My wife grew up in rural Oklahoma in the late 80’s, where high school football players are gods and untouchable. Her high school even produced a heisman winner. But the culture around it and her community was toxic. That culture turned her off not only from football, but from sports until recently. I’ve always been a sports fan, and it’s really been my thing. But, it’s now our thing, and I love it. It started with Teri and IUWBB. She loved watching her coach during the games, and listening to her post games interviews and her approach to coaching and leadership. And now, it’s the same with football. She loves coach Cig not for the fact that we are winning, which is a plus of course, but for the leadership and culture that he is building. She now sends me Cig interviews. We talk about his perspective to leadership and development and how we can employ it in our approach to teaching and working with our students as faculty at IU. And, we now plan our Saturday’s around every game :)

Now if we only had a men's BB coach that she could admire... #sigh

Can anybody even remotely tell me a more successful coaching turnaround?   Coach has already matched our win total for the last 3 seasons combined.  And doubled our conference wins from that time span.

I’ve been racking my head trying to think of a comparable analogue to this.  And I can’t.

Think of all the restless fans of other programs who will be unhappy with how their coach's first season is going and point to what Cignetti has done here. We're setting a standard that will be just about impossible to replicate.

We're probably also going to prompt Purdue to fire Walters pretty soon, which annoys me not only because I like Purdue being awful way more than them being good, but because I was hoping they'd make the mistake we've made many times of thinking just giving a bad coach more time will fix things.

Can Dolson just hand him one of those an oversized checks at halftime of the Purdue game

He needed to do it after Nebraska. I'm confident in saying that if Cig leaves it won't be because we wouldn't offer him enough $. And that terrifies me.

I've always known the Purdumpsters to be really slow learners.  I bet they stay firm

I don’t think he will leave because we won’t offer him enough money but am worried he might be tempted by a traditional  power/80k+ stadium/football school/get in playoff with 2 losses/unlimited NIL type of place. Hope we don’t lose him.

The guy was an assistant coach for 15 years, he doesn't strike me as the gunslinger type, I say if the school offers him a competitive contract and promises to improve the facilities, add seats, and make the football program top notch....he would have no reason to leave! But Shanahan is probably gone at the end of the season! Just my opinion of course, I have no idea what Cignetti wants or maybe more importantly what Mrs. Cignetti wants!

He needs golden handcuffs. Expand the Rock. Make him a stakeholder. Something. This dude may win a ******* natty in his first year here. It’s not THAT far fetched.
