I understand you want Beard. I'm just trying to tell you it is a tough sell around campus. But I'm tired of explaining it. Time will tell

I don't think IU will hire Beard, but I also don't think popularity among IU's academic staff is going to be any kind of deciding factor. I've been on college BoTs before, and I don't think they always care about how popular the president is. In fact, in one instance, the president was brought in prescisely to "be the bad guy" and enact unpopular policies for the BoT. I have long suspected that Whitten has that kind of role for the BoT at IU.

The votes against Whitten by professors don't really matter right now and hiring a coach that further reduces her popularity won't matter either. Heck, she just got an extension.

However, I agree with the people who factor in Beard's record and baggage that conclude that there are much better candidates.

is biting your girlfriend for breaking your glasses on purpose an appropriate response?

Biting your girlfriend, or anyone, in response to them intentionally breaking your glasses is not an appropriate or healthy response. Regardless of the situation or how upset you may feel, physical aggression is never a productive way to handle conflict. It can cause harm, damage the relationship, and escalate the situation.

If your girlfriend broke your glasses on purpose, it’s important to communicate openly and calmly about how you feel. Express your anger or frustration in a way that encourages understanding, rather than retaliation. Conflict resolution through calm, respectful conversation is always more effective.

If you're feeling overwhelmed by your emotions, it can also be helpful to step away from the situation and give yourself time to cool down before addressing it. Healthy communication is key to maintaining trust and respect in a relationship.

Breaking glasses in one thing . . . breaking balls is another.  Not excusing Beard's actions; merely pointing out there are two sides to every story and Beard did report she went after his "private parts".

They certainly didn't care about the popularity of the head basketball coach last year lol

getting drunk like he still does in Oxford

Why would a millionaire coach go get drunk in campus bars? Why aren't there pics online of him doing this, like the Urban Meyer stuff? Shouldn't there be proof out there that it's actually happening?

Why should we care what a bunch of soy boy professors think? We are trying to win games here.

Lol for real. If I’m looking for input on a basketball coach (or many other things), the college professor bloc is probably the last place I’m looking. The fact they’re trying to remove Whitten says it all.

Agree with this too. I would be highly surprised if it’s Beard
Especially after one poster went crazy and threatened to pull his donation. Man that was pure entertainment last night reading his posts.

Lots of agent stuff flying around right now. Lots of people in IU circles are saying different names and some are saying different candidates are done. Scott has hired like 5 different coaches in the last week if you listen to every single rumor.

It may have been you when this started who said there would be a lot of misdirections and denials…

Last word I will say on Beard: if you make a hire that is one that is going to be ride or die, you want to make sure that you can ride with and still die.

I have no feelings towards beard one way or another. Its not my job to judge others I will let another posters be judge and jury. But if it the options came down to either beard or a risky mid major I'd take the beard risk every single time. If we can get a guy like drew it's a non issue but if we can't.
