Popular Post P92 Posted March 7, 2025 Popular Post Posted March 7, 2025 Okay, I know nothing, but I’m going out on a limb here. Just read Bozich’s most recent column. I’ve been reading Bozich since he was with the Louisville Courier Journal way back in the 80s. I’ve found him to be discreet, trustworthy, and an IU guy—which means he is kind of a company guy like Don Fischer who has been able to cover IU through the years and not tick administration or Bobby Knight off back in the day. In said column, He goes through all the names we’ve been discussing lately—(with no mention of BS). He gives all the positive and negatives of each—all well and good. Then he says he believes SD is gonna hire someone else, no one is talking about—not on the list he just gave. Okay, fine, some unknown guy? No—- he then describes this guy as a veteran coach looking for a new challenge to rebuild IU. Kent Sterling does a video and says the exact same thing. I know to take Bozich seriously and also know he is connected and values access and won’t cross the athletic department. In my mind, BS just went from a 1-2% likely to better than even odds. Here’s what I think. Reporters trusted by the AD know who the hire is—a small select number. And they’ve been asked to hold the story and just discuss other candidates until a set time—probably once senior day is done and the lights turned out in the Hall on Saturday. No more home games, no need to protect Woodson’s ego after that point. With the terrible risk of sounding like isaacTor, I guess—based on nothing but reading between the lines— that around 8 Saturday night Bozich and a handful of guys that are trusted in the AD will simultaneously start breaking stories about rumors of who this “veteran” coach is. I might be totally wrong, but I think “we got him.” Who else could this veteran guy be? Hardwood83, HoosierSadaseci, JustWinBaby and 26 others 28 1

Hornsby Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 Football is by far the biggest college sport and drives the financial results for the entire athletic dept. Basketball barely moves the needle despite IU really liking basketball. The football hire and how they perform is a very big deal for IU.Nobody gave a crap about football til now. Tons of other coaches like Byington, Wade, etc. that could kill it here also. We’re trying to find the next Billy Gillespie???

I’m curious to see how he navigates the portal building a new team. How will he rebuild? We have no idea because there is nothing to refer back to with McCollum…another reason why he doesn’t need to be coaching here. Losing the majority of his players? -MO Valley player of the year Bennett Stirtz - JR -2nd and 3rd leading scorers will both be gone -4th leading scorer Tavion Banks - JR -5th leading scorer Cam Manyawu - SO -6th leading scorer Isaia Howard - FR -7th leading scorer Kael Combs - SO So, of the top 7 scorers...two will be out of eligibility. Your questions are good ones but it's not accurate to say the majority of his players will be done.
Hornsby Posted March 7, 2025 Posted March 7, 2025 I don't know how he would recruit high-end players. I don't know how he would deal with agents/handlers/player circles/etc. I don't know how much his preferred tempo would increase with better athletes and personnel...I just know that I really like watching basketball and I watch a lot of it and I DO know that I really enjoy watching Drake play and watching Ben McCollum coach.Archie couldn't handle the pressure. Sounds like ever may didn't want it. There are so many more things to this job then just getting it cause you won at division two. And this isn't a take your time rebuild. People aren't going to be patient after the last two hires. He would need to win right away. Has he dealt with high level agents? Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk

I didn't follow it closely and don't invest the time and energy into Football as fan (mostly because I coach HS football and we have players who get recruited by D1, D2, or NAIA Schools so my time is focused on following their careers/ watching their games). But I do remember my initial reaction was happy they hired a sitting Head Coach rather than an upstart Coordinator (like they did with last 2 football hires ......hhhhhmmmmm) thebigweave 1

That's a lot of production and minutes to replace. At this time... He would be a bad hire when we have so many other viable candidates. Hornsby and lillurk 2

Sure it's possible he works out but he could also flame out in a major way. There are plenty of names with proven track records who will most likely work out.Sent from my SM-A146U using Tapatalk

That's kind of deceptive; the 6th and 7th leading scorers for Drake are backup guards that average less than 4 ppg and less than 15 minutes per game. Drake has four players that average over 20 minutes per game. Three of them will be out of eligibility. VFury, cybergates, lillurk and 2 others 4 1
