  2. And unlike with RMK, in my mind that might actually be a good thing. His level of importance to IU is greatly inflated in his own mind.

I personally couldn't care less if he ever gets over it or not. I'm not old enough to remember him as a player so my only impressions of him are from his time as the coach. Needless to say, they are not positive impressions. So whether an arrogant, thin-skinned, unlikeable guy who should have never been hired in the first place and got a year longer than warranted gets over getting fired for the half-assed, low effort job he did gets over it or not doesn't matter to me at all.

  4. 100%. A kid like this is a perfect 13th scholly. Would love to see one like him every year. If they hit you stole a kid and if they don’t you move on to the next one and the kid moves on to find his level. Love it.

  6. Agree -- I've seen a lot of great players at IU, Cal, Henderson, May et al, but Isaiah was just incredible -- and he went on to be one of the best point guards to have played in the NBA. Some of those guys are close in my mind, but IT? What an amazing guard.

Woodson was a very good college player. Very smooth. That 1980 team had the pieces to contend for a national championship. Injuries to Wittman and Woodson derailed the season. It's probably true for a lot of programs, but IU has been positioned to make a run several times only to have key injuries take them out. I. Thomas, to me, is the best player I have ever seen at IU..

I mean, is he really? Don't know him personally and I'm not saying he is a bad guy, but does a good guy surround himself with yes men and fire those that dare disagree? Does a good guy mock a large portion of the fan base? Does a good guy doing a half assed job proclaim himself "King of Indiana?" Does a good guy collect million yet refuse to go out and do his job on the recruiting trail? From afar he looks more like an entitled lazy @$$ with a fragile ego, not a horrible human, but far from a good guy.

I remember Big George very well. The high school state finals game between Washington and Marion, both undefeated, was one of the best high school games I ever saw. I just wish he could have played at least one year under CBK. McGinnis was an athletic specimen who was way ahead of his time.

Woodson graduated in 1980 which is 45 years ago. I turn 48 next month and, while I was alive while Woodson was at IU, I was too young to remember him. Even someone born in 1975 (50 years old this year) would have been only 5 when he graduated and highly unlikely to remember him at all. If they did remember him, it would likely just be vague impressions.

  19. Maybe he’s a nice guy in his personal life (as long as you’re completely subservient to him), but the Mike Woodson we had the displeasure of experiencing the past four years is a petty, lazy, insecure narcissist.

I remember the first rumor of Mike Woodson being hired as the head coach, I knew right away it would be a huge mistake for the basketball program. Here we are, six wasted years and a huge buy-out paid out. Woodson couldn’t land an NBA head job with his enormous wealth of NBA assistant experience. In fact, he was out of the league for a couple season in 2018. The hire was a panic move and to appease the older fan base. There is a fresh air in the basketball offices now, even down to the athletic trainer and strength coach. Darian has the resources to succeed, I’m anticipating Darian having a great career at Indiana than Woodson did as a coach. Happy retirement Coach Woodson, enjoy Sacramento and the NBA life again!

Not old enough. I know the history but never saw him play. But for IT regardless, it was all skill, a 'little' guard who could destroy anyone. That's part of the equation for me.

  25. People warmed back up to Crean in part because Woodson was such a disaster/ahole. Woodson’s not changing his stripes in his late 60s. Maybe the old timers will warm back up to him, but he earned his reputation with the under 45 crowd during his coaching tenure. I’d prefer for him (and Buckner) to never set foot within city limits again. (not calling anyone over 45 an “old timer,” just using that as a divider of people who would have no memories of Woodson as an IU player).

