Really? Do you think he would even bother talking to us or anyone associated with IU?

He may take the call, but he isn't leaving. He was born in Oregon and has never lived anywhere but the NW. He's 62 and has only coached at Gonzaga, 10 years as assistant and 25 years as head coach. His lifestyle is deeply embedded in the NW. He can win 4 of 5 games every year at Gonzaga. The only job he's ever considered was Oregon, but turned that down. He's already named his successor at Gonzaga when he retires from there.

UK, UL, and UM all noticed this and didn’t consider him in their recent processes.  The Beard talk is tiresome.  UNC won’t look at him either, he presents that same problem for all these schools.

Shoot, Louisville and Kentucky passed on him.

Anyone arguing for Cronin and wondering why people wouldn't be thrilled.....go look at the poll. He is the 18th most favorable hire out of 20. Only ahead of Brownell and Shrews. So there's a reason most don't want to see him hired. I'd support him and think he'd do "fine" but I think we all want more than "fine".

The bugger question is why? Of those 20 coaches, more than half aren't realistic candidates or candidates that would take the IU job and he's got a better resume than pretty much everybody else on the list.

Thanks for the info.

I wonder if Few is mentioned because he wants to put the heat on Gonzaga to increase their NIL or his contract. I think there will be a lot of movement on coaches using IU to possibly increase their own pay.

I also remember Cronin saying that the IU job was a dumpster fire, I can't see 4 more years of Woodson changing that outlook for him. Not sure why he is in discussions

There's an element of that every time a job comes open... one guy gets the new job... everyone else tries to get paid.

The meth in Indiana must be getting much more potent if you actually believe that IU is going to get Cronin with that buyout number. Not happening folks.

Could buy out Cronin, pay him $7mil/yr for 6 years, and still spend less than the reported offer out to Stevens.

Wild.

My one take away from this board and thread is that there is a love and passion for IU basketball.  We might not all agree on who the next coach will be, who is in the know, etc, but we all care and want IU to be a winning team again.  That is awesome to see and it is so much fun to speculate and read everyone's posts.  Go Hoosiers!

A universal suckup on your 18th post. Impressive! Not everyone can pull that off. I like the cut of your gib.

Seriously, that is the 1 thing that is indisputably true.

True if your supposition is true.

I read an article that said the big buyout for Cronin has a loophole that could negate it. The article didn't go into more specifics, but it was from a legit sports reporter, not some mama's basement Yardbarker type guy, last year when he was reportedly a candidate for the UL job.

FWIW at this point I would be more shocked if Brad isn’t the next coach than I would be if he is. Still a lot of ways to go but looking good. IU basketball is back!

That seems to be the common theme among the trusted insiders here.  I’m going to beat a dead horse with my comments on this situation.  IU and Stevens is just too much of a match not to happen.  I really think the dream pairing happens this time.
