When his was mentioned in the coaching search thread, his name was met with laughs and yawns It's damn near impossible to replace a legend/hall of famer and get the same results. Dude played 12 years in the NBA, coached 25 years in the NBA, the highest level of basketball plus they added Matta. Where did Beard play? Oh he went to one final game and loves Texas. His daughters, and girlfriend is in Lubbock. We got the guy who loves IU I think you hit the nail on the head as to why I am excited. Yea, it may not work, but this time, it isn't a guy chasing a bigger job, or bigger paycheck. MW knows full well what he is getting himself into here, he understands the pain the fanbase has gone through longing for a winner. He knows he doesn't want to fail at his Alma Mater, in his home state. He is here because he loves the place, and it really is his dream job. If IU was really BS dream job, then he would be coming, period. I say fine, stay in the NBA, give me someone who wants it. I keep wondering why no one is mentioning the stones on MW for taking on the challenge. He could have ridden millions in assistant coach or head coach NBA dollars into retirement, but didn't, because this place is special to him, and he knows how special it is to us.. So there’s no need to trust them now that they’ve got you down. As a wise man once said, if it’s inevitable lay back and enjoy it. I love RMK, but that was the most asinine thing he ever said- I have 2 daughters and pray they never have to make that choice. Sorry to dampen the thread, but I just can't... I know we didn't see him play this year, but in the proper NBA system and development, a Lander, Franklin, Stewart backcourt can compete right away. Maybe Iu heard the same thing about beard that UCLA did when they decided not to reach out to Beard. And they had the other old fart before Doherty who tanked the program. Unc begged roy to come home and were lucky they had a tier 1 coach in their ranks. Ucla hired Alford who is an iu guy but wouldn’t make many top 10 lists. And lavin. UK has had a few stinkers even though pitino and now cal were big boy hires. But cal came with baggage and Pitino was a young guy walking into a dead program. Duke has had the same guy for 40+ years. Really, Kansas is the one that seems to nail it every time. We should hire ADs that are KU alums, i guess. IUguy77 1 Quote
