  1. If rumors are true, it sounds like Ryan Carr hit the ground running. Was told he was doing some nice work already. Person didn't name names but said Carr had several high-major players interested in IU, with a couple ready to sign. Time will tell if that is true or not.

  2. And that's why I am reasonably sure that we had a truly top of the top guy that felt that way about IU, but we were a year too late to get him.

  3. For me it’s because I’m not jealous of what some other first year coach did. Especially one that went 10-10 in conference and lost 6 of 8 heading into the post season. His success of failure has 0 effect on how optimistic I am about IU improving. Personally I don’t care for his style of play and afrer watching every Iowa conference game and most the non conference I don’t feel it will translate to winning big consistently against the upper tier teams. His style will muck it up enough to slow down the favorites however I don’t think they can string together enough wins against upper level teams to be a national champion threat for D1. Just my opinion.

  5. Lots of coping about this being as good as Iowa will ever be... McCollum is the real deal.

  6. Why would he want to come to IU and have to deal with a fan base that wants to make the tournament? Those expectations are insane, it's only a 68 team field.

  7. Wherever and whenever he goes IU will fire CDD the following year. Those are the rules I’m sorry

I'm not getting my shorts in a knot over McCollum vs DeVries yet. I have seen to many instances where the one who appears better in the beginning, is worse in the end or both end up being equally good by the time its settled. McCollum could be the much better coach, but I'll judge that down the road and not on one year from both. In the meantime, good for Iowa and the Big Ten for their performance this year.

  9. Agree on the roster building. We absolutely need a top flight PG. That is a must. Can't "Enright" or "Conorway" that position. Get a long, athletic big, and then surround those guys with dogs, athletes and playmakers. Add a shooter or two around them. This offseason needs to be a big swing. Were like an NBA team that's in the play-in every year. At some point this program needs to make a leap and get some momentum. It's needs to happen.

    IUWBB - News and Notes

Taking a step back and looking at this season, the overall health of the program.... The big ten was absurdly loaded this year... We only lost one game all year to a non tourney team-- @Purdue. We beat 3 tourney teams-- Nebraska, Gonzaga, and Oregon... Of our 14 losses-- 10 of them came against teams who one, at least, one NCAAT game. Of our 14 losses-- (probably) 7 of them will come against teams in the Sw16. All the while losing your 2nd best player for a huge amount of the season... You will hopefully bring back a very nice, young nucleus to build around with experience (MM, Beaumont, Caffey, Noyan, and Zania) coupled with the 4 FR....

  22. This one might be fun if it comes together: Both KU Twitter and the one KU board I pay some attention to seem convinced that Kohl Rosario is going to portal and they are not happy about possibly losing him. Had an IU offer from the current staff as a ‘26 and then classed up to go to KU and then didn’t play a lot. Had a good game today. Is a really talented kid who’s received KU coaching for the last 9 months and who would have 3 years left. Maybe nothing but would be a very, very interesting possibility if true.

  23. Wow is right. Good analysis by BTB. I told my son what Stuhoo said. Can’t trail Stirtz on that play. Terrible decision by Fland set the whole thing up. I don’t hate McCollum. I guess I like the Mcs. Because I like McCasland too. I wanted McCasland knowing he wasn’t coming North. IQ wise, McCollum is light years ahead of DeVries and we might be cooked. Lol I was on record not wanting McCollum. (Because I wanted a big name) I still feel that way to be honest but he’s a great coach with a lot of fight. Damn. He didn’t want us, I don’t want him. Lol

  25. He's certainly got his program in much better position than Indiana's! Money isn't everything. Lol... the guy who is doing more with less. Going to the second weekend and knocked off the #1 seed defending champs on that shoestring budget of his. You think his recruiting is only going to get worse at Iowa compared to the D2 school he was at after putting Stirtz in the NBA? We will see. I wouldn't bet against the guy.

  27. I played D2 and it can be easier at that level, depending on how the school supports it program. I know nothing about the school McCollum was at, but I can tell in the conference I played in the scholarship money was extremely uneven. Some schools had a roster of full scholarship guys and other schools might have 2-3 full ride guys and then have to disperse the rest amongst the roster. It's a huge advantage. The top teams in each conference would almost always have 2-3 D1 transfers. My senior year the best team in our conference had 3 D1 transfers, one of which was a 6'9 250lb center who was Newcomer of the Year in his D1 conference the year before. Got into some trouble and had to transfer down. If you have a financially supported D2 program, it can be like having the most NIL money at the D1 level. You can stack your roster and almost walk into the D2 Tournament each year. Again, I don't know how McCollum's program was supported. I'd guess pretty well. I'm also not suggesting his D2 National Titles were easy and not impressive.

  33. Fair but I would love to be selling, "I went to the Sweet 16 in my first year" when I go to the portal as opposed to "Well, if you ignore what happened last year, this is my vision..." That doesn't mean the race is over by any means but it does get awfully tiring that we always need "X" years to get things done when all of these other programs in our orbit, many of whom we used to regularly dog walk, can get things going right away. It has gotten to the point where I f---ing hate the month of March. Just a long and sustained kick to the nuts every year.

What an atrocious defensive structure by Florida. I don’t get what they thought were trying to take away. Not taking away the guy you knew was gonna get it and not only that, allowing him to use an innocuous screen to receive it on the dead run with his defender in a trail position and creating practically speaking a straight up fast break opportunity. That was bad bad.

  40. Personally I think Darian Devries would be the best option for UNC. He has a decent buyout but if you look at his record at Drake, his calm demeanor, and infamous nickname it is clear to see he is the right fit for the job.

  41. And what did that 4th season you argued for accomplish? It was pointless to retain a failing 66 year old coach. Very little upside, just a wasted year.
    4 points
  42. I’d be tempted to overspend a little on the starting 5 and then roll with the freshmen and the 3 that we are thinking stay as the bench. Won’t be a deep team but the freshmen will get valuable experience and sets up well for year 3, while having the best possible starting 5 this coming year.

  44. The roster construction excuse seems to have been bought hook, line, and sinker by the majority of the fanbase, so I expect them to keep leaning on that heavily until next season. But what no one has really answered yet is why we completely melted down the last part of the season. After beating a bad Oregon team we went 1-6 with our only win being a bad Minny team at home. I didn’t expect to win at Illinois or Purdue but we were completely listless setting a 50 year margin of loss record at Purdue. Lost twice to Northwestern and didn’t really get close at OSU. Almost every single one of those games had a tourney birth on the line. Both NW games were known to be near tourney-birth games and we just laid down like dogs in the second half each game. Ohio State wasn’t much better and a tourney birth was on the line. Are we blaming the lack of effort and urgency on the roster too?
