Us storming the court in Crean’s second year after beating Minnesota was rock bottom for the program, and yes the expectation for this program and fanbase is it shouldn’t be a surprise for us to beat anybody at home. HOWEVER… I can’t imagine how much it probably sucks to be a college student these days. These kids have had a lot of joy and potential memories stripped from them these last few years because of Covid. Wear a face mask in class, if you’re even allowed to come to class at all? When I was at IU one of my classmates showed up drunk during Little 5 week, passed out in front of the teacher and broke his nose on the classroom floor. Then he got arrested in the bathroom after a janitor found him asleep on the toilet. For some of these kids they didn’t even see their classmates’ noses for over a year. Add this on top of many of them never had a senior prom, spent weeks quarantined in their dorms, lived in a shell of one of the best college towns in the country, and may very well leave IU with a fraction of the memories most of us had when we were there. Let them eat cake, let them storm the court, and let them have some fun. They deserve it and then some. They’ll never get this time back. I’m not a big perspective type poster, but I think this one convinced me. I hope all the kids had a great night of partying and missing Friday morning classes if they were dumb enough to sign up for one. I’d love to be the program we were in the 70s-90s, but we’re not. I don’t care about the court so much as I hope we can build off this and it isn’t a one time fleeting flash of success like we got with Davis and Crean (and avoided with Archie). I think that's being kind as that's not how I would describe it. Fully expect the same starting 5 on Sunday, but I hope that we can get more fluid with the rotations when guys are playing well. Phin and Trey spent too long on the bench in the second half for my taste Stewart on Ivery is not a matchup that is ever going to work out any better than it did last night for Stewart. He gave the effort that's about all you can ask in that situation. There's nothing wrong with recognizing that. As for Kopp, he was a major part of Stefanovic having a terrible stat line. He made some good digs into the post on Edey as well. woodenshoemanHoosierfan, Blackmon_for_3 and Skrappy 2 1 Quote
Popular Post 94Bulldog Posted January 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 21, 2022 Something that I think has been overlooked, not only the importance of Rob playing to his potential, but this team learning to play and close out without TJD the last 2 games (sans tonight’s last 2 minutes). I think that raises everyone’s confidence. Great win for the team! Dave from Dayton, yogisballin, 8bucks and 7 others 10 Quote
Popular Post Five Prime Posted January 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 21, 2022 Another thing that I'm not sure had been stated - Coach Woodson is instilling a sense of pride back into the Hoosier basketball program. It's something that was somehow lost over the last decade of mediocre basketball. I'm talking about from a players perspective - understanding it's a privilege to play for Indiana and bringing your best every night. Ryno6284, hoosierbgh, Dave from Dayton and 5 others 8 Quote

Our bench outscored theirs 35-4 tonight. CMW stayed the course and kept developing his bench, even though several didn’t approve! It payed off big time tonight! Popular Post hoosierbgh Posted January 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 21, 2022 Props to Coach Woody for not giving up on Rob and Rob for not giving up on himself. Even more for Rob having the courage to demand the ball and Coach to call his number on the last two plays. If Rob can build on this game then this could very well be the turning point for the season and give even more weight to Woody's decision. Seeing Rob's smile and swagger in this game was worth the price of admission, the win was just a really nice bonus. X also deserves a ton of credit for last night. He single handedly kept IU in the game early. He kept his composure, played under control, and provided solid defense. Although his play has been frustrating at times, he competes, and competes more consistently than anyone else on the team, even including Galloway. IMO, I can live with the frustration as long as he continues to compete at the level he has been but I love the competitiveness combined with the control far more. Galloway, to me, epitomizes what IU basketball used to be all about and should be again. He wasn't the highest rated recruit nor will he be an NBA All Star but he competes, he plays smart, fills any role needed, and most importantly, lifts his team and teammates with his play. As the Assembly Call said last night, "Galloway is the type of player that has been missing from the IU side of this rivalry for so long." Race has been getting more and more credit but he probably still doesn't get as much credit as he deserves. His stats are often not gaudy but he is always a solid, steady leader for this team. He helped hold the team together last night without TJD and was the vocal captain IU needed on defense last night. This defense is not only for real, it is being played at such a high level at times that it completely dominates the games. It makes defense not only fun but is getting to the point it is must watch. Watching the Purdue players pee their panties on offense during stretches of the first half was definitely one of the highlights of the season so far. If last night didn't blow Miro Little away, then nothing IU could do would. I'm certain there will be letdowns to come yet this season but for one night, us older IU fans got a taste of IU basketball again and the younger ones got their first taste of what IU can and should be again. I, for one, have hope that their will be more nights like last night to come. BtownStrength, taco corp, HoosierHoopster and 12 others 15 Quote
Popular Post Brass Cannon Posted January 21, 2022 Popular Post Posted January 21, 2022 This game really sums up how important guards are in the college game. We lost our all American big and it didn’t doom us. And to boot Purdue didn’t use their bigs to devastating effect. GoIU8, bigrod, hoosierbgh and 5 others 8 Quote
