You make it sound like Danny was doing something wrong?

The NBA isn't college. NBA teams can't poach other NBA teams coaches. The pick the Celtics got for letting their coach who was under contract go was completely reasonable.

I actually didn't really make a judgment on whether it is right or wrong.  Danny Ainge is a shrewd negotiator and he is not going to let anything of value go for free.

Ok, my bad. Your use of the phrase "the Celtics forced the Clippers..." came off as if you were implying the Celtics were doing something unreasonable or wrong.

They did Doc and the Clippers a favor. The Celtics didn't want Doc to leave, but Doc expressed he didn't want to be part of a rebuild.

No worries.  I used the word "forced" because it had honestly not been done before.  Most teams are willing to voluntarily release a coach without asking for something from another team in exchange.  I think Indiana may be running into Ainge wanting something in return for Brad.  I am not entirely sure that Ainge would be allowed to prevent Brad from coming to IU without an unconditional release.  I would have to believe that Brad would have one hell of an anti-trust suit if they tried to pull those shenanigans.

First time poster here, and considering I haven’t gotten any work done all day refreshing this page and Twitter, I figured this was something for which it is worth creating an account:

I don’t know who the bozo is (“University of Indiana”), and he deleted this tweet within seconds. But my heart damn near exploded out my chest upon reading. This is just mean if you ask me.

Going on the fly here, but I can't think of an instance of an NBA team just releasing their coach who they want to keep and is under contract, so that he could go sign with another NBA team?

I can't imagine Ainge is trying to get something from IU.

Do you mean can’t imagine he’s not?

I actually only know of two instances where an NBA coach has ever been traded to another team.

“University of Indiana” really grinds my gears. There’s a reason it’s called IU

This always bugs me too, but has anyone ever thought how weird it is that (get ready for this doozy of a sentence) we are the only state university that puts the word "university" after the state when the word "state" is not in the university name? I.e. Every other state's universities use the naming convention of University of Michigan and Michigan State University, for example. Can't think of any other state that does it the way Indiana University does. We are special. Also, this is not for this thread. But I've already typed it. Mods should delete.

Yes, but they do call the University of Kansas KU, and the University of Oklahoma OU...

Or maybe it's just a Big 12 thing :)
