  1. The kid shot 45% on almost 8 attempts a game last year. You might want to give it a minute.

  2. Here's a nugget for the group. When Foster was fired, UCLA brought in a guy named Noel Mazzone as an offensive analyst. Mazzone is a long time assistant coach at all levels and a highly respected offensive mind that is also described as one of Jerry Neuheisel's mentors. If you listen to UCLA folks, they give Mazzone a TON of credit for this stretch of wins and the complete turnaround of their offense, while babyface (and suuuuper personable) Neuheisel gets all the media for it. Guess who was the NC State offensive coordinator in 2003 when Curt Cignetti was the QB coach and also likes to (rightfully) take credit for Philip Rivers' march to the NFL? Noel Mazzone.

  5. I really want to see Dorn. He’s the one guy that feels like he could be a starter or starter quality. I want to see Ristic too, i think he can contribute. Jasai Miles hasn’t impressed me yet, but I think he has more to show.

  7. Pam’s legacy: To be honest, IU wasn’t an academic juggernaut before Pam took over. The acceptance rate was over 75%. That doesn’t mean IU didn’t have good programs, but no one was mistaking it for Harvard. Sports are the window through which the public views a university. A top football program (with the coming facility renovations, to stay on topic) will outweigh any academic controversies for the vast majority of people. If Coach Devries can turn things around too? May have to start Pam’s statue, or at least name a Mother Bears pizza after her.

  9. You're driving yourself crazy focusing on early exhibition play and simply ignoring his demonstrated DI history of outstanding 3-point shooting on high volume. You have every right to drive yourself crazy, but doing so ignoring what the guy has done consistently as a shooter? No idea why, but have at it.

  10. He made a couple of truly next level passes. A good sign for sure. Not a good sign? He needs to get into the nutrition program and weight room asap. Finally, one more good sign? He moves fluidly, looked like he was having a great time out there - smiling and enthusiastic, and had no trouble getting up and down the court. I was kinda intrigued by what I saw.

  14. It's a combination of a lot of things that helped UF to get positive momentum. IMO many of these things could be applied to IU: Football in a real way helped make it far more famous. The population of the state has grown so, so much, which has made admission for in-state students far more competitive. As you said, Bright Futures makes it incredibly cost effective. Full disclosure; my kid is a sophomore at UF Honors. He/we turned down auto-admission to Kelley Honors and some very good Northeast Schools for UF because, well, UF is actually paying him to go there. Yes, after he pays tuition, room, and board, he is coming out about $2,000 ahead each year he stays. That is compared to Kelley/IU out of state for about $15k for room and board and some Northeast schools for over $80k annually. The weather + Gainesville, which is a very Bloomington-like campus and is attractive to out-of-staters. And finally (and very importantly) perception = and creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. The perception that UF is now a destination school makes the best students nationwide want to apply. And the more they apply the harder it is to get into, which further contributes to the perception that it's a destination school. The State of Florida is certainly not 'all-that' academically at other levels; there are still massive swaths of crappy school districts and relatively cheap but lower end state and private colleges. But UF has raised into the top-25-ish range, right there with the Michigan, UVA, NYU, UCLA class of schools, and UCF, all 60,000 students has gone from an anyone gets in school to a top 125 school with a 45% acceptance rate.

  18. Every now and then we have a ‘first game as a young Hoosier’ moment where it is exceedingly obvious that we’ve got a special player. I remember it with Vic’s first exhibition. Trent Sisley is that; a really really special young Hoosier basketball player. He is so friggin buttoned up. He’s gonna play right away, and he is going to succeed right away.

  23. Apparently he will actually only have 2 years of eligibility. Not really sure why G League years would count against eligibility but junior college years don’t. But the pretzel logic of this stuff now is pretty incomprehensible. That’s why I’m continuing to advocate for age rather than years. Much simpler. Play all the ball you can until you’re 24. When you’re 25 you’re done.

In Cig's presser today, he said his new contract came together in less than 48 hours. Scott walked in his office Tuesday and said we want to do this with your contract, can we talk with your rep? Cig basically said sounds good. That was it. It's pretty clear the alignment and groundwork needed was already in place such that both sides were comfortable -- no big list of demands or a drawn out negotiation. Excellent work from Scott and IU in my opinion.

  30. At Sam Houston State where he was THE volume shooter on the team? He shot that % on some meh quality looks no doubt. To show that I’m not all sunshine, for me Lamar appears to be an elite shooter that also has the highest potential to get lost on defense. i’m guessing that if it’s the end of the game and we need one stop on the defensive end, our five players are Conerway, Enright, and Alexis for sure, and two of Tucker, Bailey, and Sisley.

  32. Iirc, he started really slow in one of the Caribbean exhibition games. From there it’s been shot selection. He’s taken a couple of really deep 3’s. A couple stupid shots will throw off a small sample size. Assuming the staff reigns in some of those ridiculous heat check type shots for non-exhibition/non-cupcake games and I’d say he probably gets to upper 30’s or low 40% from 3 on high volume which is about what you’d expect for a good high volume 3pt shooter in the B1G. I’m more worried about defense and being able to score when the deep ball isn’t falling with this group.

  38. I don't know this for certain, but this one may not be on IU. I'm not sure who's in charge of ticketing for the event, so they may be waiting on seats to get distributed just like everyone that bought them. Overall though, yeah. We struggle heavily in some fan satisfaction common sense/courtesy areas.

So, JMU is 6-1 this season with a loss to Louisville. They beat ODU 63-27. Think their coach, Bob Chesney gets some looks? His overall record is 126-51 as a HC at Salve Regina, Assumption, Holy Cross. He’s 48 and got his first HC position in 2010 with 9 years of position coaching prior to that. **5 Patriot League championships

  41. She is easily the best for sports in decades and the reason IU is thriving there across the board. Let's make sure, though, we separate this from her performance on the academic side, which has been full of controversy. Whether you agree with her or not, her tenure in Bloomington has been far from smooth. If sports are your main thing of importance, then she absolutely deserves an A. If you care about the academic side as well, her legacy is much more complicated.

Re. Wyatt. It didn’t sound like Cig completely shut the door for a return this season. Big Ten championship game is 7 weeks away. He walked off on his own power. I wouldn’t completely rule out a return for PU, BT champ game if we make it there. Here’s hoping for a speedy recovery.

  48. Yep agree. Mine was "lower corner". I imagine both of ours means we're in the 100s which should be solid at the UC, but I'll be pretty upset if we somehow get sent somewhere else. I'll be curious to see what happens after they're distributed, but for now decent seats are pretty expensive on secondary markets.
