Feb 26th due date for mr. Stevens to decide

So kinda like Groundhog Day at the end of the month...

Phil Conners: "Beantown Brad emerges to see his (potential) cash flow.. will there be an early Spring celebration by the IU faithful or 6 more years of bad basketball?"

He had a bunch at the bottom. I’m not looking them all up but the first team I saw was actually slower than Drake is this year.

Most of this board—myself included—couldn’t tell the difference between a 200th paced team and the 350th just by watching. You’d need the kenpom sheet in front of you. That goes for recruits too.  Watching good, efficient basketball is much more rewarding to me, at any pace, than watching teams push tempo just for tempos sake.

It’s nearly a non-factor. I’d take Jay Wright or Tony Bennett or a young Bo Ryan in a heartbeat. Those guys won a ton and put plenty of guys in the pros. Odds are high that our next hire won’t be as good as those guys.

I’m agnostic on McCollum since I haven’t seen Drake play. I’d prefer a more proven coach, though.

Agree. The 30 sec shot clock era combined with the number of 3pt shooters now has made pace of play pretty irrelevant. 55 possession games are slow games now, really slow, but late 80’s when it was 45 secs, Jesus, 45 possession games weren’t uncommon and it was pretty nasty, particularly if you were trying to scout some game that ended 48-45.

That's kinda' my thinking too.  If not Indiana, he'll be at Iowa.  But nobody has ever won at Iowa...last final four was 1980.  Indiana obviously a better long term job, so I'm hoping we at least kick the tires.

The Franimal is not going anywhere, someone else will poach him before that happens.

The piece of info that gives me hope is Scott is looking at adding a GM. That is something that we probably need anyway with NIL and the portal but it sounds like a request from say....an NBA guy.

My IU fandom has become skeptical. For me, I haven’t watched a single game for the last 7+ years where I thought with 100% certainty we’re going to win this. I’m allowing myself to get excited for IU basketball over the thought of getting Stevens. I’ve been let down so much worse. Let me feel this joy!!!

I feel you!  Hearing all the news and where there is smoke, there can be fire but I am cautiously optimistic because we’ve been here before and I don’t want to get my hopes up too high and then have the rug pulled out from under us at the last minute.  Until there is an official announcement, that’s pretty much whet I will stay parked.  One thing I do know for sure, Dolson has other options if Stevens decides to stay in Boston that are a far cry better than Mediocre Mike!!!

Why wouldn't an NBA GM/Executive (just won an NBA title) just want to do it himself? I mean wouldn't he feel more confident in himself than someone else?

I was wondering the same, other than just for additional help to take the load off of him. Maybe he has someone in mind already?

I agree but what I keep reading (just random posters on Trilly) is that Brad may not want to do the whole recruiting thing. A GM would help with that. IMO - Brad absolutely would need to be a part of recruiting.
