Was one of my biggest concerns when hiring him. He’s used to coaching / teaching the best players in the world. Recruiting is hard, especially in mens basketball. Even then, you’re not getting NBA talent at Indiana often. TJD is borderline NBA / G league for comparison.

Yeah, TJD won't be drafted.  He is doomed to play in Guam.  Those All American Players and First Team Big Ten go to pumping gas or selling insurance.  s/

(Borderline NBA...hah!  )

He is borderline NBA though… plenty of very good college players have games that don’t translate well to the NBA. Right now, that’s Trayce Jackson-Davis.

You can be a great college player and not an NBA player sir.

What’s Luka Garzan up to these days? ;) To be clear, I assume Luka or Luke, whatever is name is, is still in the G-League. TJD isn’t an NBA rotational player.

Yet—— but I don’t see it honestly. Even Yogi and Morgan are out of the league now. They were rotational players within the last two years!

I'm not despondent, but solidly disappointed. Eastern Michigan is not that good. Granted Farrakan couldn't miss for a stretch, but the IU offense is my concern. As we saw last year, everyone will double TJD...then what? He made a couple of nice passes to Race, that is a good start. You gotta punish teams for over-committing. SOMEONE has to consistently hit 3's, especially WIDE OPEN looks. My hope/guess was it would be Stewart and Kopp. Unfortunately last night Trey, Race & X were hoisting them up instead. It was the first game so won't read too much into it, I guess.

I did like that Woody said after the game that the whole staff knows TJD is going to get double-teamed, and it's our job to get him to find the open man. So it seems like they're going to start working on things like this.

Dang where did you come from, haven't seen you for a while. But of course, great minds think alike.

So then what is important about recruiting NBA players?  If you can be a great college player and not an NBA player...

My point was, it’s going to be a major adjustment for Woodson from coaching the best players in the world to players who more than likely won’t sniff an NBA rotation.

We are going to have to hit on recruiting like CTC did and maybe we can make some runs. But I’m just curious how well Woodson can perform with *WORSE* players. Off- Topic of course, we can discuss that at another time.

I was at the game last night. Compared to the s-show from the 2017 opener I went to, I'm just thankful they won. A few things:

1) Thought the crowd wasn't bad given the circumstances (6 eastern tip off, masks/pandemic could turn people away, and we've been awful the last 5 years.). Students showed up.

2) Woodson's calm demeanor surprised me. I'm sure he had a lot of emotions. Not saying that is a bad thing. I'm sure we will see him get fired up.

3) Not impressed with the offense. Listening to coach I'm not surprised. He warned us ahead of time. Defense wasn't bad. That guard for EM hit some tough shots.

4) Parker and Miller have to get more than 7 combined 3 point attempts. TJD was what we all expected. Race and Xavier were kind of how I envisioned. Rob, Jordan, and Tamar gave solid minutes off the bench. But if this team is going to be as good as everyone thought Parker and Miller have to be more involved. Would've rather seen them get the shots Phinisee and Thompson took.

5) Lander playing isn't a surprise to me. He didn't see a lot of action in the Bahamas. Woodson even said this is a learning year for him. I just hope he buys into what coach is selling.

The last 10 minutes was disappointing. That shouldn't happen. They had this game won. Keep your foot on the gas pedal. You can tell the energy level was gone after the 20 point lead. I think we will see a better effort against NIU.

Assembly Call guys said it best. They aren't going to go 4-24 every night. (IF they do we are in deep S**t) Let's say they went 7-24. Not great but that's 9 more points and this win looks a little better. The open looks were there. I think this will be around a 30-35% team from the 3 point line.

Last year's national average was 33.1%, so that would be just fine.

When we make between 6 and 10 out of 20-25 next game, that would be average, and is a very reasonable points per possession.

Sounds like the same talk as the last 4 years.  If if if if.  We need to stop living in these if situations.

We’re also not going to experience a hot streak like Farrakhan put on in the 2nd half every night. He was hitting contested shot after contested shot that he wasn’t making in the first half. Also, Eastern Michigan is a very well coached team who can recruit and attract transfers

I know everyone is gun shy but I’m not gonna freak out just yet. Let’s give it a couple of games.

I read on Peegs where Slick Leanord use to say you don't know anything about your team till 25% of the season has been played. So let's get through the holidays first.

It seems like someone always has a career night against IU
