I doubt he needed a box to carry his belongings.  He probably just shoved a pack of gum and his phone charger in his pocket and strolled out.

A lot has been said about WVU's reaction to the hire, but Iowa thought they had him.  One guy on this podcast said they had the odds at -400 that he was going to Iowa, and they are blaming it basically on the lack of NIL they have there.  I would think that played a part in it along with the tradition and amount of support he will get to have in Bloomington as opposed to Iowa City.  They are looking to McCollum, and if they don't get him, I wonder who they can get.

I don't mind him and think he's a great guy but I know I'm in the minority. I think DDV just wants to bring his own dude with him.

My concern with McCollum is he hasn't had longer term success at the D1 level.  What he did D2 is impressive.  And this year at Drake certainly points him in the right direction.  But it's only one year.  No way is he ready to enter the chit show that has been IU basketball the past several years. 

Need a guy that can deal with rebuilding a dysfunctional roster (and can come in a recruit IU level players right away), a divided fan base, divided former players (with some "banned" from the program), the clownshow that is the Hysterics (and their fans), the politics to maintain a high level NIL, etc., etc.       

DeVries has is work cut out for him.  I'm 100% behind him.

My understanding was that he dragged his feet, whereas DeVries was enthusiastic about coming to Indiana from the jump and showed no reservations. I think he desperately wanted to be back in the Midwest, and the opportunity to coach somewhere like Indiana is incredibly rare and appealed to him. No one knows what the future may hold, and it's possible that a job of this caliber would never be available to him again. Some coaches can get pigeon-holed into certain jobs, like Chris Collins at Northwestern, and struggle to break out of that tier. He was smart to jump at the first big opportunity he could get. McCollum is a very good coach, but seemed to either A) doubt his ability to lead a program like Indiana, or B) just really loves Iowa and wants that job more.

Bottom line, we got the guy who wanted to be at Indiana more. That counts for more than many know.

I think you’re right and I think it’s wild that people want him gone or blame shooting struggles on Cliff. By all accounts he is incredibly well liked by the players and I don’t buy one bit that someone with a history as a trainer for professional athletes is somehow sabotaging our shooting. It’s asinine. Perpetuated by people who have never been in a college gym or lifted at the rate that a high level athlete does.

 

bet anything someone responds with “hes a football trainer”. Yeah you don’t get to the NFL without knowing your stuff. He’s not doing NFL workouts with our guys, promise.

They think coach DD and Tucker ran as good as grift on WVU as Woody and Buckner did on IU. I went down a wormhole on a Reels comment section showing DD’s announcement presser. If half of what they say is true we got ourselves a slimy coach…and they say IU fans are crazy.

This confirms Tucker faked injury, DeVries threw games, the inbound plays where bad, offense non-existent, and Colorado wasn’t as goood as Small

So he  threw games and still ended up 19-13, sounds great!  And Tucker DeVries underwent shoulder surgery for a fake injury so his dad could take another job that he was the backup plan for.

Be that as it may, strength coaches can also have a big impact on the overall culture of the program. So for those that thought we needed to clean house, then -- fairly or not -- that would include Cliff.
