Candidate Thread: Brad Stevens (Boston Celtics)

I believe that they would still own his rights.  What they could want from IU is $$$$$ to release him unconditionally so if he ever goes back to the NBA, they don't own his contract.

That's not Indiana's battle to fight. If he's free to coach college, that's the only thing that is germane to this discussion. If the Pacers or Heat or Lakers want him to coach in the NBA after he's done at Indiana, let them pony up and negotiate with Ainge or his successor.

Why should Indiana or Dolson or any other person/entity that is NOT the NBA care about who owns his NBA coaching rights?

I know a lot hate him but Dakich said he’s about 60% sure. Stevens will be the next coach

Fair, I’d say I’m about 75% sure based on what I’ve read here. I’d think everybody is generally pretty optimistic at this point and it’s saying A LOT that neither the Celtics nor IU have come out and denied these rumors.

I´m not usually so lucky, but I call those favorable odds. What I see big picture is that this is literally a once in a LIFETIME opportunity for an Indiana guy to ¨be promoted¨ within his home state and lead the Hoosiers. I don´t see CBS as a gambler per say, so why leave a guaranteed royalty? Unless you truly don´t want it, in which case, this thread wouldn´t be nearly as lengthy as it is.

Already getting the “CBS” fired up. Confused me at first but love it.

It's Indiana!  It's Indiana.

I joke (kind of) but IU can certainly recruit itself.  This isn't Wyoming, or Wichita State, or some place you really have to sell recruits on.  They know Indiana.  They know it's a big time program with lots of exposure.

I just don't see a lack of transfers as any kind of proof that we're getting Brad Stevens.  The other stuff makes me very optimistic,  but this is specious reasoning imo.

I think that's what most national pundits just don't get it about the 'Brad Stevens to IU' thing. They don't understand the 'Indiana' connection and loyalty. Dakich said it right on his radio show. Things are just different in Indiana. A coach has to have deep understanding of the state and the IU basketball to succeed.
