I simply don’t believe that anyone who doesn’t have a vested interest in Woodson sticking around believes he’s the right guy. He’s failing at every facet of the job.

Woodson is 66 years old. I have to assume there was going to be a cycle to replace him sooner than later that has or will be discussed. 

I'm not talking about his system failing or his coaching acumen. I think IU should start this cycle and if elite coaches don't want the job, then you hire Schertz or may before another program does and start fresh

I think IU doesn't want to replicate the failure of hiring an Archie Miller but Miller was considered a home run hire when it was announced. It was just the wrong guy, with the wrong personality, with the wrong system. I believe the other two have better systems and much better personalities to handle the job

Say for the sake of argument we give him 3 more years.  What is your confidence level that with that time he is able to do anything better than a first round flame out in the tournament?  I am not super confident.

He is going to get at least one more year to shut everybody up.  However, he isn't going to be able to just roll in with the attitude he has shown to date and have things go well.  This isn't an easy job and the name Mike Woodson and Indiana doesn't mean what he thinks it does.  He can't be on autopilot this off season.  His @$$ needs to be out recruiting.  His assistants don't develop anyone so he better be doing it or getting himself a whole new slate of bench coaches.

I don't think it matters whether Woodson gers no more years, 1, 2, or 3.  He isn't the guy.  Keep him for 3 more years of mediocrity and piss poor play like we have seen, without 2 NBA draft picks (one of which he was forced to play in a different position because of injuries) and I think this program will be broken anyways.

We aren't getting a top dude in here.  There are some up and coming guys who appear to maybe have "it".  I would much rather see an actual program being put together by one of those dudes which lays a foundation for the future then to spend 3 more years doing a reset every year because Woodson doesn't know WTF he is doing at the college level and he is too old and set in his ways to learn any differently AND he doesn't have the time to "grow" into the job.

Goodman was Archie's butt boy.  I don't give a sh** what he thought was going on.  Trying another young mid major would have been better than what we did.

the narrative IU and Woodson passed on Smith is lazy but easy to spin.    IU was recruiting him they just happened to fire the staff that was recruiting him 

From what I remember, Miller and company were recruiting him (at least watching his games and getting visits) but never actually offered. Did they offer?

No.  Roberts was really pushing for an offer but it never happened.

Nope he like every high major team had not offered at that time.   Then miller got canned.  Personally I think he would of offered but never know now

My biggest gripe with the Woodson hire was that despite being a coach for a long time, he had no history of winning or exceeding expectations at his stops. 

Take Harbaugh at Michigan. He had a rough start, even most UM fans thought he'd have more success early on. But they stuck with him because he had already shown he can win at an elite level, such as Stanford and in the NFL.

So all they had to do was be patient and optimistic he was the guy to turn it around, because he HAD turned it around before.

Look what happened there. Lo and behold wins the conference twice and a national title. 

This is not the case with Woodson. He's 66, hadn't been a head coach in over a decade, and even when he was, won 46% of his games.

If he had been a coach more recently and took a ragtag group of NBA journeymen to the Eastern Conference Finals twice over a 3 year period, then I could look at that and say "ok, let's give him more time so maybe he can do that here."

At this point in his career, he is what he is. And he's in over his head.

Crean was not canned for not winning a national championship, I can assure you of that.

Crean was manic and his results fit his up/down personality. The administration did hamstring Crean though imo, and that’s a shame.

Archie was a goofy hire. Big swing and miss. Indiana should be swing for someone with his brothers accolades without the FBI on their heels.

Woodson was strange too, but I can see why they were trying to unite the fanbase. Would have been a cool story had it worked out.

If we ever take ourselves seriously and pay the best candidate maybe get over the proverbial hump.

Indiana was not willing to do the things necessary to be on equal footing in recruitments in those days. At least not to the level Crean would have liked. Crean likely has a long list but this one was the most obvious watching his recruitments.
