It certainly does seem that if IU is going after Stevens that they are doing it much earlier than they did last go around.  Certainly is going to be time to pivot if it's not him.

Finally something we can thank Woodson for... if he hadn't forced the issue we may not be this far along...

Do you think it’s possible the main thing here with the silence and lack of firmer public ‘no’ is simply because Stevens hasn’t told Dolson no? If Dolson hasn’t been told no, there’s no reason to think he’s moved on to sitting coaches, hence, little to no agent noise leaking out to insiders.

I'm nowhere near an insider, but who knows... I will say that the lack of anything remotely concrete has to be a good sign for everyone involved... if loose lips sink ships, then tight lips makes the fanbase anxious... wanting to hear something vs having the faith that no news is good news is a tough place to be, am I right?

Of course Cathy would remind us that there's a process...

The one thing I don't understand is if everything worked out the way people say it did. On Feb 14 Brad said no thanks. Then wouldn't have Scott been on the phone with Dusty's agent that afternoon saying he has big money coming for your client as soon as the season is over since we all know he was the #2 choice. I don't care if his family loves Michigan or not, (don't believe it) we could have given him a much better raise than the 1 million he got with the extension.

His family, I heard was wanting him to move to Indiana if I remember correctly.

Same day Michigan presented Dusty with the extension

One thing I come back to is simply how weak of a denial it was. These guys know how words are perceived and how any statement would be interpreted with the IU job being open. The fact remains they could have really shut it down on the record. They had to know “not a candidate” wouldn’t kill the speculation completely.

Or, he’s so uninterested and cares so little they were essentially hand waving the possibility as absurd. Which is entirely possible, he is running the Boston Celtics after all lol.

Good point!

That might have been the case, seems like that is slanted a little from a trustee's side of things. But let's hope it is different this time. I do know that there were two main people on the list this time with others listed. But as I say I've been wrong before.

It’s not that he didn’t have a list in 2021 it was that he made little to no progress with that list. Fast forward to 2025, wasn’t May in that top 3? Now he’s signed a big extension and almost all but eliminated.

Again, if Stevens is his #1 and he gets him then it all works out. I have heard from a few people that he had done little work on backup plans 4 years ago and while not confirmed yet by any means, it appears little is being done again if you believe what is being said ie. No activity with agents

as we found 4 years ago, you have to have multiple people ready to say yes to be safe and avoid 4 years of misery, not just one

I’m usually not the kind of person to wish away time but really hoping the next month flies by. I don’t think anybody knows anything for certain. Easy enough to see how any candidate could theoretically be on the table. Don’t think we will know anything with any certainty until the announcement is made, just like the last football hire.

seems like signs are pointing to Drew and that would be sick

I don’t think anyone really knows on Drew yet. Trilly this morning saying he’d probably know a good amount about Drew with his connections but all he knows is that he hasn’t said no yet.

I’m not so sure this is true. They knew Archie would be fired with a lot of time to plan ahead. He was in contact with Stevens for quite some time before Stevens official no/masshole statements

Maybe option #1 isn't a sure thing, but option #2 is.

We can still give him that better raise. The agent could have said, look Scotty, for Dusty’s sake and to keep the noise down, we’re signing the extension. The good news is we kept the buyout manageable so you only have to come up with another $2.5M. Scott laughs and says, “that’s it? Done.” I think the extension was the smart move but inconsequential, if Dusty is interested in coming here.
