Probably because it’s more about the money than anything else.doesn’t take long to find out how much money you can make.

DD will need to be able to win recruiting battles against other top schools to succeed at IU. Tucker, while a great player, tells us nothing about DD’s ability to win those battles because he’s DD’s son. If he had a different last name then of course the feeling around here would be a lot different because it’d be a big recruiting win and a sign of DD’s recruiting chops, rather than a kid following his dad.

Yeah he’s being very meticulous, which is 100% good. 
But it’s clear he wanted Conwell. Hopefully we didn’t lose him to UL because DDv didn’t want to match a 400k difference in NIL. 
 

Having a top-rated transfer class is important given he was able to achieve that last year and our empty roster. I trust him completely to not just throw $$ at “stars” like Woody.

 Having TDv hopefully healthy for the whole year already raises our floor—kid is obviously a helluva player.

He's lost a single portal battle for a player who I don't think is all that enthralled with IU to begin with. Conwell's been offered plenty of money to attend IU spanning two different staffs and has chosen elsewhere both times. I want guys that want to be here. Period.

Louisville flipped their roster last cycle.  0 of those transfers were in the transfer portals top 75 in the rankings

I’m guessing his dis-interest in previous cycles was motivated heavily by the coach and offensive philosophy. It’s been negatively recruited against repeatedly and I’d estimate we’ve lost several guys because of it. No way to really know though of course.

Perhaps. But I also don't think Conwell has ever cared for IU either. If IU wasn't throwing a bunch of money in his face, I doubt he'd even consider. Not every kid from Indy dreams of playing for IU, especially ones that are 18-22 years. Both of Conwell's parents are Purdue alums.

Good point AH1971, maybe  he grew up hearing lots of negative IU chatter similar to a lot of Purdue sentiment on here and he’s biased against IU.

Make no mistake about it, DeVries wanted Conwell and wants Dix (pause). Conwell was a miss, but the kid has never liked IU. Grew up in a Purdue household and even being an Indy kid, putting 'INDIANA' across his chest has never meant a thing to him. 

Dix wants to come to IU, but has some family things that are far more important and could win out in the end. 

It's all about the system and who fits. Grabbing the top names mean nothing if they don't fit the new system, and what I love about DeVries is he isn't willing to waver or make exceptions to that. 'The process is the process.' Let is play out. We should be announcing our new assistants this week, and a couple talented players will be following them soon after. We will have a roster that fits by late-April

This is an important list for all of us to keep in mind. I have a feeling if we had Louisville or UK’s transfer classes last year we would all be very underwhelmed and skeptical.

Crazy seeing Tonje, Oweh, Donaldson down there but yeah—so much of this is about fit. 
FWIW UK had a stacked class last year (by rankings)
