To be clear, I wouldn’t call us or MSU overpaying. Pay to get the guys you need. With a talent like Sherrell, it could be a very high number. Who cares. He’s a stud

I think there is some truth to Izzo. Look at MSU's portal hauls the last few years. They aren't out signing bag chasing players. Izzo still heavily recruits and develops through the high school ranks. To my knowledge they've never really signed any elite or top heavy players out of the portal going on the last few years, they supplement and add complimentary pieces.. Doesn't mean he won't sign Sherrell, but if Sherrell takes his IU offer to MSU, then MSU's offer back to IU to counter to start a bidding war, I could easily see Izzo saying "screw this". He's still one of the few coaches very receptive to NIL.

At the same time he just saw his hated in-state rival win a national championship 2 years after getting a new coach.

Izzo knows his window is closing. He wants another title before he hangs it up.

Pressure is on.

No doom here just trying to be realistic.  If Sherrell is just chasing a bag, we may be the choice.  If he wants to get to the league, he may want to go to MSU since Izzo can sell that.  Izzo is an excellent recruiter so I never like to underestimate him.  There's still Duke that could offer a bag to get him.  

We got him on campus and gave him our best shot $$ and pitch.  Hopefully it's enough.  I do think we need to move on the next plans or we will end up with Reed Bailey 2.0 again if we wait too long for an answer.

Is this center supposed to play right away. Does Sherrell want to be a 4 vs a 5?  Both would have an impact here

We can always go back to Olsen and offer 2 million to start at the 4.

Mustaf - looks like an athleticism upgrade, but his offensive numbers are a bit rough. Hopefully he's a plus defender and a good cutter?

So far a no hitter. Just kidding I believe we are going to get better talent this year. I know most of us old timers wish we could roll back the clock on IU basketball. I don’t like where college basketball has gone. But in some ways it may have leveled the playing field. We all know a lot of colleges used to pay under the table . I believe those schools will have a more difficult time getting the best of the best year in year out. Bottom line I am still basting in the sun on our national title in football.
