VO5 Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Agree with others that this is for the Dickinson and Edey types of the BIG, as well as a good practice guy for TJD/Race/Duncomb to go against. I like that he’ll have 2 years because I think we’ll be without both TJD and Race after this year. He’s a lot bigger and a better rebounder/shot blocker than Brunk, so definitely an upgrade there. What I don’t get is what he sees personally as a fit here. He was playing starter minutes at USF and he’ll likely get 10 minutes tops here. Doesn’t make much sense to me but I’ll take him if he buys in Hardwood83 1 Quote

Popular Post AKHoosier Posted May 17, 2021 Popular Post Posted May 17, 2021 I love the pickup. Tired of seeing us not only trot out a 6'8" center at times, but also lose out on tweener types like Dawson Garcia, Keion Brooks, and Trey Kaufman who don't want to go to a school where they might possibly have to play the 5. Huge fan of all the new faces this off season. 323SGrant, Crimson and Cream, jk34 and 7 others 10 Quote

Honkyman Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 Durr looks to be a serviceable backup at center and if he develops a shooting touch a starter in his 2nd year at IU. woodenshoemanHoosierfan 1 Quote

The size is comparable but the skill set is almost a polar opposite: Brunk--clever scorer around the rim, has some big games and is a great rah-rah teammate, kinda soft post defender, lousy rebounder for his size and terrible FT shooter. Durr--see descrption of Brunk above and flip it to the exact opposite. Competent FT shooting from a post player, hallelujah!! He’s what we need against teams that can go big and based on last year it seems like he wants to develop a perimeter game too. Woodson loves versatile players. Quote

TJD doesn't do great with those type of players, plus why put him in needless foul trouble. I get the move from our perspective. I'm not sure I see it from his perspective. It appears his perspective is the opportunity to play for a historical basketball program with a big fanbase and an intense game feel. Also, he likes Woodson and knows that Woodson will be interested in his success post basketball. This all sounds great. Probably knows role is diminished, but who knows, play great and increase role. If Durr becomes a serviceable role player at IU for two years, his life will change. If he starts at USF for 4 years and then plays professional basketball overseas for 5-6 years - after that he is scrolling the classifieds for job postings like the rest of us. If he is a serviceable big man for IU for 2 years - the largest alumni base in the country will have his back. Quote

RaceToTheTop Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 He was a 9 and 8 guy last year in 26 minutes per game. The level of competition in the American conference shouldn't be mistaken for low D1.....Houston has turned into a contender for the NCAA title, Memphis may underachieve but has as much talent as anyone in the country, Wichita State is pretty much a yearly entrant in the dance, and while Cincinnati was down last year they are typically a bubble team. SMU and Temple have had their moments. FWIW, in the one game Durr played against Houston last year he went 14/7 and was 5 of 7 from the field. thebigweave, Stromboli, lillurk and 2 others 5 Quote
Trish Posted May 17, 2021 Author Posted May 17, 2021 I don't think he'll sniff the court unless we're facing a monster big guy in terms of size. TJD / JORDAN should be the main rotation at center. Quote

We have an NBA coach wanting to play an NBA style. Luke won't be ready, we have no idea about this new guy. Jordan and four guards around him that could shoot would be fun to watch imo. cthomas Posted May 17, 2021 Posted May 17, 2021 It's fun for us to speculate about where guys will play and what their role will be. I really think that CMW is going to push players out of their comfort zone and expand what they do. I expect to see a lot of growth take place as the year goes on. After a summer and fall of work, Durr may surprise us. He may also allow TJD to spend more time out of the paint to show off his expanded game. AND, if CMW has anything to say about it, TJD will have an expanded game. moyemayhem, Hutch89, thebigweave and 2 others 5 Quote
