Fire Scott Dolson
IUHoosierJoe and 12 others reacted to Stuhoo for a topic
For me? No matter what section this topic is in, any discussion of the potential of firing Scott Dolson might be the most ridiculous take imaginable. Why? Cignetti Moren Aird Yeagley Fundraising Even if Devries doesn't succeed (I generally expect he will) the University is far more likely to build a statue for Dolson than ever remotely consider firing him. He has been a major success as AD IMO. I think that this thread should be buried, even after we occasionally lose a hoops game that we arguably shouldn't. But deleting a thread full of opinions that I disagree with is not my place, so carry on. I am glad it's now in the hoops forum, because that undoubtedly is where the fanbase's collective undies are most likely to get into an overreactive knot.13 points -

This thread is a microcosm of our massive issue as a fan base. Any other fan base would not even utter such a thought when they get elite football and understand that is the driver of athletics. We have far to many fans who have decided IU basketball is only team they can support and all others IU teams are irrelevant while others refuse to support any IU squad that is outside top-5. We will never sustain success anywhere with this attitude and will continue to have 3-5 yr up cycles across every sport followed by not sustaining winning. Its awful early to be down on DeVries already (although I get the frustration here). However, until our so-called fans decide IU sports is more than just men's basketball and it is OK to support good non-elite teams in other sports we will not sustain healthy success an an athletic department. Supporting the other 23 sports is a necessity (especially football) or no sport will succeed including men's basketball as everyone seems to want. To not sell out volleyball for NCAA Tournament in tiny stadium and have no interest in sport by many, losing thousands of season ticket holders over a 20-13 NCAA year in women's basketball, amongst other things will never lead to success here. Everyone is entitled to support what they want, but just realize that 'basketball is only important sport' attitude will never lead to success anywhere consistently at IU including in basketball. Just wait till we have our first 8 win football season next year and lose thousands of season ticket holders. If attitude doesn't change this will happen.6 points -

I don't want to pile on no matter how disrespectful his behavior was after the ceremony. He made some bad choices that he will have to live with. He obviously didn't have the kind of support system that Fernando had growing up. Hopefully he learns from this and becomes a better person. Pavia is very talented and has had a great season. From what I have seen from his mom, I'm not surprised that he acted the way he did. Maybe this will be an opportunity to learn and grow. I am so happy that Fernando is representing IU.5 points -

I feel like Dusty May is the only coach making the leap that truly had success from the get go. People forget that one of Kelsey’s big wins last season was the one against IU in the Bahamas, otherwise as people have pointed out they won games against KenPom sub 250 schools and in the ACC. This year Will Wade has no big noncon wins and was considered the best hire and new rosters, Ben McCollum got blasted by 30 to MSU and has no noncon wins to speak of (one of the easiest schedules of high major schools), Odom at UVa seems good but again no great wins, Sean Miller at Texas isn’t doing too great in year one, baby Pitino’s Xavier looks awful…I really think May’s success at Michigan has thrown people off—kinda like Cignetti in CFB. But major difference is May’s NIL budget is massive. Heck wouldn’t be surprised if he has more money to play with on a much smaller roster than Cig did his first year.5 points -

Yeah they went 18-2 in the ACC and got a 8 seed in the ncaa tourney. Of those 18 acc wins only 2 were against tourney quality teams and those were at home. Should of only been 1 because NC shouldn’t of made it5 points -
One thing that is important to remember about Kelsey at Louisville is that he benefitted massively from being in a very weak ACC last season. If Louisville was in the Big Ten last season they're probably not in the tournament and people are questioning Kelsey. It is what it is and nothing changes what really happened, but he did get really lucky with how bad the ACC was last year. DeVries unfortunately doesn't have that luxury.5 points

One would think. But I suspect that the decision as to whether we're spending on a high priced portal QB isn't a tough one at all. Cig, Shanahan, and Whitmer have seen Alberto every day for two years; they already know whether he's the guy. If we spend big on a guy like Leavitt or Raiola there was never a doubt in the staff's mind that Alberto was not the guy.4 points

Kentucky has went to 10 of the last 11 NCAA tournaments and just went to the Sweet 16 and they’re crashing out in mid December because of a slow start. I fully believe the UK fanbase would have burned Rupp Arena to the ground at some point over the last 25 years if they dealt with the same stretch we’ve dealt with as fans. But then certain folks blame the fans… They’re close to getting their wish, though. Apathy is already largely here. The balcony is largely empty for all but the biggest of games these days. Generations raised on bad IU basketball won’t know any different, and they’ll continue to find other ways to entertain themselves. At least then the program won’t have to worry as much about pesky fan expectations….4 points -

I'm certainly not here to tell everyone how they should feel, but here are some facts that y'all might find interesting: As of December 14, 2025, we are currently #26 in the NET rankings with a record of 8-3. On December 14, 2024, Michigan, in Dusty May's first year, was #27 in the NET rankings with a record of 8-2, and Louisville, in Pat Kelsey's first year, was #58 in the NET rankings with a record of 6-5. I don't have any statistics on what percentage of those two fan bases thought their respective seasons were over.4 points -

Yes, Alberto is currently a RS FR. Competition is a staple for this staff. The other staple is production over potential. @Stuhoo already mentioned the staff has seen him every day for the last two years (not to mention, recruited him out of HS). They have also seen Tyler Cherry and Jacob Bell every day. Today, every QB in that room has a leg up (more experience with the system) on any transfer that comes in. Spending big on a transfer will tell the guys in the QB room all they need to know. Regardless, we'll find out soon enough. Also we'll more than likely see a 5 star recruit commit to IUFB in the very near future. In other words, the last two years of bringing in a transfer were a necessity to fill a hole but building a foundation is preferred. Coach Cig has said this on multiple occasions.3 points -

If anyone thought Kadlecova was in the future plans, they were sorely mistaken. Maya has already been better than Kadlecova ever was since moving into lineup. Wonder if losing her playing time to Maya caused her to be a locker room problem (just speculating and have no inside info) and Moren wanted it rooted out very quickly after last yr. The fact that she is going to play 'professional basketball' tells me she probably thought she was better than she is and deserved more playing time and told Moren to 'play her more or I want off team' if I read between lines. Totally speculating though.3 points -

The Sorsby possibility doesn’t do much for me. But DJ Lagway in the portal. THAT has my attention. His situation in Florida has been brutal. But he’s 6’3” 225lbs and a dual threat QB. He was a top 10 recruit out of HS a the #1 dual threat recruit. With Cig and our offense he could be the Mendoza reprise next year.3 points -

Kind of odd to bring this thread up on a day where our QB won the Heisman trophy and our football team is the 1 seed in the CFP. He saw what Cignetti could be as a HC and what he could do for this program. Also to do this after 11 games of the basketball tenure is ridiculous3 points

Indiana was up 58-26 at halftime vs Penn State. If you think that brand of basketball was awful, you just don't enjoy modern basketball. Which is fine, your choice. There are probably some videos of 1970s basketball on YouTube that would be more your speed.2 points -
