WayneFleekHoosier Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 This was a better performance. All the things I was excited about with this roster we got see some tonight. Front court talent is just silly. I think this team will excel with a bit more free flowing style. LockdownD, coonhounds, lillurk and 1 other 4 Quote

Healthy, Newton is just flat better than Gunn, and not a little either. He would have absolutely been in rotation and helped this team. Well CJ Gunn is just flat out better than Tamar Bates. That’s enough for me. I feel like our first and second best players were better last year, but players 2-10 are all better this year. go iu bb, Hollywood Mike Miranda, OliviaPope40 and 8 others 11 Quote

Popular Post Stuhoo Posted November 4, 2023 Popular Post Posted November 4, 2023 Watching KelEl sprint down court this game is already an improvement over game one. Shows that he watched film and that the staff is holding him accountable. And the results showed—not because his sprints got him transition buckets, but because that attitude enabled everything to work. lillurk, MemphisHoosier, Redcamaro and 6 others 9 Quote

Home Jersey Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Just finished watching the replay... a lot to like, but taking it with a grain of salt based on the competition. That said Reneau looks like he's really dropped the baby fat. And the 3 point shot is looking good. He is going to stuff the stat sheet this year, I hope he can stay out of foul trouble. He is clearly making a conscious effort but... still room to grow there. I think he could really surprise a lot of people this year and get some B10 honors Gabe Cupps. Holy cow. Those lobbs. The bball IQ. 4 years of him? You have to like the possibilities with him as your PG! And this front court... so versatile. Definitely going to be kinks to iron out in the first half of the season but I trust the staff to figure out the right rotations etc. I'll say this... I haven't been very impressed with Mack at all based on what I've seen from him in the past. He's really gotta figure things out on defense ASAP because if he can stay on the court long enough to get into a good rhythm, I think he is going to be able to score an awful lot of points for us. Banks, to me, just looks like the spitting image of a young OG Anunoby out there. He obviously hasn't put it all together yet (OG didn't really while he was here tbh though he did improve a ton) and looked sort of rusty/out of sorts early. But once he got into the flow of the game toward the end he looked really good. He's got a nose for the ball, a really good offensive rebounder. I am slightly curious about if he will stay engaged as the year goes on and minutes get tougher to come by. I hope he keeps improving. Think he can definitely contribute this year. Right now though, I do prefer Walker/ Sparks/ Reneau/Ware. Think he could have a big role next year. Ware vs Edey is going to be a helluva matchup. I like Ware's game but it's going to be interesting to see how it goes in the B10. Little worried about him holding up injury wise. But I think he can really elevate this team's ceiling. He just has a special combination of size and skill. Gotta continue putting in the work. The 3 point and free throw shooting looked a lot better today. Gunn... I hope proves to be better than Bates, but jury is still out on that one IMO. Need a larger sample size. Right now our backcourt feels like "quality over quantity" lol. The front court is just deep and talented as hell. It won't always be pretty. But I think this is going to be a really fun season. hoosierbgh, hoosierfan6157, MemphisHoosier and 4 others 7 Quote
lillurk Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 1. Just exhibitions, but I’m pretty confident all ten guys we expect to make up the rotation can actually do positive things in high major hoops dependably. 2. Frontcourt shooting is going to make it hard for opponents to defend the rim. 3. IU can switch and/or X-out a lot defensively and thus dribble penetration is unlikely to be very effective from opponents. They’ll probably give up plenty of 3 attempts as a result (though they do a nice job of keeping them out of the corner). 4. Probably can’t take TOO much from TO% in exhibitions except to say: 12 TOs in 141 possessions is terrific. 5. I was a little worried that too much of this season’s outcome rested on how ready Cupps and Gunn were gonna be. Feeling pretty confident about that now. 6. Wish we’d gotten to see two games of Banks so far, but he continue to be a sneaky good offensive player by getting to the line. Like Gunn, if the shot is there — and I buy it in both cases! — they’re plus two way guys. 7. Currently a little concerned about defensive rebounding. 8. Walker looks like a better fit with this squad than I thought. Crafty and athletic enough to fit nicely with better scorers, good touch around the rim to maybe keep some bench units afloat if he needs to, better passer than I thought. Wonder how often he’ll guard down the defensive spectrum, as he seems like he could mark some big wings. thebigweave, hoosierbgh and Home Jersey 3 Quote

IUFootballHappyHappyJoyJoy Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Man, this article is pathetic. str8baller Posted November 4, 2023 Posted November 4, 2023 Cupps - I don’t follow recruiting so kudos to those who said he’d contribute right away. He’ll surely be in the rotation and probably the pg of the future. Of course the last guy I thought that about was Phinisee, so… MM - I’ll bet on him getting it figured out on D. Ware - Not worried about his motor or decision making. But it seems like he might have an aversion to contact. Welcome to the B1G. 3’s - 9 makes is good. Woody - He was never going to be the coach of the future so there’s not a lot of need to fret about any coaching shortcomings. He’s the right coach, at the right time and has already put his stamp on the program. With that said, if he gets this team rolling by tourney time it’ll be a testament to his coaching chops.
