Nice little segment of the seniors coming off the floor. Makes you think, think about the years past coaches and players….we had several players get in trouble off the court and a few personalities that were crappy. Not this team. This is probably one the cleaniest crews we’ve had in some time, and most likable kids we’ve had the pleasure of putting on the uniform, no bad talk on Twitter, no putting down the fan base during a speech, no lazy play . Just wore the IU uniform with pride and actually hustled their tails off, and represented the university well! Go IU!19 points -
How Is Darian Devries Doing?

Honestly, neither would matter. We’re likely looking at 14-15 new players on the team next year. This was a one year project. It didn’t work. We didn’t build momentum for next year or develop a couple guys for a sophomore jump. This season of Indiana basketball was just this season of Indiana basketball. And now it’s over. Really never felt a connection to this team in any way. It was mediocre basketball played by players who I barely got to know, and will not remember in six months That part hurts to admit. It hurt seeing balconies empty all year. Hurt that we didn’t have a brand of basketball that was interesting. Probably watched the fewest games in a season in my 35 years as an IU fan. I just hope they can get my attention back somehow next year. Because losing interest in one of the things that has been a part of your identity and a source of hope and sometimes joy, feels weird. I just want them to make me care. We’re at a point where that would be an achievement.17 points -

One day left of radiation treatment! Also, this is 1000000% MUST WIN. Very literally can't lose this. Honestly need to win by 15+ and have full control of it. Not only would losing to such a garbage team be incredibly embarrassing, but it'd put quite the hamper on any March possibilities.16 points -

Punting work today and hitting the Missouri Valley Conference qtrs. The friend I’m going with and knows way more about that conference than I do, gave me 3 names to watch for portal purposes: 1) Sam Orme(Belmont)- Carmel kid who’s busted out this year pretty good. Averaging 13 and 5 on 38% from 3. 2 years of eligibility. Given the 2 ‘26 kids, Dorn and, presumably, Sisley can’t imagine a 6’7” wing shooter would be a high priority, but who knows. 2) Jaquan Johnson(Bradley)- averaged 17 and was 1st team all conference and 1st team all defense. Averaged more steals than to’s. 2 years of eligibility. Since Norton was there he feels like at least worth checking into. 3) Drew Scharmowski(Belmont)- The one I really want to see. 6’10” and apparently possibly still growing. Averaged 11/6 with a block and a steal in 19mins a game and was 1st team all conference and 1st team all defense. 2 years of eligibility. My friend loves him. Says he’s a straight up winning player. At minimum, anyone coached by Casey Alexander absolutely knows how to play. That guy is as good a developmental coach as there is. Should be fun.13 points

This season has been fine/solid/good enough: First year of a new coach sitting at 18-12. Bubble tournament team - currently 50-60% likely to get in. A bunch of very likable players - Sam Alexis, Enright, Lamar especially for me. Incoming recruiting class for next year is already strong. Finally playing modern offense. First time in eight years for that. Much of the program buzz is gone because for decades we have been a middling program, we aren't exceeding expectations, and because the fan base is understandably much more into our undefeated national championship football team. But overall? This is better than the past two years of Woodson and pretty much all of the Archie era.13 points -

Anyone that knows this program, knows the most likely scenario this week. - We beat NW or PSU and look good doing so. - There will be excitement that follows the next 24 hours about the possibility of beating Purdue and making the NCAA Tournament. - We proceed to lose to Purdue (and it probably won't be close).11 points -

So I will ring in here, I think it was fed up after Woodson and at a certain point, you could tell this team just isn't built to do the "it" we want it to. They are about at their ceiling right now which is to squeak into the tournament and probably be one and done. They are still in a position to do that but honestly you kind of look around at the programs in our area and after just seeing a national title run in football and sitting around watching 19-12, 8 minute scoring drought, can't defend very well basketball just isn't that exciting. We have been "rebuilding" for 10 years and frankly the program is just stale. The crowd was stale. The play was stale. There is just no juice, like it doesn't even really excite or bother me too much while watching the games anymore. I was all in on the football team during the CFP run and when I contrast it to this it is the difference between being invested and watching out of habit and nothing better to do. And when the bulk of the team is going to be gone next year, you aren't even watching for the future. The argument we have heard the past 10 years is that the fan base has held the program back with our negativity and we all just need to shut up and go away for awhile until they get things cooking again. They are getting their wish. Twitter was about as docile after a disaster like last night as I have ever seen out of the fanbase and that wasn't because of understanding, it is apathy.11 points -

You need roster retention. Can’t go out and buy 11-12 new players and rely on freshman every single season. Dorn and Sisley are absolutely pieces you need to keep. How much they play and what kind of role they take on largely depends on their development, especially in Sisley’s case, but you don’t want to get in the habit of throwing 12-13 new faces together every single year. You need some level of continuity.10 points

I put my trust in several coaches who have said to my face that they see the system will work when better players are there. Certainly, over fans on here who don't know the game at that level. Also DeVries has admitted his mistakes in last week, which is a lot more than I can say about either of the two previous regimes. If things are this bad at this time next yr, have to cut bait immediately. However, cannot judge the staff on this roster of mid-major All Stars. They certainly deserve blame for putting THIS roster together, but need one more chance in my mind to see what they can do with correct talent. The bottom line is West and Martinelli have more complete games than anyone on Indiana's roster. Love the hustle of Reed Bailey and Conor Enright but reality is they have no business on a Big Ten floor and that is where our problems begin. Also parts of our fan base who want Dolson fired for bringing us a national title in football because god for bid we are mediocre at basketball need to have their head examined. Yes, we need to fix this basketball program, but fans attitude of men's basketball is only thing that matters has got to stop if we want to stay as a high-major team across the board. Football is the driver and that's the reality. Abandoning every non-elite team in every other sport and wanting coaches fired immediately when they fall out of top-25, is part of problem. While I think our fan base gets branded as 'toxic' unfairly for most part, there are corners off it who need to look at what they like about IU. If it's basketball only, and not any team with a Hoosier logo you may need to reevaluate. The national media may know less on a day-to-day basis, but has no bias said IU would be 10th in Big Ten and miss tourney and roster was not talented enough. They were right unfortunately. Definitely not happy as a whole. However, DeVries ran out of answers this season after teams adjusted no matter what he tried. It's ok to be disappointed but don't overreact.9 points -

I'll take the other side of that prediction. I think he'll be remembered for the IUFB transformation and 16-0 National Championship season. It's probably the best story in college sports history. IUBB stunk long before Scott took over, so what's happening isn't new. I guess if he ends up needing to hire two more MBB coaches and he flubs those hires, and IUFB falls off... maybe the MBB struggles start to be more top of mind when it comes to him. That would be grim. We'll know in 10 years or so...9 points

I don't disagree with your line of thinking here. If we really are spending top 10-15/25, then having the somewhere between 40-45th best team is unacceptable long-term. I agree NIL has to be factored into the discussion. With all of that said, when looking at this season I think you also have to handicap that the roster had to be built 100% from scratch with a completey new staff. That part has to factor in as well. That's why the bar should absolutely be raised for next year. While they're not great, we'll have some guys returning and the staff is fully in place. I've been pretty happy with his actual coaching, but I do have big concerns on how DeVries pulls this off next season. He is going to need to land a massive haul in the portal, and it will need to be a big upgrade over last offseasons portal haul. I'm not sure he can do it? It's a tall task given what IU has been the last decade.9 points
