His X’s and O’s I assume are good but can he recruit with money he’s provided? I have zero desire for him to recruit most of the players he has at Northwestern as I’d want him to shoot much hire but there is no proof he can’t cheat recruit those high end players and that’s why I’m skeptical of him.

NW is an academic school.  He has a very limited pool of players he can even hope to recruit.

Has Collins considered or been considered for other jobs? Seems like he’s done enough at NW for other schools to kick the tires. Maybe he just likes the job. I can’t remember any noise around him for other openings.

Eyeballing his business dealings, he seems like a $200M+ range dude.  Big car dealers all seem to make a fortune.

He appears to commit a lot to IU.  Great to have him in the stable of big donors!

Just proof that cars are way overpriced.  :)

Loyola Chicago had a big car dealer as a supporter.   Built them an arena and everything.

Because they did and so did Louisville.

Been thinking about Beard a bit the last couple of days and I think dude could be at Ole Miss for a while. How many jobs are out there that: 1) are really gonna seriously consider him, 2) have an AD that is either in enough trouble to take the gamble or so secure that they can, 3) have a culture that would make him a sell to their money guys, and 4) are a job Beard would consider a real step up. I can’t think of many situations like that. He wouldn’t be in play at UNC or KU. Oregon if Altman retires? Can’t see that. Florida if Golden moves up? Maybe, I guess, but I doubt it. If OSU moved on from Diebler? Would he view that as a step up? The 1 job I keep landing on, assuming he keeps himself together, is Arkansas when Cal retires, but that’s probably 3 years out. Really not sure what’s out there for him.

Not sure about other jobs, but NW is basically home for him.  Kids in school, etc.

Yeah but it seems Dusty would prefer to be at Michigan than Indiana

That may end up being true. But I would also think signing the extension, making those statements, and then later “changing your mind” to take your dream job for an offer you can’t refuse is way more comfortable than not signing the extension and having to constantly deal with the speculation as he’s trying to close out a potentially very successful season.

I think he was going to be the next coach at Arkansas before they got wind that Cal might be an option. You’re probably right - that might be his ceiling for now. But as time passes and if he stays out of trouble that could definitely change.

By all accounts it was a positive meeting, but why is that even happening? Given how Woody is acting behind the scenes this was an absolute shock. Trying to understand how that fits into this whole landscape

Probably wanted another Florida golfing trip on IU's dime before he leaves.

This is what Dusty said just after signing a 10 year extension at FAU….

"I love it here. I love our players, I love our staff, and the only thing I've been focused on since the beginning was doing the best job for our team," May told CBS Sports two days before FAU played in the Final Four. "I was doing my job and I never had any intent of leaving."
