I came here to discuss the process and mindset within the University on matters such as this, and the “Fire Woodson” crowd didn’t care for that. The mistake I made was suggesting their reactions were emotional, which elicited an extremely emotional response from the unemotional and rational posters whom I called “emotional”.

The "Fire Woodson crowd" is every single IU fan I know. Even my Purdue and UK friends are feeling bad for IUBB fans. All time low, Clown - of course we're emotional. This **** is embarrassing

Woody is gone, the admin isn't gonna make the call today so I'm not wasting anymore time on it.

In my opinion we should all be able to agree Dusty is number one. I've been doing laps for him on here for a year, you can check my posts about his record at FAU. I was told he was unproven, but I am glad Coach Cignetti has ended the debate once and for all. If you are a good coach, you are a good coach. If you are going to bring up Archie's record, you might as well save the characters and just say you don't know ball.

Dusty is the energetic program leader that Pat Kelsey is with the X and O proficiency of Mark Pope. MAKE HIM SAY NO. He is the best option. Young, energetic, modern. He is not only being considered because he is "in the family" like Woodson, instead his connection to IU is maybe the only reason he would take a call from any other school. His buyout is incredibly low, but those conversations need to be backchannelled right now so he doesn’t take the raise that will be offered as soon as UM senses us sniffing around. My impression is that he would take the call. It’s a unique opportunity for IU and I hope they don’t screw it up and that the door isn't closed.

Some of the other names here don’t really make sense

  • Pearl isn't leaving, would be expensive and I don’t like him anyway, but if he takes the call, sure.
  • I don’t want Beard because beating your gf is a no-go for me, but I can promise you that is a non-starter for the admin, so we should stop wasting time on him. FYI, the cops dropped the case because the fiancé declined to cooperate, but the police report is jarring enough (did she fake the bite marks?). It speaks poorly on many of you to carry water for this man as the role model for our players.
  • Stevens isn't going to come but sure send a call out, fun to dream about though
  • Oats wants to go midwest apparently, not my favorite coach and would be uber uber expensive but would no doubt be good

Other options are:

  • McCollum. I don’t want to hear about "unproven" anymore. If anyone compares someone to Archie I might melt down. If you can coach you can coach. There have been strong rumors that McC is an ******* and that stopped him from reaching D1 until now but if he wins who cares.
  • Luke Murray: Hurley sucked without him, his offense is a dream, and Bill would come to our games! Obviously any asst. is a risk though.
  • Shrewsberry/Shertz: TOUGH sell to the fanbase, I get it. But you have to understand that Shrews has built a roster without the portal, the old fashioned way and his best player missed half their games so far. I promise they will round into form. Probably not quite good enough for IU though. Same thing with Shertz. Great coach but probably not flashy enough in year one at SLU.

Dusty checks literally every box. Get it done or regret that we didn't for the next 25 years.

Do people really think he'd leave Michigan after a single year? I don't.

Yeah he has a connection here but if you ask me - he would not have taken the Michigan job, a job in conference, only to bolt for IU that quickly. He would've waited for IU to open up.

This isn't Lane Kiffin we're talkin' about here.

I think there is another way to get to Brad and I think Scott is using it genuinely. Tracy will play a big part but not the whole part

The concerns with guys like May and McCollum have very little to do with X's and O's.

It's a good question and one no one really knows. What we do know is that he put the buyout low for his first season in his contract negotiations and Louisville said no, Michigan said yes. Why did he do that?

Why was he in Bloomington after the final four last year? To see old family and friends? To talk to Dolson and be told that Scott's hands are tied this year but he's retiring Mike after the 25 season? I don't know

I did not know those two things I bolded.

Very interesting, indeed.

Screen names are usually not meant to be taken literally chief. He’s not claiming to be a doctor and I’m not actually an IU Home Jersey btw

And maybe, just maybe, she's neither "Kathy" or "with a C". :D

You aren't guaranteed anything in this business. It's hard to turn down a B1G job with no guarantee the IU job comes open, or that they ever call you. I think the fact that UM, OSU, and L'Ville were his options shows that he wanted to get back to the midwest. From what I've heard about him I think he takes IU's call. But he may feel that he owes UM and his players more than one year. Best realistic option though.

The buyout situation with his contract is really intriguing in all of this.  If he is not at least thinking about another job there is no reason to want that buy out so low.  And you can darn bet the school did not want that buy out that low for year 1.   We are all jumping back on this crazy coach carousel again!   Away we go!

I’m not missing the point but I definitely am not convinced we have our “Diebler” at the ready. Since you seemingly are, who should we retain as the interim coach?

Why in the world do we need our Diebler?  We are not looking for an interim to then become our head coach.  Finding an interim is not the goal but taking Woody and the team our of the crosshairs of a fanbase that has given up on them.  It is an ugly look for IU when the fans boo and we do not want any more reasons to scare the next coach away.
