  1. Yup. Despite ISU being a FCS foe, we beat them so badly we moved up another 6 spots in ESPN FPI. Beatdowns = great metrics.

Have a feeling not many Vol fans are crying over losing Nico to UCLA.

  4. It's also kind of hilarious/frustrating that we have fans who still haven't caught on that a score like tonight is the way of the world now in college football when you want to go places. IU Facebook posts were full of comments from (maybe) fans saying things like "call off the dogs coach, we're too classy for this" and "this game doesn't help us in any way" etc.

  5. Cig scrubbed everything from last year. He wants all the attention and focus on this season. I think I remember someone saying that he ordered all the pictures in the hallway from last season taken down. That man's focus is like a laser beam.

  6. I still can’t wrap my mind around IU not having a single nod to the 2024 team going to the CFP inside the stadium bowl. Am I crazy? It’s insane to not have that plastered everywhere you look during a game right? Edit: the equipment staff has the CFP logo on one of their sideline trunks. At least they’re doing their part.

  8. I just checked out the Finebaummeter and saw that….. Unranked Georgia Tech beat Clemson so Georgia Tech will now be ranked. That means it was a good loss for Clemson which makes LSU’s win over Clemson even more impressive which should move LSU up to number 1 in the country.

  16. Did you see the quality of that Tennessee loss? They’ll easily kick Illinois out of the top-10 regardless of how bad they beat WMU.

  17. I’ll agree or disagree with you after the Illinois game. At this point I kind of think I know what we have but it’s hard to be sure because of who we have played. Can’t wait for Saturday night !!!

  19. https://x.com/pointmadebball/status/1966534525791482008 Muurinen doing Muurinen things. This isn’t Ristic playing U19, Jokic and Doncic played this event. Watched parts of a couple of those games and a couple of AZ Compass games from last year. That kid has legit #1 overall pick talent level. Been thinking a lot about Muurinen vs Allmond lately. Really interesting philosophical question. Really like Allmond. He’s gonna be a very good multi-year college player. Top 2 option eventually. Also seems like a good teammate and a good kid. Winning player. But Muurinen, wow, the stuff he can do. But he’s a 1 year kid and that’s it and do you like where you are enough to take a 1 and done lottery talent over a multi-year foundational piece? 1 other thing on Muurinen, that kid’s an a$$hole. He spends all game, every game, running his mouth. And not just at the opposition, teammates, coaches, refs, name it. He said something to 1 of his teammates in 1 of the Finland games and if that was practice that guy would’ve punched him. He was not happy. But most guys seemed to ignore it so maybe it’s not a big deal. Doubt it matters ‘cause they aren’t gonna have their choice and I’m sure they’d be happy with either, but it is a fun thought experiment. I’d be inclined to prefer Allmond, but, man, if Muurinen goes somewhere and gives them 18/8 and they make an Elite 8 run or something, yeesh.

  21. I understand/somewhat agree with not wanting to schedule FCS games, and this might be a homer take (both ways), but that ISU team isn’t awful by FCS standards. I’ve watched their first two games and they would beat the WIU team we slaughtered similarly in 2024 by 40 points. The FCS teams that most of the SEC schools will play in November will be miles worse than the ISU team we just destroyed too. Cig had the squad about as locked in last night as I’ve seen since he got here and if they come out like that next weekend they’ll handle Illinois.

  32. Loving listening to this. How many times has USPS said through the years, “Just hire a professional college basketball coach and the guy WILL succeed here.” Whenever you listen to DDV he’s just a straight up, no frills guy with a vision. Kind of feels like a Rick Barnes sort of you-ain’t-ever-losing-‘cause-of-coaching situation and with the available resources here that has a chance to be consistently really good. Very happy.

  33. I’m really kind of sick over this. I’ve attended Hoosier Hysteria dating back to Midnight Madness. I went with my grandparents, then parents, to taking my own kids. As someone above said, any chance to get in The Hall is welcomed, and was an event that gave everyone a chance to at least be there and see the team. Sad.

  35. I thought it was being said that UCLA was going to be much better this season, I guess that was wrong. They're even worse than last season. I wish the game against them was sooner.

  36. Exactly the kind of kid (if you can call him a kid) that could instantly up IU into a punch you in the mouth EE - highlight reel type team that would springboard IU going forward. Would love to see that kind of legit smashmouth talent at IU again. Think junior Vic kind of highlights. Would be outstanding

  39. Perhaps. Football is such a different beast than basketball. It is really hard to take a non-conference loss (especially for a non-marquee team like IU) and remain in contention for the premier bowl games with only 11 or 12 games total on the schedule. Of course you want the necessary proving ground for your players to get ready for the big conference opponents, but you also want a situation in which you don't have to unveil the entire playbook before facing Illinois or Penn State. There's something to be said for facing fundamentally sound teams that you should be able to beat handily to give your players reps and experience in the flow of a game without threatening the whole season if you drop a game. It's still a sport where prestige carries too much weight -- an Alabama, a Texas, an LSU can drop games and still be in the conversation, but if IU drops a non-conference game, they will be laughed out of the discussion. We’ll have games against three teams in the top 10, with two of those coming on the road against teams currently in the top 4. That’s plenty tough to prove worthiness, in my opinion.
    1 point
  40. I get that lots of teams do it, and when this game was scheduled IU was in “limp toward 6 wins anyway that we can” mode, but I’d like a little tougher non-conference games moving forward. This game is pointless.

  44. Rabjohns is saying that as far as he knows there will still be a scrimmage in Assembly Hall, just without all other HH stuff that has traditionally been a part of that.
    1 point
  45. Nah I would rather step foot I. Assembly Hall any chance I get. HH was a chance for many families to take their whole family into the building for free and take in the atmosphere when they might not have the financial means to take their family to an actual game. I will still take my family to a game but I have no interest in watching something outside on a Thursday night from 8-10 when I got to work the next morning and my kids have school in the morning. It’s a pass for me
