going to be filled out by other names people wanted, I am sure of it. May not be the ONE GUY HOME RUN, I believe this will be a STAFF/PROGRAM HOME RUN. Capt. Crimson Posted March 28, 2021 Posted March 28, 2021 I think it will be okay.. Woodson probably has contacts with everyone in the NBA.. And now he has Matta as a college bb consultant basically to help fill in the gaps and help with midwest recruiting. Red1 and raorIU 2 Quote

Matta essentially a GM and Woodson having every NBA contact imagineable, means we should be able to recruit right away. Young men will absolutely sit and listen when Coach Woodson speaks. I’m excited. Thad Matta in the program and we still have 3 coaching positions to fill. Bet they are beasts. I don't like this argument of him knowing the NBA. All power 5 college coaches knows the NBA coaches, scouts, GM's, it's basic networking. Quote
