Why did you think this? Family member works with Conwells dad and never got this impression fwiw.

lmao that's hilarious tbh. Hes from Indiana and played college basketball in Indiana, he was interested in coming home. hindsight Louisville out bid him way more than anyone thought where nothing else mattered.

Lo yea it’s hilarious! I guess you knew better than his dad who my son works with every day at IPL. Lmao!

Were you on the record at the time saying this? I don't recall.

RE: squabbling about projections/guessing where someone is going to commit.

These days it’s  nearly impossible to know where a kid is going until the papers are signed.

If I was a player I could honestly tell those around me that I was going to sign with IU but….all the sudden my agent calls to say that xyz offered an extra $500,000 for next year or perhaps a player that plays my position unexpectedly signs. Maybe those things sway me, maybe not.

I think the hindsight is more that "interested in coming home" actually meant Louisville, not Indiana.

Didn't it come out after his commitment that his grandfather had been a big Louisville fan and used to take him to Louisville games?

Yeah he called Louisville area his second home because all his dads family is over there.   Kelsey also reached out to him last year after he got the job but the timing didn’t work out.   Louisville is close enough to be considered a local team for him.

....this just reaffirms this whole process that Coach DeVries has been taking since he was hired.

It's a stark difference than what we have been used to.

This guy really cares and is NOT just picking ANY player or ANY assistant coach. He is building a well oiled machine.

Reminds me of the ending of the Gottlieb video in another thread.  IU hasn't had the coaching, continuity, or the chemistry that is needed for success in the last several years.  That looks to be his main goal which I say is very much needed.
