We just get a bad rap because we’ve done this so many times. UNC fans in my area are losing their minds over Hubie/plenty want him fired and he was ACC coach of the year last season. The NIL/transfer era giveth and taketh, and programs like KU and UNC are learning this isn’t 2012 where recruits magically wanna go to *checks notes* Lawrence Kansas. 
 

Bama and UGA are learning this now too in football. Whereas once they would stack 4/5 star talent on the three deep, and hoarding it away from other schools, now they can’t.

May's answer yesterday was almost an admission of interest/yearning.

Reporter: Any interest in the IU job?

Dusty: It's flattering, it's crazy, I love being at UM, this place is my foundation, but I'm happy at Mich.

Reporter: Is there anything you can say to Mich fans that are worried?

Dusty: There is nothing I can say, hasn't crossed my mind other than what friends and family have said.

The bar there is insane. Legitimately unreasonable. But it won’t be shocking if Self pulls the plug soon. Go play with the grandkids. Maybe after next year, something like that. Dude’s in his 60’s, rich, done everything he can do. And heart stuff is not nothin’. And he might not be Jay Wright great on tv, but he’d be really good. Not hard to see.

We know Brad was Dolson's top choice last time. If, and that's still a big IF, Dolson does truly have his guy in the fold, then I'd be shocked if it wasn't Stevens. I doubt Jerry'd have said, twice, "it's all happening" in reference to Dusty or Mick.

Add to this the fact Trilly said he hadn't heard any buzz with IU doing backchannelling to college coaches, which is consistent with targeting an NBA guy.

To be clear, I'm not saying I think it is Brad. Just that he's the only plausible candidate if our guy is already in the bag.

Other than Beard, I do think it’s interesting that we aren’t getting any early rumors from the big sites about people we’ve reached out to or who have some legs. Unless trilly or peegs have said otherwise and I’ve missed it.

i know it’s been two days, but not sure how quickly mid season vs traditional hiring processes go. With a big national spotlight I just figured we would start hearing tons of “rumors” of some sort right out of the gate. Seems like we are only hearing Stevens stuff.

I think the Trilly piece is really interesting here, and probably confirms that there is one target right now and until that target says no, the search doesn’t shift. Part of me also wonders about the stuff Thamel said on Saturday. He made it pretty clear there was and would be a lot of interest in our job with the proven NIL. How hilarious would it be if Woody getting 5 million in roster money to fail got us a huge name lol

I think Scott likes having the Beard information out there even if it’s all coming from Beards agent and some friends who are former players. It lets him do his work behind the scenes without people paying attention.

Yep, especially as perhaps THE premier job opening (seems like Davis will get one more year at UNC).

Dusty will either get a nice raise or the IU job based on his careful answer. Beard can dance for the job if he wants, it’s not going to him. But I bet within a week there’s some new contract or extension discussions reported for a few guys with leverage.

I think you’re right. If we’ve got everyone in the know saying that Beard is ours if we want him, that’s not a bad floor for Scott to rest on while he reaches for much higher.

its like those movies where the hot girl tells everyone you’re cute and suddenly everyone else likes you even more. Except in this case our hot girl sometimes nips a little too much whisky and likes to be handsy so we won’t ever really date her.
