The one he had at UCLA. I don't consider his FF team a championship team.

22-23, though, I do. That team was damn good and had some serious talent. 4 NBA guys and Tyger Campbell.

Wouldn’t that mean he could coach some then if he took a team from first 4 that wasn’t a final 4 contender and beat Izzo and then Oats and a good Michigan team to reach a final 4 and to lose to the Zags on a buzzer beater to reach the finals?   I get it there are better candidates out there however if that type of coach is your floor for hiring a coach then IU is going to be fine.   IU as a program needs a reboot.  Honestly I don’t care who that person is as long as they gain an identity and resemble a college basketball program again.

I'm going to pass on any coach that whines about travel schedule and openly talks crap about his players. Plus the 16+ million dollar buyout would not be worth it

Because RMK never did either right?

Not a proponent of Cronin, but when someone is winning things get "overlooked"...

no it's irrelevant some random list didn't list Beard.... please follow along.

Answer the question ... who's a better basketball coach Cronin or Beard?

Relax, you seem to be getting upset.

Not denying Beard is a very good coach, but you are the one that needs to ignore  key facets of being the leader of a basketball program to justify him as a candidate.  Not to mention some key donors, some of which who may be female , may not be copacetic with a drunk woman beater getting their money.

It's f'ing LA lol

Look how many Top 100 and Top 40 recruits they've had in the last 6 years.

Yep it’s LA and people have better things to do then go to ucla basketball games.   Not sure if their attendance has improved any since he got there but for a blue blood type program their attendance has been embarrassing in the past

wait what? No lol.. I don't seem that way at all. You've tried to poke at me and I haven't taken the bait.

Just talk ball.

To answer the question, finally, it's Beard.

If it’s not B.S. who has made himself an institution that would join the institution of IU, next D.M….. third choice….M.F. and S.A. as in Steve Alford is the coach.  Experience and NIL money (NIL money makes this at least a tie for the third best available hire).  Alford would wisely manage NIL money to make a championship team.  (I would not want Alford except I think he would be successful with NIL employment of players).
Alford has questionable past judgment and so do many others as many of them have a certain amount of scum baggery.

OK I agree. Some people keep saying MAY in the same sentence of bigname/homerun and I just do not agree. I do agree that Few, pearl, beard, drew are the big name hires.

May has as many FFs as Bruce Pearl and is twenty years younger. Someone is going to have to explain the love affair with Pearl to me.

Poke at you? What are you talking about? You're the one demanding I answer your narrowly focused question.

You choose to ignore everything not coaching that involved in being the leader of a basketball program, where Beard is a unmitigated disaster.

I don't.

Beard has zero, zilch, nada  chance at being IU's HC.

And that is a good thing.

From what I have gathered:

1. Few: have not heard anything on him- not sure why he would leave gonzaga

2. Pearl: he wanted the IU job last year, that ship has sailed- per his former player we happen to meet in Atlanta last year- if Auburn makes a run this year- he is retiring.

3. Beard: IU is not even entertaining him- I do not agree with this at all- typical IU BS. Trying to take the high road, it is time to win.

4. Drew: I posted yesterday that I was going to text someone in his wedding party who we are friends with: still waiting to hear back but our friend told us the wife is the key to the decision and she wanted no part of Kentucky. She doesn't like the limelight and is pretty involved with their church with that chip and joanna gains. If the wife is in we are good, she is the decision maker. but this seems like along shot.

Which brings me back to Stevens and MAY.

Yeah, I don't see any of those 4 coming, but the one with the smallest sliver of hope would be Few, just because Indiana has such an advantage with NIL over Gonzaga.  But even then; I don't really see him leaving.  At this point he feels like a Gonzaga lifer.

Yep, NIL has changed everything.

I think one other thing that has changed or hopefully, Scott is using is how Cig is treated after one winning season as a football coach. That dude can walk on water. Now go get someone who does that with basketball and we'll be praying to you on Sunday mornings

High level success at a place like Auburn. Sec has done of great job of pumping money into basketball so that’s helped however is results at Auburn are crazy when you look at them.   Auburn didn’t have much history before he arrived and since he has been there he has 5 seasons soon to be 6 where they have won 25 or mores games.  4 seasons soon to 5 where he has had single digits losses in a season.   Been to a final 4 and earned multiple protected seeds in the tourney (however did lose to Yale last year as a 2 seed) Danny Wolf turned out to be a pretty good player for Yale.  This year has a team that is easily the number 1 overall seed with 4 weeks to go.   Plus he beat the living dog crap out of Purdue this year

if he can get these results at Auburn what kind of results could he get at a blue blood type of school

Pearl was also fired in the middle of a season Tennessee was Top 5 plusssss... if what's his face doesn't go down 4-5 years ago, I think he wins a NC that year at Auburn. They were the best team in the tourney that year.

Motivational tactic, RMK did the same thing plenty. They're 8-1 since he called his team soft and on a 7 game winning streak.

Stuff like that works you know.

All it does is show that he's a ***** who can't deal with his players face to face, and I don't GAF what Knight did, would did, thought about doing, etc. His style wouldn't work today, didn't work near the end of his career. I'd never, ever set Knight as an example to my kids of how to act or motivate.
