What? Cronin has won 69% of his conference games since joining UCLA. Finished 2nd, 4th, 2nd 1st, and 5th in the PAC 12. He’s made the sweet 16 three of the last four years. He hasn’t had a conference record under .500 since 2010. Even if you remove Crean’s first 3 seasons in their entirety, he won 58% of his conference games at IU. He missed the tournament twice in his last four years and went 20-14 and lost in the first round another year.

I feel like people are talking about a completely different person when they talk about Cronin… Maybe he’s a curmudgeon, but his resume stacks up with any other candidate out there.

I don’t think people are saying Crean was better, they just believe in the end Cronin’s results will be close to the same. Maybe we make the tournament a few more times over 5 years, maybe we compete for a B1G title one of those years. But in the end he is not a very exciting choice….after what this fanbase has been through a lot of fans want a big name coach that will put IU back in elite status! If they are really willing to pay $100M for Stevens there has to be a more exciting coach they can bring in than Cronin. Like I said, I would rather just see them take a shot at McCollum, who is in his early 40s and might just be a home run? If it’s Cronin I will support him and hope he makes me look foolish and puts up a couple of banners!

I think I’d hate a Collins hire less than I’d hate some of these other hires. He’s done a respectable job at a school with literally zero basketball history. Had never made the NCAA tournament before Collins got there. I think a lot of “imagine what he could do with our resources” responses are copium with some of these candidates, but I think it actually fits with Collins. He’s a good coach. Northwestern plays in a high school gym and has a 7.2% acceptances rate. IU is in a different universe when it comes to recruiting opportunities.

When's the last time we beat NW?

I know beating IU is a low bar nowadays but a coach with the lack of resources Collins is saddled with, thats pretty impressive. Not advocating but we could do a lot worse.

Dating almost 20 years he won 3 conference championships, 3 sweet 16s and a final 4.  Like I said maybe if he didn't have a 10mil buyout and didn't have the personality and looks of a leprechaun.

To me he’s a dark horse if IU gets down the list a bit. NW has been to the tournament 3x IN ITS HISTORY and he was the coach each time. And they’ve won a game each time, always in a toss-up game (7/10 or 8/9).

There was a time I would’ve worried he’d leave for Duke but Scheyer seems in no danger of leaving (unless the nba comes calling eventually?). Not my favorite option but if it were him I absolutely think it could work.

Crean got fired because his lows were too low, not because his highs weren’t high enough. Cronin’s floor basically the past 15 years has been the NCAA tournament. We can’t talk about winning more banners until we’re a consistent tournament team. We’ve been there twice in the last nine years… We’re just not at all  in a position as a fanbase to turn our nose at someone with Cronin’s resume.

I agree…I think it is that $100M number being thrown around, if that is even close to being true, do you just go from that and Stevens says no, to Cronin? Throw those numbers at Wright, Donovan, Pearl, Self, and Drew, and then maybe Cronin. But again, if you are going to offer Cronin, why not go for McCollum who is 10 years younger and might be one of the great coaches of the future?

It's a 16mil buyout until April 1.

If it’s gonna be Cronin, I would rather take a chance on McCollum.