  26. Finally got around to watching a couple of games of Acimovic tonight. NFL exhibition games were tough to get away from(snark), but priorities are priorities. Couple of thoughts: Yeah, he has no chance to meaningfully help this year, his body’s just not ready, but his skill level and his mental processing were better than I expected from just clips. He’s got soft hands. He can make catches in traffic. His feet are ok. His problem is that he doesn’t sink his weight naturally and right now he really, really lacks lower body strength, so when he gets banged around he has trouble maintaining balance. But that’s not bad feet. When he has some space he moves them ok. He has a drop step/counter that he executes and in 1 game he caught the ball mid-post and inside pivoted, Jack Sikma-style, and made a 12 footer. That was cute. He also faced a kid up, jab stepped, put down 1 dribble right and put up a sort of jump hook that he missed, but it was a nice efficient move. So he’s got some stuff in the post. Also made 1 read in each game where he found cutters, 1 from the weak corner and 1 down the lane, that he timed and hit perfectly for layups. Very good reads. 1 thing for sure, he is not gonna be a rim runner. Just doesn’t run great. But he’s got a pretty stroke and he’ll be able to help in a full court game as a trail shooter. Fully expect him to be a really good shooter down the road. As he gets stronger and fitter I’ll be interested to see how his defense develops. Right now he’d be pretty much unplayable. He would just get out-leveraged in the post by any decent big, badly. He’s not switchable at this point, not because of his shear movement so much as he just doesn’t bend his knees so he struggles to change direction. But he can contest some at the rim and he has good timing. So if the athleticism comes the defense will probably hold up eventually. Last thing, he he got busted dead in the mouth by an elbow and he got straight in the kid’s face and didn’t back down an inch. That was nice to see because he doesn’t carry himself that way. He really is a textbook redshirt candidate. Like that plan a lot. He’s got a chance to be a pretty interesting piece by maybe year 2.

  28. We have the alumni base to make that happen. They just need to see sustained success and the rewards that come with it. If we can't do that with Cignetti, then it can't be done at Indiana.

  32. Fortunately, Scott seems to get "it" and I think he will likely figure out whatever we need to do to get around the clearinghouse. His track record is pretty good. He inherited a clueless athletic dept. Despite this, he was all over NIL when it started -- we were early on the collectives. He also 100% completely changed IU's entire institutional approach to football, which is very impressive given how many people he had to get on board. I'm personally not too worried about us getting NIL to our athletes. What I am focused on is our overall athletic dept revenue and closing the big gaps to many of our P2 peers, but that's a separate topic.

  33. In general I really recommend that Hysterics pod from today. They also get into the way that other programs will be cooking the books to overcome shortages from revenue sharing. Players will start some sort of a business. Something basic and easy. Nil investors are and will pay into the business and shortcut will be easy as pie. Hopefully Indiana will be cutting edge with this or else we will get lapped again if relying on revenue sharing only.

  34. Just so everyone knows…before this edit you were claiming Torvik has IU rated as the #117 team in the country and 17th in the B1G. Couldn’t be easier to get this right but Torvik actually has em #42, and 12th in conference. It’s within what I assume is margin of error of 9th Imagine being so blinded by your dislike of this roster/DDv that you actually believed they were #117 nationally with this much talent.

True but without Archie's stud recruit that was handed to Woodson on a silver platter I'm not sure he sees year 3. Would've been very interesting to know what Would've happened had TJD bolted right away.

  39. One word, Buckner. He is about the only reason Woodson was hired, and he damaged not only his reputation but that of Woodson's also. It is mind boggling how and why he was hired, but I really doubt if the full story and reason will ever be revealed outside of what has already has been hashed out in almost 2k pages already. It was fascinating reading though.

  41. Yep. Trying to appease fans without thinking about what matters. Winning. I don’t think Woody would have any different results no matter who were his assistants. He listened to who he wanted to listen to. Ultimately his system wasn’t a match for a successful college basketball program. Watching a huddle in-game was all the insight I needed to know how things went behind the scenes. I defended woody because I think at his core he’s a caring, good guy. The weight of the job and not being successful sent him searching for excuses, and in that he showed a side of himself that made me not want to defend him as a person. He and his PR slandered a many. Anyway, hopefully better for all now. Sent from my iPad using BtownBanners mobile app

  42. The added social media presence to support and promote Woodson was always the wildest experience to me. Felt like a CAA move to me. Chris Tucker in Assembly Hall as we lost yet another home game was another memory. Indiana did it’s best to support Woodson and pump him up. I don’t think Woodson ever understood the level of Maniacal work the winning coaching put into their programs. Probably the most shocking thing to me was Woodson lack of a scouting eye after all those years of ball. The number of misses on guards was about impossible to do with our resources.
