I could care less if we win the offseason. We have done that many times over this last decade and it has resulted in very little success.  Maybe I am overly optimistic, but I feel he will put a really competitive team out there next year.  We may just not have the 5 star types.

Too many people in this fanbase that only care about optics.  Nothing matters as long as we win on the court.  People not getting excited or worried about not getting recruits yet need to take a chill pill.

Well, so far these isn't really anything to be excited about apart from speculation. There haven't been any announcements since he's been hired. So no reason to be excited yet but also no reason to be writing him off, in my opinion. But you're free to feel however you want to feel.

Have any of the insiders heard about how the player meetings went? Obviously not well since none are coming back but I'm just curious if anything interesting happened. Thrown plants and the like. A poster on peegs is saying he heard Mgbako's went horribly.

No, he just said that's what he heard and he was asking Rabby about it, who dodged answering. That's why I'm curious if anyone here has heard about the meetings. To be clear, he said that it was horrible on the part of Mgbako, not CDD.

Quiet search.  Low key hire announcement with no fans.  Now quiet on staff hires and recruiting targets.  Seems to be a theme.  I kinda like it vs the hype approach.

As far as I can tell they’re hard at work and we just have to wait and see what happens.  Fingers crossed.

Seriously though, I’m holding off judgement until we build the roster. Then I’m holding off judgement again until he shows what he can do.

 

Basketball heads love it. I’m not sure it has a lot of juice. My fandom isn’t going anywhere else, so I’ll be here until it fails or not. However, I’m not sure we can handle another failed 4 year stretch. Brand is damaged right now, 4 years of mediocre basketball might cement us as a Football or Soccer school.

Just look at what the programs were before Devries got there and then see where he took them once he got there. Drake has like 9 20 win seasons and Devries had 6 of them. WVU win 9 games the year before and he won 19 in his first year.

From what I have read or heard I am more excited now than I was the day of the hire. He runs a modern offense and he actually runs an offense to get shooters good looks. He actually runs an offense with player movement and off ball screens. I am more excited for next year than I have been since 2016

No such thing as a long rebuild today. We’ll know a lot in the next year or two. 
 

If we crap out then get depressed because we’ll have a couple years of misery. But as far as next year we should compete.

I don’t think the fact that none may come back means the meetings didn’t go well. Other than Goode, I hope none come back. And if you mean not well from the players’ perspective, I don’t really care.

Why not? This is the first time I’ve felt excitement for IU basketball since March 2021, and honestly it feels great. We’ll see how the portal goes, but I view it as a great sign all our players left.

I was pretty optimistic about Sampson. That didn’t turn out great, although he was the best coach we’ve had since Knight. 
 

Crean made me feel very similar to how I feel now. 
 

Archie was the darling of the national media, so I was most optimistic about him, honestly. 
 

The Woody hire was deflating and signaled to me that this program didn’t have the prestige that we’ve always believed it had. Or that it’s been ran by people who are incapable of making productive hires. 
 

And to clarify….. I’m not s***ting in CDD. I don’t have any concerns about his systems or style. I just am having a hard time getting excited. I’m comparing him to the best coaches in our conference and I’m not 100% confident that he’s going to consistently have us beating these guys out.

I’m not dooming. I’m hoping for the best but I’m not allowing myself to have any lofty expectations. 

Very similar to the Cig hire. The excitement wasn’t there until it was evident that the team was competitive. 

I obviously want this hire to go well. I’m just not drinking the kool aid yet.
