Many of us have basically mostly only known IU as a mediocre program. But we still believe in what it can and should be. It’s hard to imagine that lasts many more classes of students if this continues. Kids matriculating today haven’t had many reasons to cheer for IU basketball as kids. Agreed - there's no longer siting in front of a grainy TV watching channel 4 with the family (though the archaic interface of Peacock does feel similar - really in this day and age I can't rewind? Seriously. Sorry I digress). But I remember scrounging/begging/borrowing for tickets while in school - my son? He's definitely meh about it (sophomore at IU). OKHOOSIER 1

Like generational anchor important. Us RMK fans are getting long in the tooth - less and less fans remember even that 1991 team. We haven't had a coach since that's created a legacy. Crean a bit, I guess, but it was still too up and down and he needed a deeper run then sweet 16 to insure that imho. But the point being is - this feels like our time to make or break this brand to a certain degree. Very dramatic I know. I'm sure I felt this way the last 3 hires - but this time just seems heavier - do you all feel that way? I guess in the NIL age you don't have to wait 3 or 4 years to evaluate so you can 'fail fast' but can we afford to do that again? SD has got to be feeling this. It’s getting to be a long time since we were serious contenders — it’s really only been one time in the last 20 years, with most seasons being completely uncompetitive. I mean we have not been close to a good program for decades, often due to negligence, which makes it even more frustrating. All these bad years slowly chip away at interest in the team. If it doesn’t happen now with our top-5 NIL… will it ever happen? And football is now an alternative. Future years probably won’t be as special as last season, but we now have a seriously competent and competitive program that is 1,000x more fun to follow than our brutal bball program. Scott has a shot to get bball back on track, but if he doesn’t, I think football also takes away interest from bball and bball may not recover. Jet812, DSUMMITT and HoosierFan1994 3
Popular Post AKHoosier Posted February 20, 2025 Popular Post Posted February 20, 2025 What Dusty May has done at FAU and now Michigan is more impressive than what Stevens did at Butler. Don't get me wrong, I'll be ecstatic if we end up with Brad. My voice will become hoarse from all the enthusiastic yelling I'll do. It's just that Dusty took a total nothing FAU program, and used what resources he had to build a team that made the Final Four and another NCAAT appearance. FAU had nothing. No fan support. High school sized gym. No history. No tradition of winning. Butler had always been a solid program long before Stevens got there. The year before Stevens got to Butler, they went to the Sweet 16. In the prior 11 seasons before Stevens, Butler made the NCAAT 6 times, including 2 Sweet 16 appearances. Now compare that to what Dusty had to work with. In the prior 10 seasons before he arrived, the only postseason FAU had was an NIT berth in 2010-2011. FAU averaged 11.5 wins per season. Then under Dusty they average 21 wins per season. And oh by the way, he's taken over an 8-win UM team and now has them on track to win the B1G. IndianaSconnie90, raorIU, IUHoosierJoe and 12 others 15

Either from the NCAA/courts or IU? Everything else you said lines up with what I have seen and as I understand it but I don't recall seeing that it would be divided evenly by the team. That would certainly be the most equitable way of dividing the money but I'm not sure that's how it's going to be. I thought it was going to be similar to the way coach controlled NIL is right now - they get a bucket to divide as they see fit. In a way, this makes as much sense as distributing it equally. The starting QB will have a much larger impact than the DB who is 10th on the depth chart and hasn't played a single snap. The elimination of walk-ons is part of the way to more fairly compensate the players low on the depth charts, I'm not sure they'll all get the same amount of rev share. Of course, it could be there and I just missed it. I do remember reading that somewhere, and it was a source that I thought was credible, but at this point, I don't remember where it was... it could be incorrect info, and if so, I apologize.

However Michigan being THIS successful plays with the timing and emotions of this. I don’t necessarily want it but Tony Bennett would fit the timeline and description of what Dolson wants. He’s available to talk and plan now. I don’t think Tony Bennett gets enough consideration as an option. I think NIL was his biggest issue and Indiana would help immensely with that. Im not saying I want him or his style but I could see it as a VERY reasonable option for Dolson. It might just be an assumption that on my part that it wouldn't have to be divided equally. I guess we'll find out before too long. Lots of younger fans who haven't ever seen a good run are starting to find something else to do with their time. Scott knows all of this and I'm sure does feel the pressure.
