Indiana is a better job than Florida and it’s IU‘s job to make that clear. If IU can’t make the case to someone qualified then again, that’s just incompetence. You can have mid NIL and salary and play in a FedEx warehouse or you can have top level NIL and salary and play in a limestone cathedral. It is public knowledge that IU has top shelf money for both coaches and players, that we have a great arena and there is prestige (though fading) to the job. IU needs to do better at hiring basketball coaches. It’s literally their job and it will be their fault (not the fans’) if they hire another dud. Other than a giant bag of money compared to UF bball (for now), what makes IU currently a better program? UF has an excellent on campus arena. A better conference. A better team. Multiple more recent National Championships. More cache with players. More guys in the NBA at a high level. A #1 seed and the best team in the nation for over a month. Great weather and a campus that is very similarly beautiful to IU. We have a better football team. We have potential. They have realized their potential. We hope to be like them. They are them. Oh, and they identified a very bright young mid-major coach; something we could have done four years ago with Gates, or can do this time with McCollum, Huss, Murray, etc. Just gotta pick the right one. jonz44, DougWil, go iu bb and 6 others 9

Or it could be that some insiders or some people who get updates from insiders sometimes get a little excited and suggest more has been agreed to/finalized/etc. then really is at the time.

I would tend to think we could have our pick. I think it's DeVries for 3 reasons: 1) I'm not entirely sure McCollum wants the IU job and could be perfectly content staying at Drake. His end game could be the Iowa job knowing Iowa very likely cannot afford DeVries nor meet certain financial demands. Who knows - maybe it's the IU job he covets. 2) Personality. Simply put, I think DeVries is a better fit when you consider everything the job entails. I do however believe BM is the better coach. 3) The info leaked a few days ago that suggested BM was a serious candidate for the IU job and Scott was highly impressed or something to that effect. I initially thought that was agent driven but now I'm not so sure... I now believe that a certain AD was sending a clear signal to the DeVries camp to sh*t or get off the pot, talk to your Iowa buddies and make a decision or "we'll go all in on BM." I also think you could do a role reversal here and use the two names interchangeably on most of what I just said lol Jeff Flabjohns, Alford Bailey, HoosierSadaseci and 11 others 12 2

Popular Post BA47591 Posted March 18, 2025 Popular Post Posted March 18, 2025 DeVries doesn't sound like the "Dolson has his guy" 3 weeks ago rumor. He sounds more like, "I gave a list of traits to a search firm and they spit out 6 names and I've been turned down 3 times." This sounds like maybe Quinn didn't hijack the hire in 2021, maybe he really did have to jump in and pull Woody out of his a55 at the last second. Nope, I'm still expecting James Bond late this week. That’s the world we live in. UF has about no shot to lure away a player from IU that IU wants to keep. IU could pull one off UF. Just like we did to Arizona. And Wash St and Stanford. And Illinois. Or Duke did to national runner up Purdue. Just the money. That’s all that matters. To the coaches who haven’t figured it out yet, they will. If they’re having trouble they can pick up the phone and ask Jay Wright or Tony Bennett. Or Matt Painter. Yesterday’s success won’t keep your kids around. Just the money. Hell even the SEC football teams are learning the lesson after back to back B1G titles with some expensive UM and OSU teams. If IU doesn’t screw this hire up they’re sitting in a similar spot with their current spending levels on basketball. wirenuts, 8bucks, JPCIVOP and 3 others 6

No one will ever convince me Woody didn’t think he could do well here and be a good coach. I’ll go ahead and assume his intentions were pure. Unfortunately, reality is a cruel mistress. The problem with wanting to do it is that it requires effort. Woodson had to be told to go watch Mullins in a sectional game. Woodson wanted the job, but had no interest in doing the job. You will never convince me otherwise. He was all in to coaching by osmosis. JPCIVOP, go iu bb, Class of '66 Old Fart and 2 others 5
