They saw evidence of potential trouble and passed. He was subsequently fired with cause, and he didn’t fight that monetarily, by Texas. Sounds more like good “due diligence” rather than malpractice.

Agreed. If anything, IU passing on him because of off court issues, and then him getting arrested goes to show they were right to pass on him.

What? Like winning? Yes, our admin has proven to avoid winning coaches. 

We can't sit here and say for a fact (like some are saying right now) that they passed on Beard prior to the arrest bc they knew he was an alcoholic. Why would Texas have hired him?

I asked this yesterday. What exactly is it?  People have alluded to it.   Some said he has booze issues dating back before Texas Tech.   Genuinely curious.   Thanks!

It would be very surprising if UNC hired Beard.  They will have the same issues IU does.

UK looked at a lot of coaches last year and Beard’s name never really came up.  The issues aren’t unique to IU.

Beard lasted 42 games at Texas which probably isn’t the outcome Texas or Indiana would have wanted when hiring a new coach.  Passing on Beard 4 years ago was the farthest thing from “malpractice”.

Just to pile on here, the dental assistant where I go to the dentist here in Evansville has a cousin married to Dusty May, and my dentist is a very small time donor from what I can tell and went to IU Dental school with a son who was on the IU baseball team.  That being said, she didn't have any information from her cousin on any family plans to move back to the Bloomington area.  My dentist didn't have any information either as I asked him just before he shot me full of Novocain before the "small" cavity he was fixing.  I tried to find out some information for the group.
